When I used to visit Honolulu from Australia, walking or jogging along the Ala Wai canal was one of favourite early morning pastimes. Such an awesome place with great memories for me..

My grandmother and her brother lived at the beginning of the Ala Wai closer to Jefferson Elementary first at the beginning of Paokalani then Aina Kea WY I lived with my grandmother for some time in my childhood teenage and then adulthood so those are my stomping grounds the old parts have all been replaced with hotels and Condominiums lots of the landmarks has changed some of the old apartments still remain and some of the old homes, which is really nice . Thank you for your video God bless you and yours❤

Walk the other side sometime. Very different experience walking from the McCully Bridge to the Iolani campus. Check out the community gardens. Thanks from your walks, it keeps in me in touch when I am away from the Islands.

I lived in Oahu for 8 months back in 2015. It was so fun an I wish I never had to move. I would love to move back one day! I'm 63 so I need to locate a girlfriend an make it happen! I've walked that same sidewalk. Aloha☀️🌋🌺🌺🌺

Stayed at the Banyon many times on many visits to Hawaii. Walked along the canal almost daily. I once walked around the outside of Diamond Head. Maybe you could do that for one of your videos? Had to walk along the highway on the ocean side so had to be a little careful of traffic. Saw many homeless camps in the wooded areas at the foot of Diamond Head. Thanks for your videos.

yeah the homeless situation isn't the best. Here's a older video I didn't on Diamond Head Road th-cam.com/video/vOuTXN_U3kA/w-d-xo.html

@@PhotoLukeHawaii Thanks for the video. It reminded me of the many things I have seen in Hawaii. Was that a Leonard's Bakery box of sweets in the car scene. Used to walk to Leonard's too.

I used to live in one of the buildings on Ala Wai, on the side that faces Ala Moana, and one day as I was walking there was a small crowd gathered around the canal. They were checking out two giant manta rays that had wandered in, which is pretty rare I guess. It was awesome to see but I would have preferred they were out in the open water.
I agree with what you say about most people who live in town not wanting to be there. I'll always enjoy a fun atmosphere and it's always nice to see nice things, but I have to live in Waikiki because I work in restaurants. If I could I would live out in the trees and only venture out to restock occasionally😂

Oh wow cool! I think I remember you saying something about the manta rays before, very cool!

Yup. Someone in one the tall buildings recorded vid of manta ray swimming down Ala Wai.
