It actually did use the turn signal when changing lanes to the left. It was brief, but it did turn on the blinker and repeater camera.

On the highway, when passing a travel-lane vehicle in the passing lane with third car close behind me, Ego will often start moving back into the travel lane too soon, which can really be a problem with big trucks. Also, lane changing to the left is absolutely smooth, but lane change to the right tends to swing wide and I have to correct back to the center of the lane. Finally, merging on is often much later than I prefer (often all the way to the end of the turn merge lane), and occasionally FSD will ignore my turn-signaled requests to change lanes. V12.3.6. Really looking forward to V12.5.x when we'll again have One Stack to Rule Them All.
Mapping is terrible. Today for some reason it took me through a weird side streets with potholes. It never did that before. It followed the same route for months. Now it changed. It would be good to have saved trips that you set yourself.

At 11:50. The car is not changing lanes because there is a solid white line. It would be illegal.
At 3:04 you complain that sometimes cars will turn left out of the right lane, but the road is clearly marked for that to also be a left turn lane. I don't know why you would complain about someone following the rules of the road.

I want FSD to allow me to modify routes as a local. I hate not being able to select alternate routes. I’ve turned FSD off between home and work for this reason.
I am guessing long distance trucking companies will go FSD in a big way especially on depot to depot travel (typically between big cities).

I typically force lane changes by using directionals especially when clogging the left lane.
I wonder if, when FSD is finally approved to drive itself, if passengers will fret over how perfectly it drives. Won’t we just get in the car and let it drive? Do we nag at a taxi driver when he does things differently than we would?
FSD 12.3.6. Be careful when using FSD in a parking lot where there are low 6 inch high curbs, forming islands. My model three made in an abrupt turn and drove into the curb, crushing the frame below the right rear passenger door. This happened so fast I couldn’t interrupt it in time even though the car was only traveling a few miles an hour. It was already so close to the curb that when the car made its move, the event occurred in an instant.
I had two problems today. One problem I keep having, at 'T' intersections FSD gets confused when there is more than one lane. The steering goes left-right-left-right-left-right trying to figure out what lane it should be in. I have to take control every time. Today FSD entered an expressway perfectly on the left but had to cross 4 lanes to the right-lane (fairly quickly) to access an alternate route. It missed the exit and then tried to move over to the right-lane which was wrong at that point and I had to take control. Mostly it's great and amazing. But, it's definitely not ready for robo taxi.
I like that you are realy honest, to say what Full self driving is doing wright and wrong.
Another annoying problem is when FSD makes a left hand turn and you have to make a right in a half mile, FSD will stay in the left lane with no cars in the right lane rather than immediately get in the right hand lane after the left turn is made with no other cars in sight. It also slowed down in a school zone to 20 MPH rather than continue at 40 MPH even though school was not in session or the lights on the sign blinking.
It may do these things in some places but I have experienced the car changing lanes very quickly after turns in most places
I’ve taken over before when I thought FSD was in the wrong lane and I thought I might miss my turn and felt silly when it turned out that FSD was in the correct lane after all. I’d say half my interventions while driving with FSD was me being a crappy supervisor 🤡

In Greenville, SC 12.3.6 is a net step backwards. Inconsistency is the biggest change. It makes predicting failures difficult. Double stops at most stop signs. Many speed limit errors (high and low). Speeds in active school zones and on entering residential communities. Unnecessarily crosses double yellow lines. Unpredictable agressive accelerations. Frequent lane changes without signaling. During unprotected left > right turns, occasionally creeps into and stops in active traffic lane forcing cars in lane to move left to avoid the nose of the car and/or hesitates in the active traffic lane before completing the turn.
Autosteer appears to merge left for slower traffic more frequently (esp. close to pending exits in slow and heavy traffic).
Parking is improved. Still need to leave FSD to activate.

I think I’ve disengaged FSD mostly because of the fear of curb rash. Most of the time the car may have corrected itself but not going to find out. 😅
I hope that at some point, Tesla takes either the data it gathers or the data from the various mapping services, like Google, and creates its own map. One that can be updated on the fly with data about construction, congestion, pot holes, etc. One that does a better job of handling speed limits. Perhaps can learn parking lots and apartment complexes - both of which will be necessary for cybercab and better delivery services.
Wow. For me, 12.3.6 never goes past the stop sign (like @ 1:29). It stops way before the sign, pauses, then pulls up to the intersection and stops again... I'm sure it pisses people off, and could eventually lead to being rear-ended. For me, 12.3.6 is a mixed bag. Somedays it seems great, and other days it gets stupid far too often.
At some point highways will be autonomous only. Probably some cities will do this too.

With all respect, from what I have seen from your FSD videos... Even if the software behaved like a scene from "Fast And Furious", it would not be aggressive enough for you.
I really like my new model Y. I watch a lot of videos talking how great FSD is. Up here in Spokane I definitely don’t see those great results. I subscribe and use it daily but intervene quite often. Some are extremely unsafe. I can’t imagine a taxi running with this due to all the constraints like fair weather only including nighttime issues. I believe they will wind up needing LIDAR to actually make this work full time reliable.
24.13 not exactly, one good thing about that chain delay is that cars naturally space out a little as they speed up. Without that spacing out, if one car suddenly stopped, the following cars might not have enough time to stop, you could conceivably damage multiple cars.
I went from V12.3.4 to .6 never had .5.
Tesla really needs to sort out the mapping / route planning. Thank you for sharing John.
Your "issues" with FSD are really just your preferences, not safe driving prioritized decision making. That makes your FSD drives more frustrating than actually just letting FSD drive it's way. Spoiler Alert, your preferences for routes and driving style are NOT determinate factors for FSD. 🙂
You know when you were in the school parking lot and that were a video game, I could have navigated that with a joystick. So this is not good testimony for FSD.
You have done a great job exposing and demoing this because it is continuous and gives me a temporal perspective. Good job.
Just thought of something, wouldn't it be cool to have a video game that would allow you to navigate with the generated image and then compare your experience with FSD. Then you could play it back and compare how it did with how you would have driven it.
They've got just the luddite about the power assisted steering (we call it servo steering), they thought the wheel would just yank out of the hands and there you go into the hedge.
33:44 suggestion for removing stains from white seats: Get the (default) black seat option.
Depending on if u set the driving speed to auto then FSD will deside what spped is appropriate, up to the speed limit.
So you will never know until it decides to drive at the speed limit, if it actually knows that the limit is 50.
So just set the speeding setting to the speed limit and then u will know it FSD understands that the stretch of road u were on has a limit of 50.
Too much background knows can't here when you're driving

I don't think the car should slow down on the freeway before taking the exit if you slow down then the car behind you has to slow down and then the car behind them has to and before long you have a long back up because somebody slowed down on the freeway. The car needs to maintain freeway speed until it's out of the way of the other cars just like when you enter the freeway you need to be going just as fast as everybody else that is on the freeway.

So watching yours is a waste of time, since I know without watching it will only be a critique of the ways in which it doesn’t drive the way you do. So I won’t watch it. It is irrelevant. Show us how 12.4 performs before the end of this week, and you will have my interest.

Tesla doesn’t use Google for navigation. They use openstreetmap and I think another one and do it in house.
