    I have ordered a pair of pedal straps from Bagaboo and I love them! Time to hit the steets and do some skidding!
    Thank you for watching!
    My bike is a pretty cheap, entry level fixed gear bike from Fixie Inc. This is my first summer riding fixed, and I’m having a lot of fun with it!

    One great tip is to put most of your weight on the handle bar while doing a skid, to avoid the bouncing rear wheel and overall easier to control and more balanced.

    I bought a fixie inc bike, my first upgrade was getting a 58t chainring, took a few months before my legs could handle it but once my cadence caught up with the original chainring it was like being strapped to a rocket.

    • @addvurtbikes
      @addvurtbikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      58 sounds absolutely wild! I tried 49/16 and didn’t enjoy how hard it was to start or stop so I just went back to 46/16, which feels like home :)

    u can also try other handle bars such as a wide or riser bar. also take note of the clamping diameter when looking for one. a wide or riser bar can be much ergonomic compared to a drop bar. (also get riser bar brake levers)

    • @addvurtbikes
      @addvurtbikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You know, I really want to do that! I have a steel frame that is my more comfortable ride where I have a lower gear ratio, it would be nice with a riser bar on it to get really comfy!

    I don't even ride a fixie and a toeclip with straps has been a godsend, I can use a spinning motion to both get more power and to rest some of my muscles but it's teriffying when youre in traffic and you can't get it on.

    • @addvurtbikes
      @addvurtbikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, absolutely wonderful! But does your pedals spin so the stuff hangs under? Mine actually don’t spin all that freely so I can wait for them to be on the upside :D

    • @CamelliaSinensis
      @CamelliaSinensis ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@addvurtbikes I mean when the leather strap is touching the crank it usually stays up but yeah it hangs upside down most of the time, I'm much better at getting it on quickly and traffic in Sweden is pretty safe compared to eastern Europe so I usually feel confident :)

    I am thinking about getting pedal straps, not on a fixie, but on a bike with coaster brake, so it's very similar. I have 2 questions and would appreciate answers from the community:
    1.) Do pedal straps touch the ground when I don't bike with my feet strapped-in? I actually want to use the straps only for cycling uphill, the rest of the time I would prefer to have my feet free
    2.) Do people sense significant facilitation when cycling uphill while strapped-in?
    3.) I am a bit afraid of the straps, because of not being able to take out my feet on time when stopping and hence falling over. Am I just making this up in my head?
    thx for answers!

    • @addvurtbikes
      @addvurtbikes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! Good questions. I’ll start with the easiest, if straps help a lot uphill. Yes, very much, because you can pull up full force with one leg and just rest your entire body weight on the one going down. Huge difference.
      About the ground touch when hanging under, it is likely that it will touch the ground at least if you are pedalling while leaning in a turn. If you have a road bike, your bottom bracket sits lower than on a fixie so it’s more likely. But since you can coast you probably won’t pedal while turning anyways.
      And also, I don’t think you have to worry about this because once you start practicing with straps, you will want to be strapped in at all times. I used to be scared of foot retention before I tried it, but it’s not scary when you are used to it. It makes riding better at all times.

  • @h1hellobye
    @h1hellobye ปีที่แล้ว +2

    to be honest i don't understand why not have a freewheel if you already got both front and rear brakes so that you don't have to lock up your rear wheel skidding + wearing out the rubber in the same spot over and over again

    • @addvurtbikes
      @addvurtbikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      I ride fixed because it is more fun to me, but having handbrakes is like a backup system :)

      @h1hellobye ปีที่แล้ว

      @@addvurtbikes i kinda get it, but the thing that stops me is when i imagine going down the steep hill on a fix or taking sharp turns

    • @addvurtbikes
      @addvurtbikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@h1hellobye totally understandable concerns. I have no problems with pedal strikes, but I guess I don't take super sharp turns. as for riding downhill, if you are worried about braking power, just have backup handbrakes. if you are worried about your pedals spinning too fast, then you just have to practice that, or use a higher gear ratio, or slow down :) I think riding downhill is the most boring part about freewheels, I miss being able to control my speed without using the hands.

    Jag har en single speed gravel bike, med frihjul. Cykeln levererades med remmar av samma märke som pedalerna (Wellgo). Enda sättet jag har kommit på att montera dem är med hjälp av buntband. Och nu när de sitter kan jag inte få dem att passa riktigt. Min fråga är: hur får man fast fötterna snabbt utan att frirulla? Jag har inte haft problem med SPD, förutom att det är bökigt att byta skor när jag kommer fram.

    • @addvurtbikes
      @addvurtbikes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mina pedaler spinner inte på sin axel när jag trampar, så jag väntar till remmen är uppåt, och försöker få in tårna lite bara, sen vickar jag foten framåt mer och mer. Om man har pedaler som spinner så att remmen alltid hänger neråt, brukar det funka för att sätta fram och vinkla upp tårna framför remmen när där är överst, så att den åker ner över foten. :)

    • @addvurtbikes
      @addvurtbikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, getting your second foot strapped in needs practice. When your cranks are spinning, does the weight of the strap make the pedal rotate so that the strap is always down?

      My technique for that is to put my foot under the hanging strap when the pedal is at its highest. I point my toes upwards in front of the strap, so that when the pedal is coming down, the strap just slides down on my foot, and then I adjust for a couple of rotations until it feels good. does that make sense?

If your straps always hang under the pedal, try to place your toes in front and under that straps when the pedal is at its top, point your toes upwards and hope that they slip into the strap. If your straps doesn’t always hang under, but goes around as your crank spins, just wait for the place where it’s on top and kick your foot in
