    The EU should increase and accelerate funding for public infrastructure projects such as this one, for both current and soon-to-be members. It would benefit everyone and boost the EU economy. I’m also happy to see that more connections to Milan are in the plans!

    My number one wish to the EU is to force all web sellers to allow costumers from every EU country to use any website and purchase any product and have it shipped anywhere in the EU. Today there are so many sites that you can’t purchase or book from if you happen to be in the ‘wrong’ EU country. Websites like wayfair only operates in Germany. They should be required to offer the same service to all other countries in the EU.

    • @carleryk
      @carleryk 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's definitely an interesting project although from an Estonian point of view pretty pointless. Most of our travels go to Finland, and from there to more distant places in Europe and the world. We rarely travel to Latvia or Lithuania since there's no real need for it. To be fair, some people do use Riga as the connection hub for air travels and some Stockholm. Estonia's capital Tallinn and Finland's capital Helsinki are very close to each other and belong to the 'Gulf of Finland' socioeconomic belt stretching from Stockholm, Sweden to St. Petersburg, Russia. Most travels to Estonia and from Estonia are therefore understandably made to these cities, especially to Helsinki and Stockholm, and usually by ferry. Talsinki railway tunnel between Tallinn and Helsinki would be more important to us, as it would cut the traveling time between both capitals to 20-30 minutes (currently only planes do that) but we've been told that we can't have it without Rail Baltic high-speed railroad. Anyway, I wouldn't make Rail Baltic more important than it actually is. It's just another high-speed capable track that is going to be used mostly by freight trains and local trains inside each country. I reckon the busiest international route is going to be Kaunas - Warsaw.

    • @Newbyte
      @Newbyte 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly what we really need is more standardisation. Another train company isn't going to solve that problem. For example the EuroNight service between Stockholm and Berlin provided by SJ is currently missing its restaurant and seating cars because Denmark hasn't approved the carriages yet despite SJ providing the necessary information over a year ago. The European Union Agency for Railways is supposed to approve carriages like this but Denmark apparently vetoed these because of concerns with some tunnel, but it really shouldn't have to take longer than a year to get carriages approved for cross-border services like this. At the time of writing I haven't heard any news of them being approved still.

    Linking Lisbon to Madrid could have already been done if Spain hadnt rejected Portugal's proposal just because of the way they build their HSR, which is highly political.
    Truth is that an eletrified connection already exists in the North to Galicia but the train that runs there is still a diesel one cause Spain never migrated to the standard eletrification.

    • @o.-w.heinze1350
      @o.-w.heinze1350 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Apparently there is no standard Electrification. In another movie the different voltage and gauge standards for rails are put in parallel. So Portugal has introduced 25kV 50Hz and Spain has 3KV DC. which is also used in Belgium, Italy, Poland and Russia. So it is even more distributed than 25kV, but it is less suitable for High speed rails. Therefore I think, it is replaced by 25kV in Spain on new standard gauge lines. But Spain and Portugal up to now share the same gauge of 1668mm. To inroduce e.g. 25kV thereon in Spain would even increase the number 'of standards'

    Makes no sense to connect Lisbon with Madrid. Why would anyone would do that? Spain is basically a desert and it would take like 5 or 6 hours to cover that distance by train, currently it takes 9.
    It is better to fly, even if you don't like it. And from Madrid (let's be honest, there is nothing interesting there anyway) it would take 3 additonal hours until reaching Barcelona. It is always better to take a low cost flight.
    Travel by train is great, but in Europe, where you have a lot of cities and lot to see, not in the Peninsula that is almost a desert everywhere, with cities quite spreaded. And on top of that, you would need to cross the Pyrenees to get to the real Europe and there you have no tunnels or shortcuts, you can only do it near the sea.

    Spain to France by train 4-5 hours, by plane 2 hours, but you need to be at the airport 1-2 hours early, with checking and stuff, so almost the same. I'd prefer the train anytime.

    Interesting and great proejct, cool video, I am sure it will help more people to understand what is going on within EU and how it works overall and what does for people, so russian propaganda would affect our people less and thus brexit scenario which still hurts a lot of people wont happen ever again.
    Wish this project would have included Ukraine, hovewer, I know that as for now it seems impossible cause Ukraine actually still uses soviet-time rails, meaning that we have to rebuild our railway first to properly integrate with EU or purchase a bunch of trains which are capable of switching track types, which is really not a good idea in a long-term perspective.

    • @Siranoxz
      @Siranoxz ปีที่แล้ว

      I've heard that Ukraine will be part of the EU rail network system as it was discussed last year ago since the whole war escalated.
      So Ukraine will be part of the high speed rail network regardless.
      The problems with trains and EU rails system standards will be settled, which isnt really an issue really.
      Ukraine will be part of all EU major mega projects, not just rails.

    This is undoubtedly a good idea, if only for the reason that the freeways are always congested and people spend a lot of wasted time there. However, there is still a lot of homework to be done in order to make rail travel more attractive than cars or air travel. The first thing that comes to mind is speed. Then punctuality and reliability would be an issue. In all the points mentioned, one can learn from Japan and take over. Then there would be the customer friendliness of the company. I don't necessarily attribute that to the staff, but to the way the company treats customers. The DB (Deutsche Bahn) is an absolute disaster. Then there's the convenience, if I'm traveling from Copenhagen to Madrid I'm not interested in boarding a train that doesn't have a sleeper, bistro, internet access, (entertainment in general) or comfortable seats. The same prices for such a trip across Europe would also be helpful.

    This is the complete wrong approach. Firstly the EU should set up a company that gets all EU track and administers it like a toll highway system where everyone can book a time slot on a particular line either once or recurring continuesly. To allow smaller and bigger operator's easily to have cross country networks.
    This and/or have a program like the American Highway act to build high speed rail, 250-350 km/h on average, between most European population centers.
    The first one should not be that expensive to do it is a purely political issue since most rail is already under public ownership so it would just need to be transferred from national to one EU wide company that can also standardise all the track and voltages across the EU.

    • @herlescraft
      @herlescraft ปีที่แล้ว

      Your first point is already in place in many European countries

    • @Jacober1234
      @Jacober1234 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@herlescraft but thats the thing, the rail system is great within each country but very bad between them so my point is that I want that system Europe wide to make traveling between countries as it is within them. And yes it would be possible to do that with agreements between the different national rail operators but it would be faster, less paperwork, and most of all it would be way cheaper due to economics of scale. Its cheaper for one company to own 200km of track then it is for two to each one 100km.
