    One of the best things I have ever done was to cancel my gym membership a few years ago. For the cost of a years membership, I bought a treadmill, an exercise bike, a yoga mat, and some dumbbells. I now exercise for free every day and don't have to go out in this cold, snowy weather! Also, no gas cost for the car to drive to the gym.

      I live in a small one bedroom apartment and must confess that my living room looks like a gym! But it does mean that exercise is hard to avoid.

    As a family of 6 we buy in bulk, drive older used vehicles, grow a large garden and live comfortably on one very modest income debt free. It can be done with hard work and sacrifice ❤

    A habit that saves our family is that we use a lot less if everything; about 1/4 of laundry soap, dish detergent, use bar soaps, short showers with just a small amount of shampoo, tiny pea size of toothpaste, no paper products (or a lot less than average). I counted how much we save on these micro habits (that are amazing for the environment, too!). About $50 - $100 / month. Addition &$50- $100 on utilities (use clothes, towels sheets for many days before they need washing) careful water, heating and electricity usage.
    Where the real savings happens is in not wasting food - we use everything! I buy everything from sales, clearance, liquidation sales etc. With all this we manage for about $150 - $200/ month for fam of three and a dog. Takes about 30-60 min / week to plan. And saving about $500 / month. These habits are so ingrained, I don't even think about them any more. Power of habits 💪

    I always have a $200 buffer in my checking, just in case. I also have a rule of not using any card payment (including debit) for things that don't last. For example, things like food, gas, shampoo, etc are all bought with physical cash. It definitely makes me more aware of how much I'm buying.

    Great video Jennifer. I save by 1. Making high quality coffee at home 2. Having a progress tracker for whatever goal I am working on 3. Knowing how much money I have in my purse at all times 4. Plugging appliances into power strips and flipping switching off when not in use to stop phantom energy 5. Having a DYI stuffed item at the bottom of outside doors to keep the cold out. 6. Making sure I know my banking polices on fees so not to get any extra charges. 7. Making not only every dollar matter but every cent matter. I made over $300 one year by not buying things under a dollar. Mostly it was the dollars stores but this last year they have went up or things on the clearance rack.

      I found a trick to peeling eggs that is the easiest method, and works every time. After your eggs have boiled (I do 12 mins), and chilled in an ice water bath, place one egg at a time in a small glass jar (like mustard or jam jars), put the lid on, and shake up and down 16 times; one (down) and (up) two (down) and (up) three (down) etc. The peel practically falls off the egg.

    All of my bills are on auto pay so I never have to worry about them being late. Always keep a $3,000 cushion in my checking account. I hang most of my laundry to dry near my heater vents or outside in warm weather, instead of using the clothes dryer. Except sheets and towels.

    Great tips. I have automated all of my bills and my savings, budget, meal plan, and shop monthly (I only get paid once a month). I also learned to make no-knead bread. I use cash for groceries/household and personal spending. When the money is gone- I am done spending for the month. After a while of being consistent, I eat better, waste less, spend less, and now have extra money at the end of the month that I can put toward other things.

      I use cloth towels, but I also buy paper towels and use them sparingly. If I'm handling raw meat, eggs, or oil I feel it's more sanitary than using towels or sponges. I can throw them out without risk of cross contamination or getting oil stains something else with an oily towel that needs to be washed.

    The NUMBER ONE way to save money is NOT to have credit cards!! We haven’t had them in YEARS and save on those awful yearly fees and the constant temptation to buy something on time. The need for ‘good credit’ is based on a debt driven society that has b come the biggest lie. There is always a way to get a newer/new car or buy a house without a high credit score. We bought our house with a year’s rent to own option that proved to the owner that we could carry the mortgage cost. I am a firm believer in what the Bible teaches and it tells us to owe to no man. I understand there are times when we must, like with unexpected medical costs and such, but my beef is specifically with the whole credit card industry.

    • @zuozhen4758
      @zuozhen4758 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I love credit cards because of the rewards they give. Cash back and bonus cash back! I easily get several hundreds of cash back bonuses every year. Think about it! That’s tax free money!

      On vacation used airline points and flew for free (and got a feee upgrade to first class). I guess it depends if planning our purchases and paying it immediately. It’s how people use them that can be problematic, but the convenience and security of using one has many positives in my book.

    • @Claire-Rita
      @Claire-Rita ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We use American Express (paid off every month), and the cash back is incredible! I paid our home insurance (with no additional fee - check that before paying for larger purchases with a cc) and got almost $50 cash back just from that. I also got a lower price on my policy because of our credit score. If you struggle with impulse buying and not being responsible with cc then maybe they aren't for you, but if you're smart with cc, they can save and or make you, lots of money!

    Yes, I think checking your bank account regularly. It’s a great idea. I use an app when I do laundry and I was able to catch that randomly it did three withdraws back to back for $50 which it never came on my credit and I called the bank right away. Usually to get money I have to do it manually and this time it just did it out automatically. I also called the company of the app and they say sometimes there’s possibilities that it can happen.😶 For my PG&E bill, what works best is to get it through email it’s paperless I find it better because sometimes the mail can get lost.😅

Not only are you fully informed when transactions occur but it’s a little way of keeping yourself honest. Kind of like popping a rubber band on your wrist.
