    It's surreal seeing film from 75 years ago in colour. The quality is so good it looks like yesterday.

    I enjoyed this a lot. I served in West Berlin in 80s/90s.
    If I can share a tale.
    I knew an old man in UK who was part of Liberation force in Berlin. We shared many stories. But the 1 sticks in my mind. He befriended a lady who lived in or around Unter den linden. He used 2 visit her & take her family food & other things. He fell 4 her & she him.
    He arranged 2 meet her one nite but at last min his unit was moved westward. He didn't see her again. Decades on he still spoke of her. Her name was Rosa

      Liberation? Defeating force to be honest. The later outcome was very good. No argue about that. But we had been enemy country and you are not liberating your enemies. No offence. Just to be cristal clear. ;-)

    Germany and its people are a unique country...By 1938 they were Europe's capital by far...by 1945 they were in ruins as never before...yet 10 years later they were back on their two feet again growing stronger and stronger...By 1990, when the reunification, they became again Europe's n1º country, and without firing a single shot they have the final word in Europe ! Only them can achieve such a deed !

      hey sugar -- there is only one reason all of germany did not go to the USSR-- its the same reason japan had fast recovery and became the second riches country on the planet--- also maybe you didn't know the people in east germany were germans too --- you probably think it was germany that brought down wall and ended communism. It took 40 years and trillions of dollars at no cost to germany and was left a free country for 40 years--- couldnt be happier about germanys success but show some fucking gratitude-- russia could come in today and you couldn't do shit except for the same reason

      Rick Stuifzand how can one go to war against a continent, sorry? "I declare war to Oceania!" Hahaha same thing. Please. Think less about war, and study more, we need the most powerful country in the world to be less ignorant, probably if you'd know more, you'd bomb less. ;)

      The fact that even when it was split in two, that West Germany had Europes largest economy and East Germany had eastern Europes largest economy (Other than USSR) shows how hard working they are as a nation.

    Thanks for this truly HD version! Why is old footage played in accelerated Speed? There is no need, modern software can easily render a realistic speed.

    • @mytube001
      @mytube001 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, annoying, but in this case, setting playback speed to 0.75 works really well.

    • @mytube001
      @mytube001 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this was filmed at around 18 FPS, which makes 0.72 the optimal frame rate. 0.75 is close, but slightly too fast still.

    • @mytube001
      @mytube001 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      At least one sequence, the one with a group of soldiers walking past close to the camera, was shot at (probably) 24 FPS.

      Saira Babar
      People are pretty similar everywhere. They can be persuaded for good or evil. From 1866-1945, the Germans fell under a series of leaders who believed in various types of military or even racial ideas of "prestige" being the key to survival. The inevitable results of this are clearly shown in this video.
      However, 30 years earlier, the British and other European nations had had far too similar ideas and quite a few of the same tactics. What the Belgians did in the Congo or what we did in Australia was akin to what the Nazis did in plain sight in Europe. It's just we didn't attack Moscow, decimate white-skinned ethnic groups or take copious records and film of what we did to the "natives" where we went- so nobody gave a toss. The Americans OTOH didn't even leave the USA to start acting like Nazis towards their black population.

      Germs are really cool creatures. I am a German who lived in and does love the US. Still. As I think you can always find something lovable if you can overcome the sensationalism in your mind. Just relax...

      Korrekt. Nach dem Krieg wurde mehr historische Bausubstanz von schwachsinnigen Neudeutschen-Modernisten und stumpfinnigen Politikern zerstört, als vorher durch Bomben. West-Berlin z.B., ein maßgeblicher Verbecher war der Gauner und Bausenator Rolf Schwedler.

    I don't think this is 1945? Maybe 1946-47. The city has been cleaned up pretty good for having been bombed into rubble. Also, why is an American Captain holding a pass with a Lt. Colonel's name on it? It was dated 1945, maybe that's why this video is titled 1945?....Just some observations.

    Despite the seriousness of these people's situation(s) at the end of the war it always amazes and even amuses me that so many of these mittle-klass, good Zzermans who are pushing around wooden carts piled with belongings, or shouldering heavy loads in packs, are yet still well dressed -- many of the men in jackets and ties and the women in nice dresses and hard shoes! The concern for bourgeois respectability may well be one of the last things to die in the aftermath of a war.
