Really great video! Thank you for explaining how learning scrolls works in accordance to what casting modifier it uses! Although, im still confused about the 12 points in intellect. Since learned spells from scrolls with be using charisma (right?), what are the 12 points there for? Are they just there for other spells you gain through leveling up wizard? Im just trying to figure out how important intellect is when multi-classing with wizard. Any help understanding this would be great!
I played a similar build but casting as a wizard. That way you can learn Chain Lightning as a regular spell. While it's worse in social interaction, it's certainly more flexible as far as spell selection goes.
I'm running this build but putting 2 levels into monk instead of wizard, so I can use Sparkle hands and get fury of blows as a close range option. Using equipment with lightning charges is kinda gimmicky but it fits the theme and deals surprising dmg
I love the boots of stormy clamour (when I'm allowed to wear shoes) PS I can't pronounce Markoheshkir either ALSO TIL about the Feywild Sparks giving +1 Spell DC
Fortunately, shoes are generally the least important part of any gearset. Also after 20 takes of trying to say Markoheshkir, it was never staying in the script.
Wet making enemies vulnerable to lightning damage + the destructive wrath damage max just eviscerates most enemies if they aren't flat out immune to lightning damage.
If you use a hierling transmutation wizard in your camp and get them to level 6, they can make a transmuter's stone for your character to hold that can give you a variety of buffs. One of them gives you proficiency in constitution saving throws. So technically you can have your cake and eat it too by starting with cleric as early as level 6 and then just holding that stone. Downside is you have to recreate the stone and give it to your character every long rest which might get tedious.
Thanks for this build! Some friends and I are going to try and beat BG3 on honor mode this summer! And I was looking for something exactly like this: heavy armor magic user with wizard’s scroll sculpting. 🙏
Happen to be doing my Durge playthrough like this and not very far but its already fun. Went Blue Dragonborn just to commit to the electricity theme and it gives you lightning resistance and lightning breath just for extra measure. Create water + lightning spells make damage go brr. Combined with the repositioning of Temptuous Magic, its basically my Aerothurge build from my Divinity 2 Playthrough which was my favorite RPG build ever I think
Great build! Id strongly recommend switching the order of the first two levels though! You still get the weapon and armor proficiency from cleric by level 2, but starting as sorcerer gives you proficiency in con saves aka concentration. Also in practice, ive notice the order of levels doesnt seem to impact the stats used for items
Heavy Armor proficiency doesn't get given when you multiclass, you have to start as a class with Heavy Armor Prof to get that one. Also, if you want to see the item casts being effected by levels take 1 pt sorcerer then cast a scroll on someone and check the Spell Save DC in the combat log it will use your charisma, then multiclass cleric and cast another scroll and check the Spell Save DC, it will use your wisdom. Then, class sorcerer again, now test a scroll and youll notice the spell save DC is using your wisdom DC still.
@@Stealth_07 the multiclass rule with armor is generally the case. Cleric is the exception because the gain Heavy Armor and Martial Weapon proficiency as a Subclass feature, rather than the normal starting proficiencies. So you still pick em up after level 1.
@@RobThePrincess You are right, I stand corrected. I thought Ranger Knight was the only exception to the rule. I think the sorc start could be viable early then, I'd still swap out of it to sorcerer last for the item spell save DC later down the line though since certain important spells like Chain Lightning are only either cast-able through the wizard spell slots or items and I find its very important to utilize our highest spell casting stat for those spells.
@@Stealth_07 The issue with Sorcerer start is then your casting stat for scrolls and magic items will either be Wisdom or Int depending on whether cleric or Wizard was taken last. Now my particular version of this build actually has 20 int and 20 cha (mirror +1 cha, +2 int, ethel +1 cha, ASIs +2 cha, +2 int, base 16 in cha and int from character select, also respec). This allows me to do equally well with int and cha so either can be last. I start with Sorcerer in this case and take Wizard as my third multi class.
@@Duncan55Watson hey i think i will try your approach! but sadly i dont know all of these abbreviations, can you tell me where to get those extra stats ?
I would absolutely recommend Dual Wielder for a Sorceror. Get yourself both the Marheshkonirefirafer-whatever and the Staff of Spellpower, and between those you can cast 3 6th level spells, which with this build, would devastate every encounter by sending out 3 Chain Lightnings especially if twin spelled, AND get the Amulet of the Devout which gives you a third channel divinity, and hoo-boy thats a lotta damage!
Where are you getting all those chain lightnings though? Markhoheshkier only gives you one. You can use scrolls but they cost 900 gold each. Learning it as a wizard would have you casting off intelligence.
