The rest of us know that though we can have erotic love and friendship for the same person yet in some ways nothing is less like a Friendship than a love-affair. Bridgerton (as far as we know) is a show that is shutting down gay ships from the tumblr fanbase. After season 1 where two characters (Eloise and Benedict) talked about wanting a different kind of life (aka the restrictions of upper class society) and Benedict had a gay friend, the tumblrinas lost their minds and starting screaming that these characters were/should be gay.
    The showrunner (who himself is gay) made a statement that there was never any intended gay context, then the show vanished the gay friend and gave both Eloise and Benedict straight love interests in season 2. They swung back hard. As they should bc the show is based on straight couple romance novels. Now the show is too scared to include side characters with gay relationships because the weirdos will take it too far.

    Years ago the gays wanted to be seen as normal people. Now, this gay man implies that homosexuals are completely different from straight people. He thinks that some experiences are exclusively homosexual. He is acting like the two groups are two different species because they have two different processes to him. My family is very conservative in some ways I am also, but they do not think this way. 'Luca' was based on the director's own experiences, yet he is acting like the director could not act that way. How is this man real?

    • @kirikakirikakirika
      @kirikakirikakirika 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Actually, gays want to be treated like people, and they _are_ different. Being gay is different, and if you accept them for who they are you also have to accept that they're gay. They _do_ have different experiences from straight people and they _do_ live through different processes. Their lives are generally more difficult because they don't know who is and isn't safe to approach. They don't know if it's okay to have a simple crush. Gay children in particular struggle with loneliness and confusion, especially if they have no support. Moreover, the director of Luca, Enrico Casarosa, came forward and said he understood how the film could be seen as a gay coming of age story.

Just because some gay people have some different struggles from straight people about being gay and have somewhat different processes, doesn’t mean the two have absolutely no common ground whatsoever. If keep focusing on the differences you’ll never see that both sides still have a lot in common, if you remove the struggles gay people go through specifically because of their sexuality, many of them would be no different from straight people. Yeah it's not a gay men projecting problem but a media problem. People complain about gays looking too hard at what are clearly just friendships, but uou can't blame gays for projecting on same-sex friendships when media's conditioned us to see nearly all opposite-sex friendships as destined to be together.
      One author that accidentally did this right but almost didn't was JK Rowling. It was nice that there was never any romantic tension between Hermione and Harry. They were two hetero friends who never felt more than friendship between each other and that is so refreshing. JK almost messed this up though because she said in an interview years later that she thought Harry should've ended up with Hermione but nah that would've ruined it. Yeah, Hermione and Ron aren't a great pair either - them as a couple feels kind of forced - and if Ron wasn't in the equation JK would've forced Harry and Hermione together, so not a great example, but it goes to show how excessive forced romance in media warps our perception. I totally can't tell the difference between friendliness and flirting and it totally fucks with my head. I think a lot of people can't, straight or gay.

    Exactly. And I get the point that people make about hetero/straight kid characters in love not being talked about as much, example Carl and Ellie from “Up”, or even Aaron and Abbey from Mitchell’s vs. the Machines. But the difference here is that when a little boy and a little girl in a movie have a little crush on each other, people don’t OBSESS with them, pardon me, FUCKING each other, like they do with “gay” kids. They just think it’s cute and move on. Here, people are thinking it’s a personal attack on them that these two little BOYS are NOT in love. “They HAVE to be in love, because it fits with what I imagined in my head!” That’s where it gets creepy, where they use these child characters to exploit for their political BS. Why can’t you just wait until they actually WANT to do it, such as with Luz and Amity from Owl House? They’re kids, and nobody had a problem with it! They just thought it was cute, and a good step forward, and moved on. But I especially cannot forgive and will not stand for people who tell writers what to write. At that point, it’s just entitled and narcissistic, acting like you have more power over the actual writer, and that they owe you and should give you what they want. If a writer doesn’t want to write their story a certain way, you respect their decision, and gtfo. Ship whatever you want, but accept the facts at the end of the day.

