In this ocean of videos that is youtube, yours are like incredible pearls. And even though, I'm still too green to grasp the majesty and wisdom of your words, I know that once I catch up, these will become a treasure. Keep it up, Maestro!! ^^
I've been studying the first part of your version of Better days ahead and it's been mind blowing and very challenging but this is a pearl for Metheny lovers and the way you work on those masterpieces is wow! By the way the 7 strings classic is fantastic
Very good Gabriel, an interesting lesson and very technical on his part. This, in my opinion, is one of Pat Metheny's songs with rhythmetic and difficult chords and you were able to interpret it very well. Fantastic as always! SM, from Italy
I could play this standing on my head. The trouble is I can only do it standing on my head, and I can't stand on my head. Gabriel, you are a genius and I think Pat would be very proud of your interpretation. Thanks so much....now back to trying to stand on my head.
Two beautiful solos bro!!! I like the first one more cos I’m getting old and prefer slow tempos There’ aren’t many musicians willing to take that risk alive in camera I called this honesty
Excellent, beautiful, thank you for a great performance Any chance you can teach us the chords changes and how to approach the improvisation ? Thank you 🙏
Man what a blessing to find your channel, espero que você tenha muito sucesso nessa plataforma também, que seja só uma fração do seu talento já vai ser muito mano hahaha um abraço
hi George! There's an episode where I talk all about these voicings which I call "Adjacent Fifths". Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/7lFGNMx9eLc/w-d-xo.html Enjoy! Best GS
Gabriel, one small thing... I think it would be a little bit better if you could put the microphone on the other side because sometimes I can't see your left hand. Also, thank you for an incredible class today! You rock. I RECOMMEND GABRIEL AS A PRIVATE TEACHER TO ANYONE. HE'S AWESOME.
Philippe Haddad Thanks for the recommendation. If I ever get back up to speed on guitar I will contact him. (I had three kids late in life. They are 4.4 yo, 4.4 yo and 2.5 years old. I’m finally getting some breathing room.)
Thanks bro!! Had fun in the lesson too. Looking forward to the next one. I finally solved that in the following videos! :-) Thanks for Watching. Best GS
Thanks a lot brother! I haven’t done tabs on this yet. Would you want tabs for the solo? Because the lead sheet is available on Metheny’s songbook. Cheers, GS
I've preferred to approach this tune like a singer instead of a more instrumental approach. I made a guide line w. important notes of the changes and put on a backing track and listen it over and over again, till I'be memorized and make it musical, and then I start to count octaves and when the chord changes (3 + 3 +4 etc...). Then I took guitar.
17:27 solo @ slower speed. 20:32 @ tempo. Hearing both I thought that the slower tempo was a more musical tempo. It’s not you. Faster is more awe-inspiring but slower tells more of a story. Slower has more beauty. No! I have not practiced over this tune! But I will give it a try. These days I’m practicing soloing on Sirabhorn. (HOW did he write THAT tune at such a young age??)
thanks for marking the times David! The slower tempo definitely gives it time to develop and really make those changes shine. Thanks a lot for watching! best GS
ese análisis me confirma que no es jazz. Es una improvisación con elementos celtas, jazz, clasicos y blues con otro lenguaje y más compleja rítmicamente. gracias gracias