@insomniac0095 Both the Marko staff and Spellpower give Arcane Battery, and they do stack so you get two casts of a spell without expending the slot. Have Haste on you prior to combat, or a potion of speed, or the Elixir of bloodlust to get a second action. 1) First action, Markos arcane battery, chain lightning, still have spell slot. 2) Second action, repeat with the spellpower staffs arcane battery, still have spell slot. 3) Quickened spell, bonus action, chain lightning, finally expends spell slot.
@@cyanide7270 so not expending a spell slot also makes it so you can cast an item spell multiple times? I thought the item spells were once per long rest regardless of whether you use a spell slot or not. That's cool if so.
@insomniac0095 Arcane Battery is only once per long rest yes, but only per item. If you use Markos battery, you can't use that one again, but can still use staff of spellpowers one. Once you use both, then yes you need to take a long rest.
@@cyanide7270 Cool, yeah I knew Arcane battery was once per long rest and that having two would let you do it twice. I just thought that spells that came from a staff, like Marko's chain lightning, did not recharge from Arcane battery. Because item spells dont use a spell slot anyway, so it's weird that they're impacted by Arcane battery. But if so, thanks!
For Act 1 (levels 1-5) what spells do you recommend to tide over? Also what ability bonuses did you use? At 2:43 this looks like the spread before applying the bonuses.
It's a LOT better to start Sorcerer. 17 Int/16 Cha/14 Con is the best stat spread if you're hogging all the good items (ie.. gloves of dex). You're also missing the best meta magic: extend. Extend Command is the best control spell in the entire game.
@@davidosamu2511 If you multiclass into wizard later, spells based on items, like scroll spells, and cantrips from wizard and spells learned from wizard all use intelligence instead. If you learn chain lightning from a scroll, it will use intelligence because wizard was the last learned class and also where you learned the spell from. At least, I think that's how it works, I'm honestly not 100% sure lol
A good idea for a future video would be a build guide for a truly OP "EARLY GAME" build that can truly make Honor mode easy. I seen tons of BG3 build videos. Many raving how broken it is, but they are all late game builds. It really is nothing amazing to be powerful late game even on the harder difficulties.I was a god early game in Divinity 2 on the harder difficulties playing solo. I have over 150 hours on BG3 and in early game I struggle solo. I just can't seem to build a truly "Early Game" OP build for a solo playthrough. It's not until mid game that I no longer feel weak in this game. It's my biggest complain. My complain may sound silly. Because I am trying to feel powerful in a very difficult mode while playing solo for a game that was designed to be played with 4 characters. That is opposite of my complain. With 4 characters, this game is kind of easy even on the harder difficulties. Anyway I hope you have the the "Early Game OP" build in mind for a future video. Cause I have not succeeded in this. All my early solo builds are not making me feel very empowered. Hopefully you can help.
Thank you! By far the most difficult edit I've had to do both on the editing side and on the asset making side (its made of 20 layers of 70+ png and video elements spliced together for that 15 second sequence and I had to hand draw a lot of the parts for the VATS assets) but I'm very happy with how the edit came out.
neat build. im planning on using it as a companion build on Halsin (who always has call lightning) and take draconic bloodline instead for the cha mod added to lightning dmg vs a small aoe for like 2 or 3 dmg (robe of the weave+kethric's shield+draconic bloodline+dex has halsin at 19ac without evasive shoes vs 16ac with storm sorc. add in mirror image and youre now rocking a 28ac in robes+shield with an unbuffed 31 save dc) only downside to this method is his call lightning is wis based and cant upcast it, which makes it a dc25 vs dc31, but even my tav with a +17 dex mod failed that on my test. makes for a really strong companion build that way
Alternatively, you can go Storm Sorcerer-2/Wizard-2/Tempest Cleric-8. This gives you access to higher level Cleric spells, as well as more Channel Divinity charges, plus you get 2x metamagics and the ability to turn as many spell slots into Sorc Points as you want. Since all of your classes are full casters, you will get the full complement of spell slots including lvl 6 slots, and with Scribe Spell you have access to all Wizard spells (as long as you can find a scroll). I think this gives the greatest access to spells known, along with the two essential features from Tempest Clerics and Storm Sorcerers.
This level split is viable too, Id say the biggest loss for this split is the loss of access to the quickened spell metamagic which while not as big a deal in party play since an ally can cast create water for you, in solo play like I tend to play, having the ability to quick cast create water before casting your lightning spells can do wonders for amping your damage.
WOAH. So if I've got you right a level 2 wizard with 10 in another caster can scribe lvl 5 wizard spells? I did not think that would work but if so, amazing.
