- On a recent episode of The Jeff Marek Show, Elliotte Friedman has revealed the strategy that Calgary Flames General Manager Craig Conroy will take into free agency this off-season and it should please Flames fans that it is a complete 180 from how ex-GM Brad Treliving would have approached the frenzy. Mark Griffith breaks it down.

Connie just did an interview with Boomer that covered a lot of this stuff as well. One thing he said which I loved (paraphrased) was: I never want to sign a contract I can't trade. Smart guy. He also said they would build the team through trades and the draft...not UFAs. Music to my ears. The anti-Tre.
Conroy also mentioned that they may use cap space to take on another team's regret in exchange for more picks. Beauty!
I know you were tongue-in-cheek regarding Stamkos, but it got me thinking how interesting it might be to see a pure sniper centering Hubey. I mentioned before that I felt Tampa would probably find a way to get Stamkos signed. But if he decided to go full mercenary I would over pay to get him for a couple of seasons.
Conroy also mentioned that Iggy will be in the stands with his fam at the draft. If CGY picks Tij it will be cool to see the reaction of his family.
Flames have more quality pucks coming soon than the Leafs have had in the last 20 years. I know this is a Flames community, not Leafs, but a leopard can't change its spots. Excited for the Flames though! 👍👍

My free agent pitch would be simple. We are a rebuilding team that can give a decent contract for two years, we want a winning hockey culture for our rookie players and can give older players some cash, if they exceed all expectations they can be traded at the deadline for a chance at the cup. Otherwise they can relax for there final NHL years and collect the bread.
Also I ve never been more indifferent about signing a player then brady skjei. Major take it or leave it

No on Monahan, he's looking for term after which we cannot do. Skjei yes but 2 year term which could make him attractive at the TDL & give him extra $$$. Stamkos no thanks. He has more money than all your subscribers combined. Wait until mid/end of July to go bargain/short term shopping.
Teams like Vegas & Washington & Colorado are needing cap, can we pick off some top 20 1sts or decent player. Maybe Colorado needs to move Colton, can we get #23 out of them? How about Vegas, is it to their advantage Mark to offload the remaining year of Lehners 1 year LTIR where they wont accumulate cap space & gives them $5.0 mill up front instead of waiting until start of season? Can we give them Pelts & a 3rd for Lehner & the #19? or how about Pelts & the #28 & #62 for Hague & that #19? Would love to see cap space to get an extra top 20 pick this year or another piece & use cap & some of our draft capital. Gio will probably be the Flame reunion on a 1 year min deal lol

If the Flames sign anyone, like Stamkos to centre Hubby! And a top right winger. The Flames would have a top first line again! Kuzmenko, Kadri and Sharky on the second line. Tij would be a great addition as well. Go Flames Go!!!