    Plus this is just a personal pet peeve, but i believe it woud be better if actual seried that feature actually gay characters would be highlighted by these people instead, because there are legit good series that feature gay leads that are not politicised like batwoman(and suck like batwoman) and don't make you look like a creep for romanticizing minors.
    For example heaven official's blessing, bongcheon's bride and nier series all feature pretty great gay reps while not making it a point like hollywood does like the stories dont beat you into submission wity them being gays.
    I honestly feel like videos like the whole disney's gay appropriation do not care for gay people, but rather for views, because they use homosexuality and popular company productions as title bait for people who are starved for representation yet give a hollow analysis of nothing.

    I think the weirdest part is the idea that there are children who need role models that are gay. Issue with this idea is that gays are a minority and kids don't have or need an understanding of sex at the age broadcasted for movies/TV shows. Sexuality is going to go over their head at the ages that these shows are meant for and forcing it on them at such a young age doesn't really do anything. Humans look to belong somewhere, especially at that age. A gay preteen's main concern isn't going to be if their feelings are normal, their concern is if other ppl will accept them. They aren't going to look at the TV shows for this acceptance, they're looking for that in their parents, friends, and loved ones. At least, that's my understanding.

    • @timtam3730
      @timtam3730 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      I mean, I'm gay and yeah, I kinda agree with what you're saying. Because when you're 12 or 13 years old and still trying to figure out your sexuality, at least for my case I wasn't really bothering about representation because I was still learning to accept myself. And I eventually did, and that's something that I did on my own and only afterwards I was able to appreciate GOOD representation in movies like Brokeback Mountain or Moonlight.
      But it's not like I didn't have any role models though because there were a lot of shows and movies that had some great characters that I looked up to. Like Sokka from Avatar The Last Airbender, because I loved how eventhough he wasn't the main character and didn't have any bending abilities or anything he basically carried the whole plot of the show.

    • @TheeOK1
      @TheeOK1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@timtam3730 that brings an issue where I don't really try to argue due to my ideals of it not making much sense to me. While I loved certain characters in tv shows or cartoons I never looked up or aspired to be them as much as admired certain traits or ideals they encompassed. Or just enjoyed watching them. Simply put, I liked these characters but they weren't my role models. It's one of the problems I find prevalent with this representation craze: Role models in TV. Why are we trying to make fictional characters role models for these kids and not, at the most, moral guides? It's silly to me.
      And as you've made clear through your writing, characters don't have to be like you in order to be role models. You just have to admire them enough; I admired Oscar de la Hoya as a kid and I'm black

    • @timtam3730
      @timtam3730 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@TheeOK1 I have a a lot of real life role models as well, most notably my parents. Like, when you're young of course you would love your parents but as I got older and became more aware of the world I began to appreciate my parents even more because a lot of kids have divorced parents or parents who don't give a shit about them but I somehow got lucky with my parents because they've been married of almost 30 years and they've always been there and involved with me and my 7 siblings (yes, we're ALL biologically related and are from the same parents) which is why I really admire them.
      I guess another real life role model for me with would Randy Shilts. He was the first openly gay news reporter but that's not why I admire him, what I admired about him was how he was one of the first people to really spear head the research into the AIDS epidemic, and was not afraid to speak solid facts, even if it went against what gay community believed in. He was also so stringent on being non-biased that when he was working on a compilation of his research, he suspected that he himself might have AIDS but he didn't go to get a diagnosis because he was worried that his diagnosis would make him biased on the topic.
      He passed away in early 90's, sadly.

Which Emile looks with a very slow realization, "I don't know." In this simile, we the people who know what a relationship should look like are Remy, and this idiot is Emile.

