Bob, that man who played Floyd on this episode is one of the townspeople. He's a short fellow that wears wire rim glasses. He's played in many episodes. I saw him on All in the Family. It was the episode that Archie's friend, Stretch Cunningham died and when Archie had to speak at the service, Archie accidently stepped on his foot and this same man hollered ouch. This episode which was supposed to be on Nov 25th, was the day a was born.Great videos always Bob!😊
He looks like Mr. Wilson, but we'll never know. I have noticed him; since you pointed it out, Bob. I am glad Floyd could come back. Even if it wasn't quite the same. 😢
Floyd was the quintessential resident of Mayberry. Quirky, yet beloved and respected by his fellow Mayberrians. It's such a shame Howard McNear suffered the severe stroke, not only for Howard, but because it robbed TAGS fans of his genius for 40 episodes. I listen to classic radio. It's amazing how prolific Howard and Parley Baer were on radio shows. Great episode Bob. Guess we'll never know who the mystery stand in was. It will forever remain one of those unsolvable mysteries along with Mr. Schwamp's identity. Appreciate you Bob.
@@kevincharles3309 I also love Parley and Howard’s work on the Gunsmoke radio show. I have listened to all of them at least 3 times. There were so many talented actors, John Dehner, Harry Bartel and Lawrence Dobkin (who directed a couple of TAGS episodes) just to name a few.
Interesting video. I didn't notice the imposter Floyd on that episode . That was one of my favorite episodes. Always thank you. Praying for you 🙏 Melanie
There's another time, I believe the case of the Punch in the Nose, where Barney's driving up to the courthouse with sirens blaring. As they pass Floyd's barbershop, there's a strange barber and customer wearing a sheet gawking at the scene. Odd, I thought
This could be another example of a fake Shemp. It's hard to tell if this person has a mustache. The Loaded Goat started in the barbershop. But Floyd was gone to lunch. Another time Opie complained about getting hair down his back. Now Andy may have to take a bath too! Floyd was a great character played by a wonderful actor. I doubt the original actor would have had the same impact. Kudos to Andy for finding a way to bring Howard McNear back. Florence Henderson definitely had a rowdy side. How ironic that two other famous TV moms won Oscars for playing very different characters! What if the Bradys had ever visited Mayberry?
Agree that it was probably an extra or staff member, who was Floyd in the window. But nobody could have played Floyd better than Mr Howard McNear. Even in the Gunsmoke episodes that Mr McNear played a role, you could see the development of Floyd. As usual, your video was very interesting & I enjoyed it….Papaw Dan
I didnt notice the imposter that played Floyd the barber. It might have been Mr Wilson. Howard McNear played Floyd very well. He was a true resident of mayberry . And he's missed very much. It's too bad that he died of a stroke. Good video bob
Even in freeze frame mode, i cant tell thats not floyd During original showing, did some keen observers notice? Was his health kept private during his absence? Werent people curious about his non appearances? I was two yrs old
One thing that was prevalent and I disliked the most was “jumping the shark” on TAGS. People were there and then they weren’t, no mention of what happened to them or nothing written into the story line to push it forward. Much loved characters were just gone from the show, so maybe people did wonder what happened to Floyd but was resigned to the fact that it happened all the time. Even when regular Barney Fife left after 5 seasons there was no mention until he showed up in a guest episode much later as having moved to Raleigh. I’ve always felt this was a huge oversight of the writers to dismiss the loved characters with such disdain.
@judithwest4183 thx reply Show was before my time , but lengthy disappearances should be written into script Warren vanished of the face of the earth! Why not say grandmother sick, he was hired as lead sheriff of another town, he started a private detective school, etc This way? They/he can always return if /when producers feel it fits narrative
Mr. Wilson who was played by Joseph Kearns died in February of 1962.
So it couldn’t be him.
I wonder if it was just a staff member?
I was thinking that too. He was already gone by this episode.

That’s what I figured. They probably just grabbed a person on staff to stand in for those few seconds.
Someone under contract at Desilu or maybe a stand-in. Good catch!
He definitely looks like Mr.Wilson at a distance. 🤔
I believe by 1963 Joseph Kearns was dead. He was Mr. Wilson on DTM. He died 2-17-62
Hi Bob and everyone Great video Thank you for the video God Bless Much Love Jean from Hollywood California

Was it Allan Melvin??? Hahaha... he was on the show a lot.
We need to Call You “Eagle Eye”. Amazing.
I don't think I noticed the other actor who played Floyd, loved Howard McNear in the role. Thanks Bob.
It looks like Joseph Kearns to me, thanks Bob. 🙋♂️🙏
❤❤
Its Elvis 🤣

From the view from the window it looks like John Masters…the choir director and Mayberry Hotel front desk clerk. I doubt it’s him though.

Surprised it wasn't Rance Howard..

Since Ron Howard was in the scene with the Floyd imposter I'm wondering if anyone has asked him or could still ask him.
I doubt it. Ron Howard was only 7 at the time
gomer said she's nice. howard mcnear was a nice man. i remember Joseph kearns.
Look at me first fan
Hard to tell who it is
It could've been Olan Soule, Bob!
Too big🤔