I think you're sleeping on the cold gear for a storm sorc. I mean the ideal scenario is to make everything wet in the area so you can zap people. But ya cold also deals double damage to wet enemies. Act 1 does not have to be at all a magic missle/reverb, but can totally lean hard into the Mourning Frost gear set up and still work just as well.
Looks very cool! I like rhe assassin build to from the style. Can you recommend one for beginners? Just bought the game and was hoping tonget some guidance with what to start. I pretty much like all classes for each their own styles so am not to picky on that. Thanks ❤
I would say, of my builds, either my assassin, paladin, or monk would probably be the easiest for someone new since they all have pretty straightforward gameplay approaches (Assassin shoots enemies, paladin smites enemies, monk punches enemies) (also obviously theres a little more nuance to those builds than that but at their core thats what they do) Whereas my other builds like this one or my arcane trickster tend to require a better understanding of certain game mechanics to pull off at their most effective. (Not to say they would be bad or anything, but in order to maximize those builds you'd need to be more proficient)
Hello, great build guide. Would it be possible to see cantrips and spells selection for each level? I've never played before with lighting build, so i have no idea which ones to pick
Keep in mind most of these choices are subjective and also that I'm trying to do this from memory without the game open: Cleric: Cantrips: guidance, resistance, thaumaturgy Spells: Sanctuary Sorcerer: Cantrips: Friends, Shocking Grasp, every other cantrip is your choice Spells: Magic Missile, Chromatic orb, shatter, lightning bolt, counterspell, slow, every other spell is up to you Wizard: Cantrips: doesn't matter Spells: Shield, Mirror Image(Learn it through scrolls), artistry of war (learn it through a scroll you can get in act 3), chain lightning (scroll) Every other spell you need is automatically learned via one of your classes (Create Water from cleric at level 2 and Call Lightning from Sorc at 6)
No mods, its the Hood of the Weave, Armour of persistence, cloak of the weave and helldusk gauntlets all dyed with the Boreal Blue dye with locations in the items section.
Its basically the armor set of the gear I suggest from Act 3 minus the boots. Hood of the Weave Armor of Persistence Cloak of the Weave Helldusk Gauntlets Boots of Persistence (I dont suggest these since theres no reason for this character to wear these over a different party member) As for the dyes, its the Boreal Blue Dye on each piece.
Usually I don't add much gameplay since I like to keep my videos relatively succinct and most of my builds have pretty straightforward gameplay approaches, but for this one I definitely should've done a gameplay explanation since the video was short enough that I had time to and because this class's combat loop is a little more complex than most of my other builds'.
Does anyone know if I respec my Gale (as he learnt all the scrolls) to follow your guide of cleric2/wizard2/sorcerer8 Would he keep the scrolls he learned? Edit: Yes, yes he does
so in the end what class should one start with when respeccing? wanna give this a shot now that im at later level. also, how does this build learn chain lightning, using scrolls? sry if thats a noob question lol
The respec level path is 2 Cleric -> 1 Wizard -> 6 Sorcerer -> 1 Wizard -> 2 Sorcerer. For learning chain lightning, once you are level 11 and have level 6 spell slots, a character with at least 1 level in wizard can right click (or its console equivalent) a chain lightning scroll and you should see an option to learn the spell for a sum of gold. This will permanently learn chain lightning on that character allowing them to put chain lightning in their wizard spell slots.
4:21, Do you mean that I need to respec when reaching level 9? I'm level 8 at the moment and soon level 9. Do I respec even though I picked Cleric at first level and Sorcerer from level 2? So I just do the same over again at level 9 and just pick Wizard in level 9?
Id rather start off as sorcerer cause it gives you proficencie in constitution and later on cleric will give you heavy armor anyway thanks to picking tempest domain
So chain lighting learned trough scroll will scale with charisma? Not from intelligence? I noticed that build with less than 11lv sorcerer cannot cast chain lighting scaling with charisma (20) and not intelligence (17) because learning It from spells make It a "wizard spell" so it wilk scale with intelligence despite the orderbof level you take... Found the best solution in using Markoheshkir, that way chain lighting Will scale with CHA for a sorcerer
i still don’t understand why we don’t still start w Sorcerer for the constitution proficiency and do 2 cleric, 1 wiz, and the rest on sorcerer. What’s the benefit of respec-ing with cleric on first 2 levels?
Idk why it was balanced this way, but yes you can learn spells up to the level of your highest spell slot, indeterminate of your number of wizard levels
Since I don't usually put gameplay explanations in my builds because I don't usually find them necessary, I'll leave a comment about something important for maximizing your damage output with this build.