    At 58:32 I HAVE TO CALL OUT BULLSHIT AT 4:30AM. The group was fighting so THEY get treated "fairly" but as we saw in no way home and Wandavision the people who got snapped were also screwed over. They lost homes, jobs, family members. In ENDGAME steve is attending a group therapy for people who lost loved ones and you know some people moved on, got married, and now their ex is back, their new relationship is complicated and they have to come face to face with so.eone they moved on from. People were left homeless, jobless, they were removed from school. And what about people like Monica's mom, who lost children, do you know the statistics for people who end themselves because their CHILD died. And again NWH told us that there were children who disappeared but NOT their parents, like Hawkeye. God it pisses me off when mfers try and paint the flag smashers at the good guys fighting for the little guy when they were selfish entitled pricks who didn't want to give up other people's stuff.

      Btw the other white guy only killed ONE person after they killed his black best friend, and immediately after he lost his job and got dishonorably discharged, lost the title of Captain America and got thrown under the bus on national television and the two people who SHOULD understand him best immediately replaced him and told him he can eat a dick. Not even going into that they painted him as the villain for "stealing" the shield when SAM GAVE IT AWAY BECAUSE HE DIDN'T WANT TO BE CAPTAIN AMERICA. AND THIS WAS IN THE LORE OF THEIR SHOW.

      Also I have no idea why ANYONE would want to claim nimari when the whole movie is Raya out to get revenge because Nimari pretended to be nice to her to get access to Raya's kindom's portion of the magical gem even knowing that when she took that gem everyone in the kingdom will die. They weren't even friends. The entire movie was predicated on psychological and emotional abuse from a manipulative narcissistic who only did the right thing at the end because her actions ended up biting her in the ass and killing her people too. But before that she had no qualms about killing a literal baby.

    “Straight guys were excited to see Call Me By Your Name meets The Shape of Water.”
    Aren’t those both sexually charged stories? Like, Call Me By Your Name is a romance story that involves the two characters connecting sexually, and Shape of Water is someone getting wet for Abe Sapien(no really it’s the same actor, Doug Jones).
    I don’t think Luca, an animated kids movie about two bros being bros in an unknown world, could be considered a combo of those two movies. I mean, two dramatic romance movies with R ratings don’t make a feel-good Pixar movie for kids.
    Keep in mind I haven’t watched either movie (yet), but it wouldn’t surprise me if James hadn’t either. It’s likely he just saw the poster and was like, “I know everything about these movies. Me super knowledgey.”
    Also Michael Stuhlbarg was in both of the first two movies and not Luca, so…

      It is. I haven't watched all of Adventure Time because it's not really my thing but if what you're saying is true that they were hinting at them being interested in each and were slowly building it up till they finally acknowledge their love in a later season, there's nothing problematic or shallow about that at all, that is good romantic storytelling.

    There are plenty of bisexual characters in media that are in gay relationships. Just because they aren't making characters you decided were gay or queer doesn't mean they queer baited you. People of the same sex can be friends and care about one another without being queer. If a shipper wants to headcanon a character as gay cool do that but don't get pissed off when it turns out the creator of that character makes them straight. I don't mind some shippers as long as they are respectful to the creator and actors in a show. The really creepy ones are the ones that start shipping the actual actors as gay because they saw they had "genuine chemistry and they clearly weren't acting" stop being delusional and harassing actors at cons. Like you stated there is plenty of queer bating in media but they cherry pick what they wanna get pissed over. Also as far as his comment on how the media is controlled by straight people I clearly remember a queer creator working for Disney stating publicly they were going to add queer representation as much as they can in everything. If Disney keeps queer baiting you how about you stop watching it? I've pretty much stopped watching all the new stuff Disney makes cause it's a absolute dumpster fire at this point regardless.

    Where is the patriotism? where is the nationalism in Captain America show? In all seriousness we should just let men and boys be friends instead of forcing sexuality onto them whether in real life or in fiction, A huge enough amount of creepers sexualize the movie “Luca”, there is no such thing as “black culture” or “white culture”, and melting pot is a better allegory for American culture than a salad because it in melting pot we’re all united and a salad we are separate but equal.
