  • A series of #winter #storms pound #california bringing a massive #snow pack to the #Sierra, #flood #flooding to lower elevations in the valleys and along the #coast. Big #waves crash against the coast and into homes as well as businesses in Capitola, #cali. #travel has been difficult to impossible along the passes in the Sierra from heavy snow and icy roads. High #wind causes trees to fall on homes in #sacramento.
Video locations: Snow shots are along I-80 from Soda Springs to Donner Lake in the Sierra. Flooding shots are from Pescadora and Watsonville, CA. Drone shots of waves are from Carmel, CA. Pier and colorful homes with debris from waves is Capitola, CA. Trees down are from Sacramento and Elk Grove, CA.

This reminds me of the ski vacations/trips I took to the north Tahoe back in the early 80`a. Had a ton of snow back then. All I can say is that with the droughts of the last multiple years, I don't want to hear ANYONE complain about all the rain and snow we're getting now. Lord knows we need it here in California.

I'm impressed with all of the machinery and tools they have to clear the roads. Despite it being a mess now, it is good for the water supply and summer wild fires.

For those interested, the Sacramento Bee has an excellent article on historic floods in the valley. We now call the rain patterns atmospheric rivers but we used to call them Pineapple Express. I kinda miss that term! Enjoy your day!

This makes me remember the crazy back to back winters from my youth in the early 60's when all the roads were closed till spring.

In the 60s we had snow that covered our 3 story cabin in Tahoe up to the top window. We just walked in through the window then opened the front door and dug steps up to the surface. As kids it was wonderland. The dog loved it and dug most of the way for us.

I am from Switzerland and used to work as a ski instructor while studying. I am used to snow, lot's of snow, but the amount of it at the start of this video even impressed ME! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for coming out to California. Seeing the snow gives me high hopes for our resevoirs this year. I'm sorry about the flooding, but this happens when we get the atmospheric rivers. I left the east coast 50 years ago and will never leave NorCal. You all have no idea how beautiful and rugged and wild it is. I'm a lucky girl!!

I used to live in Truckee where snow depths of 10 to 20 feet every winter is the norm. I do not miss that!!