I'd recommend Alert at first feat as it can be very useful to take out one or more enemies with this build before they even get a turn.
I played a similar build but casting as a wizard. That way you can learn Chain Lightning as a regular spell. While it's worse in social interaction, it's certainly more flexible as far as spell selection goes.
Never really liked playing as dedicated spell casters, but I think I'll have to give this build a try
congrats on 3k ♥
MOM STEALTH JUST DROPPED A NEW BUILD!
Thank you John Smith
@@Stealth_07 No problem boss man, I've enjoyed each of your builds.
I'm running this build but putting 2 levels into monk instead of wizard, so I can use Sparkle hands and get fury of blows as a close range option.
Using equipment with lightning charges is kinda gimmicky but it fits the theme and deals surprising dmg
I love the boots of stormy clamour (when I'm allowed to wear shoes)
PS I can't pronounce Markoheshkir either
ALSO TIL about the Feywild Sparks giving +1 Spell DC
Fortunately, shoes are generally the least important part of any gearset. Also after 20 takes of trying to say Markoheshkir, it was never staying in the script.
Another great creator. Love your stuff too Morgana ❤
@@garyco766 ❤️
I got you, just split it up into thirds. Marko-Hesh-Kir
Really nice video! Easy to understand and very well put together! I'm going to use this to make Storm from the X-Men 😁
Bro I just went through and respecced my tav with this while picking ice spells, and now ICY DEAD PEOPLE!
I dropped 154 point's of dmg on Myrkul with one lightning bolt at level 9 with this build. I'ts bananas.
Would have liked to see what cantrips and spells I should pick for the build
It's a lightning build buddy I'm sure you can work it out. Call lightning, lightning bolt, chain lightning etcetera.
So instead of cleric at level 1 I just choose storm sorcerer?
why int 17 ? Sorry I didn't understand the benefit of this, should spells be based on int or cha?
@@davidosamu2511 If you multiclass into wizard later, spells based on items, like scroll spells, and cantrips from wizard and spells learned from wizard all use intelligence instead. If you learn chain lightning from a scroll, it will use intelligence because wizard was the last learned class and also where you learned the spell from. At least, I think that's how it works, I'm honestly not 100% sure lol
That opening made me feel like fallout would make a great crpg too...lol
Hopefully you can help.
last unique class is wizzard, so Staffs chain lighting will have profficiency +1 because 12 int, i would stick to last Sorcerer class
0:13 that edit tho 😂😂
Thank you! By far the most difficult edit I've had to do both on the editing side and on the asset making side (its made of 20 layers of 70+ png and video elements spliced together for that 15 second sequence and I had to hand draw a lot of the parts for the VATS assets) but I'm very happy with how the edit came out.
@@Stealth_07 I was curious if any of it was hand drawn or assets used…very well done!!! I personally couldn’t discern a difference.
i love the format of your videos there so informative and straight forward
neat build. im planning on using it as a companion build on Halsin (who always has call lightning) and take draconic bloodline instead for the cha mod added to lightning dmg vs a small aoe for like 2 or 3 dmg (robe of the weave+kethric's shield+draconic bloodline+dex has halsin at 19ac without evasive shoes vs 16ac with storm sorc. add in mirror image and youre now rocking a 28ac in robes+shield with an unbuffed 31 save dc)
only downside to this method is his call lightning is wis based and cant upcast it, which makes it a dc25 vs dc31, but even my tav with a +17 dex mod failed that on my test. makes for a really strong companion build that way
Time to do a stormcaster run
@@Stealth_07
True, you could also lose 1 level in Cleric to bump up Sorc to 3.
I'm currently doing a storm sorc and I have my mage hand throw water bottles at enemies to amp my damage. @@Stealth_07
WOAH. So if I've got you right a level 2 wizard with 10 in another caster can scribe lvl 5 wizard spells? I did not think that would work but if so, amazing.
@@Makofueled it does.
Fallout Gate 3 looking real good
I think you're sleeping on the cold gear for a storm sorc.
