I live in Florida, so the heat, hurricanes, traffic, crazy drivers, etc. is worse here and the heat is not an issue. The biggest weather issue for me would be snow. Does southern SC ever get snow? What areas of southern SC are good to move to without the big city vibe, crime, etc? I'm an RN, so I was also wondering what nursing pay is like, so if there are any RN's reading this, please reply. Where I live in FL, my property taxes aren't high, but insurance, especially car insurance, is ridiculous. The cost of living in general is getting unaffordable now and I don't understand why so many people are moving here; okay, we have a great Governor now. If anyone moved to SC from FL, please reach out as well and tell me if there's a big difference. Don't worry locals, I am a Republican.

@@iluvutube4886 The upstate of SC sees more snow that us here in the midlands. It’s rare for us to get snow. Maybe once for a few hours every few years.

Also strongly considering moving to SC from Florida. If I can line up a relatively good paying job in Greenville my family and I are out of this place (central Florida). The “heat” up there would be a cakewalk compared to here and having 4 seasons again seems lovely.

Hi, we moved from NY to Florida, after a year we moved to McCormick SC and love it. It’s a very small quiet town with friendly people. We don’t get snow, but it does get hot, just not as hot as Florida, we have no trouble with the heat. Hospitals are in Greenwood (not Greenville) and Abbeville, both are about 25 minutes away. Best wishes

I’m an RN in Columbia. Pay is $32/hr starting for new grads, days, obviously if you have experience it will be more but I don’t know how much more yet.
Cost of living used to be great but obviously since Covid that has changed- loads of Northeasterners moved here and also surprisingly a lot of new ppl are from CA- so real estate went to the moon and wages did not keep up.
Otherwise Greenville is mountainous with slightly cooler temps, Columbia is a sweatbowl (seems like it’s 100 degrees all summer), and Charleston is Charleston. I like savannah way better. You gotta stay above I-20 to avoid the gators, basically.

Moved from S. Florida to Greer, SC 2 years ago. If you are from a very red location in Florida, are deeply religious, and are not inclusive of people that are different from you, you would probably be happy here. You made a comment speaking highly of DeSantis which makes me think that this applies to you. If DeSantis scares you and you don’t went to spend your free time disparaging people that are different than you, don’t move here. If it were not for my boyfriend, I would relocate out of SC asap.

I’m from S. Florida so I actually don’t find the traffic to be bad at all. Also, in comparison the homeless population is nothing here in SC. I haven’t encountered “rude” people. People are disingenuously polite . I guess it’s the southern charm. It wasn’t until I went on FB and joined some local groups that I discovered how much hate exists due all of the churches and religious dogma. I’m also tired of the locals complaining about the transplants, gays, and immigrants. 🙄

Young people leave SC because of weak job opportunities. The Legislature spends it's time investing in stupid corporate welfare schemes like the Scout Motors factory rather than investing that money in a comprehensive apprenticeship system or relaxing occupational licensing requirements so we can top off our super weak labor force participation rate. Corruption and crony capitalism are holding back this beautiful State, and she deserves better.

The schools are horrible, even though Lexington 1, Lexington 5, and Richland 3 think otherwise. Quite a few people don't have a college education. People are super conservative and religious, and unfortunately, they want you to be, too.

Here is my take. Unless you're absolutely certain about a multi- state move to a different region, make absolutely certain it aligns with your objectives and preferences. So, this also means being economically mobile with a profession and transferable skill sets. Moving far away from one's home territory and getting economically trapped is a recipe for a miserable existence.

I've lost many close friends who returned North, and every one of them moved because of wanting to be nearer to their kids and grandkids. Most of them moved after being widowed or developing health problems and needing more support from family. Before you move, you really need to consider the inevitability that one or the other will happen to you, and whether you could handle it alone.

Strongly considering a move from Orlando to Greenville. Originally from Chicago, after a decade here in Florida I’m tired of the constant heat. At first it was a nice change coming from a place that gets arctic winters, but the summers and humid season here just never ends. Greenville seems like a paradise with all the state parks within an hour drive in the foothills of the mountains. I’ve traveled almost every part of this country driving and spent almost a year out west in Arizona…. No place is perfect but the main motivation for me is weather and upstate SC seems to be in a “sweet spot”…. Not toooo hot, not tooo cold…. SC heat is a cakewalk compared to Florida heat, and 5 of my years here were in SW Florida…. Brutal heat.

@AaWa-dp4oq terrible drivers are everywhere. High crime rates here in Orlando. Sure it may be a little humid and warm in July and August but coming from Florida it will feel like a big relief…. Come live down here for a decade and let’s talk about humidity 😂😂

SC is my home state. Lots of rain especially in summer. Humidity wrecks havoc on asthma. Heavy in mosquitos, flys, and alligators. Sandy soil tears up roads creating potholes. I will never move. It's home.
