My mother in law grows them. I peel & boil them first, divide into small freezer bags and put in the freezer. When I’m ready to cook them I thaw it then mash it in pot on the stove with a little butter, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Delicious in the fall!!
I just planted pumpkins a week ago and a few days ago planted these Stripped Cushaw. My garden is about 1/4 acre and first time I garden so anxious to see how things go in the fall.
It’s fantastic. The Seminole pumpkin was also a fantastic pumpkin I grew in another location this year. I didn’t get a chance to make a video for it, but I had no squash vine borer issues, it produced over 30 pumpkins and they are absolutely delicious.
@@Louisianagardening Yes, I have seeds for the Seminole pumpkin and plan to grow that as well. I pretty much gave upon squash due to the vine borers, so I’ll be curious to see how we do this year. Thanks for your input!
Absolutely. Best of luck with them! I’ve also found that stagger planting them (one plant in March and one in April or one in April and one in May) really helped me miss the borer life cycle on years when I had a lot of pest pressure also.
@@Louisianagardening They do look very much like a large Cocozelle Zuchinni. ..but the flavour sounds quite different, and Cushaw's are considered a winter squash aren't they? Shame they don't store longer.
I have tasted it. I’ve picked several already this season and given them to a friend and she made some delicious sides with them. I just haven’t cooked one myself yet. A friend grew them last year and shared the seeds with me. They have produced better than almost every other squash in my garden with the exception of the cucuzzi squash. It’ll be a staple in my garden going forward.
Yes, I just planted my Cushaw squash seeds today, 5-9-2024, I hope they thrive.... Thank you for making this video....

Im excited to try this , resistance to SVB is a plus!
yes! They have been so awesome! We are loving them. Definitely will be a staple in my garden. :)
Sweet Potato replacement! Wow, now I really want to grow these. Hmm, how many squash can I squish into the garden? (see what I did there?) :-) :-)
Very clever. They are delicious!
I will say that they don’t keep as long as I thought they would.

You can't recommend it yet, you haven't tasted it.

I got the watermelon seeds! They went to my neighbor and he just brought them over.
Thank you!
@@Louisianagardening What? I completely forgot about that, it was over a month ago I mailed them! You probably still have time to plant them.