Thanks ❤
I would say, of my builds, either my assassin, paladin, or monk would probably be the easiest for someone new since they all have pretty straightforward gameplay approaches (Assassin shoots enemies, paladin smites enemies, monk punches enemies) (also obviously theres a little more nuance to those builds than that but at their core thats what they do)
Whereas my other builds like this one or my arcane trickster tend to require a better understanding of certain game mechanics to pull off at their most effective. (Not to say they would be bad or anything, but in order to maximize those builds you'd need to be more proficient)
@@Stealth_07 awesome! Thanks a bunch 👍
Well here I go just got the act 3 now I'm starting a new character 😭
Hello, great build guide. Would it be possible to see cantrips and spells selection for each level? I've never played before with lighting build, so i have no idea which ones to pick
Keep in mind most of these choices are subjective and also that I'm trying to do this from memory without the game open:
Cleric:
Cantrips: guidance, resistance, thaumaturgy
Spells: Sanctuary
Sorcerer:
Cantrips: Friends, Shocking Grasp, every other cantrip is your choice
Spells: Magic Missile, Chromatic orb, shatter, lightning bolt, counterspell, slow, every other spell is up to you
Wizard:
Cantrips: doesn't matter
Spells: Shield, Mirror Image(Learn it through scrolls), artistry of war (learn it through a scroll you can get in act 3), chain lightning (scroll)
Every other spell you need is automatically learned via one of your classes (Create Water from cleric at level 2 and Call Lightning from Sorc at 6)
The armor you have on in the closing and opening scenes, is that the game armor or a mod? Looks really good, and thanks for the great build guide!
No mods, its the Hood of the Weave, Armour of persistence, cloak of the weave and helldusk gauntlets all dyed with the Boreal Blue dye with locations in the items section.
What armor is your character wearing? It looks sick
Its basically the armor set of the gear I suggest from Act 3 minus the boots.
Hood of the Weave
Armor of Persistence
Cloak of the Weave
Helldusk Gauntlets
Boots of Persistence (I dont suggest these since theres no reason for this character to wear these over a different party member)
As for the dyes, its the Boreal Blue Dye on each piece.
This guide is awesome! I wish to create monk without Brawler spec, maybe this is and idea ^^ ?
Great guide but i wish you told what spells to take at every level
Amazingly intricate build presentation 🤌🏾
Nice build. Any spell suggestions for each level?
bro keep them up i need fun ideas (please add a little bit more combat ty)
Usually I don't add much gameplay since I like to keep my videos relatively succinct and most of my builds have pretty straightforward gameplay approaches, but for this one I definitely should've done a gameplay explanation since the video was short enough that I had time to and because this class's combat loop is a little more complex than most of my other builds'.
Gonna turn Gale into this
Does anyone know if I respec my Gale (as he learnt all the scrolls) to follow your guide of cleric2/wizard2/sorcerer8
Would he keep the scrolls he learned?
Edit:
Yes, yes he does
You deserve more likes for actually following up your own question
What's your armor set, when you're showing the build, in the first part? I love the hood, and stormy look to the armor
so in the end what class should one start with when respeccing? wanna give this a shot now that im at later level. also, how does this build learn chain lightning, using scrolls? sry if thats a noob question lol
Most of the older builds no ĺonger work as the same class options are not there anymore. Lots has changed in the past year.
how do you get lightning around your staff and shield? Great builds by the way. love the dedication!
When you use the Unique ability of the legendary staff you get that effect around your weapons.
4:21, Do you mean that I need to respec when reaching level 9? I'm level 8 at the moment and soon level 9. Do I respec even though I picked Cleric at first level and Sorcerer from level 2? So I just do the same over again at level 9 and just pick Wizard in level 9?
I think you have to respec like this: Cleric ---- Wizard----Sorcerer 🤔🤔
Hello! Great vid and i want to go this route . Quick question tho. Do cantrips like firebolt scale with int or cha for sorc?
i still don’t understand why we don’t still start w Sorcerer for the constitution proficiency and do 2 cleric, 1 wiz, and the rest on sorcerer. What’s the benefit of respec-ing with cleric on first 2 levels?
Because the most recent level 1 class you pick will be the modifier you use for your spells
I don’t get the respect part too much does he mean that by level respec from lvl 1-2 cleric lvl 3-4 wizard and than the rest sorcerer?
So, when we respec, the first four levels should be cleric and wizard?
Technically you could say gith for the spells, halfling for luck, and high elf for a free cantrip
pls make a mage assassin or mage thief build. thx for guides
why dont we start sorcerer instead of cleric? and why care about int at all. i thought all the spell will use cha anyway?
Can you learn and use level 6 spells even if you only have 2 levels of wizard and 8 levels of sorcerer? How would that work?
Idk why it was balanced this way, but yes you can learn spells up to the level of your highest spell slot, indeterminate of your number of wizard levels
@@Stealth_07 thanks🙏
Can i do this build with draconic bloodline subclass insted of storm sorcery ? I like the scales on my character 😅😅
Why do you recomend the second level of wizard at 4:59? Could you skip this step for more sorcerer?
2 levels wizard lets us get a wizard subclass where as having a 9th level in sorcerer doesnt really get us anything of value.
8:25 "we require power so make sure to kill innocent bystanders."
