This conversation is a prime example of why folks have such a low opinion of car salesmen.
Why cuz they want to make more than a McDonald’s worker???
If you go to a corporate dealer, and say no to all the bullshit add ons. Salesman gets 100 bucks sooo with taxes 60-70.
These fools are the worst. I’m an ex salesman. It’s honestly a fun job but the managers 9-10 times are dicks hahahahah
The family dealerships are chillin for the wages. You can make 1,000 easily on some used ones. F150 you can get 400 easy for a new one.
I always looked out for the customer, but after most customers are like these guys. Let me get the out the door number so I can just go to the dealer down the street so they can beat it by $1 a month. Ya waste your gas for 12 bucks a year losers. Kinda makes you think you shouldn’t be buy new. Buy used so the salesman makes more (usually) and your not paying the heavy (new) cost.
@@ugabuga1361 oooohhh poor salesman!! Waaaaahhhh
@@ugabuga1361 You're the reason why people go to the salesman down the street. I wouldn't give a dick like you any of my money.
@@ugabuga1361you agree the add ons are bullcrap but yet you want us to pay for them? Yup you definitely fall into the category this guy is talking about 😂
For good reason.
Another awesome video! Thank you. Only go to a dealership to sign the agreed upon out the door price you got via email. And if they increase the price $1 when you get to the dealership, leave immediately
Love your style of acting the scenarios out and then explaining. It’s so easy to absorb and learn the information in a real life situation
You guys are the best! I am gaining a lot of confidence before I walk in the dealership.
Like when Ray he said WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE HOW MUCH I PUT DOWN ? ! That was great !
Mazda years ago - they just wanted $2000 to hold onto for the term of the loan to give a lower interest rate. It was a mind bender that I did not like being tossed into the conversation as it got my attention but eventually - I shook my head and said, I do not want to talk about that right now. Back then - it was not as nice as the Mazda 3 but shoot it was exactly - $2000 I do not have to give someone for like 4 or 5 years PLUS $10,000 less - and I was back into another Dodge Neon.
These plans (Maintenance, Warranty) you have to ask which company is it? Then you have to research those companies. My daughter has a maintenance plan, she has to make a copy of the contract and show it to the service advisor because of course they are "unable to look it up" and this is just to get an oil change.
I bought my car a little over a year ago and this channel helped me negotiate a great chunk of money off the out the door price, thank you guys.
The role play really drives home your points 👍
Ray and Zach - You guys never fail to entertain and inform.
I have had to walk out of several dealers because they absolutely would not tell me the price of the car. They only wanted to talk monthly payments. They watched me walk out after a test drive because they absolutely wouldn’t tell me the price. My credit rating is normally over 820 so I am a highly desirable customer
Not desirable for loan sharks :-)
Actually with a credit score over 800 you are not necessarily a "highly desirable customer." You are an easy customer to get approved should you need an auto loan. But, typically, people with high credit scores do not present a good candidate for the dealer to earn huge profit on the back end, the F&I office.
People with top credit scores typically understand financing and they are not easily duped by the dealer F&I manager into accepting a bumped interest rate and/or grossly overpriced F&I products of dubious value.
Your story of the dealer not providing a price reminds of an incident many years ago. I helped my father buy a new vehicle in the 1990s. He always bought Chevys so we went to the local Chevy dealer. The sales guy would not provide a price until my dad agreed to buy the vehicle. We walked away.
I convinced my dad to look at a Japanese brand. He bought a 1990s Maxima and loved it. For the next 30 years, he never ever bought another GM vehicle. He only bought Toyota and Honda.
Ray is dead on with the "majority of our customers pick the Platinum plan:" When you say no to everything you get the "don't you care about your car? What happens in 3 years and a 1 day when something fails" and I respond with "I see you don't trust the quality of your own vehicle, so why should I continue with this purchase? You are worrying me about the build quality." For info: the platinum plan offered me was $350/mo more (about $11k in markups from the base loan). After a couple rounds of attempts the $3800 extended warranty dropped to $1700... I wonder what it was really worth?
Last car I bought the finance guy was livid that I wouldn’t buy the extended warranty. Right after he told me he personally has 3 leased vehicles. He asked me why I’m living life on the edge. I then paid for the car in full and reminded him that not everyone is as gullible as he is.
The sales tax adjustment can be done with the dealer trade, or the same adjustment when sold to an individual. It just has to be done within usually 30 days before or after buying a new car. Or, a used car purchase, it works the same.
If I ask for an out the door price, and the salesman comes back to me with anything other than wha to asked for…I’m the one who is “out the door.”
Your videos are great. Maybe you have already done this, could you make a video on how to negotiate buying a new vehicle you personally ordered and pay under dealer invoice? Thanks
God, this s*** wears me out. I despise dealers. Great video and totally true and great negotiation being shown but it's all so adversarial.
Finance is just as worse. Despise them
These are the best type of your videos. Ty!
But, What is the OTD for Delete Me?
Out the door price
@@Charles-1920I think his comment went over your head
Thanks John. I appreciate the attention to our military service history. Incredible photo.
Thank you! Helpful gems.
I chanced across a one owner 2009 Ford Ranger that has not been in any accidents and the asking price from a private owner is $12,500. The vehicle has a clean title and appears to have been garage kept with great tires, clean fluids and a little under 47,000 original miles. Does this sound like a good deal?
How much should I try to get the OTD price? Somewhere between invoice and MSRP?
This is one of their most informative video that I’ve seen them do. Thank you for breaking it down for us.
These videos are incredible
I don't have the patience for this. I'd start in with wisecracks escalating to snarky comments, to rudeness. All the while wanting to slap the smirk off the salesman's face.
My gosh. You aren't related to the Schaal family, are you? Listening to you is like listening to my uncle, who is the wisest man that I ever knew!
Are there any strategies when it comes to leasing a vehicle?
Monitor your local dealers lease deals. Go in knowing what you want and what you are willing to accept. Don't be afraid to suggest that you will go to another dealership to get the deal you want. Don't accept any additional add-ons. Don't be afraid to walk away. Don't accept any excuses.
I have leased many new vehicles. Leasing is actually very simple.
To a new car dealer a lease is a sale. It is a sale to the leasing company at the price you negotiate. New car dealers do not lease vehicles. They are not in the business of financing.
When you lease negotiate the price (capitalized cost on a lease) exactly as you would if you were purchasing the vehicle. If you do not, you will make a bad lease.
When you lease do not accept any fee, other than the acquisition fee which is not a dealer fee, which is taxed. If the fee is taxed it is a fake dealer fee.
The price (capitalized cost) for a lease is fully negotiable.
The residual value on a lease is not negotiable. It is set by the manufacturer.
The money factor is essentially the interest rate. It is the interest rate divided by 2,400. So an interest rate of 5 percent is a money factor of .00208 (5/2400). Make sure the F&I manager does not bump the rate, demand the buy rate which is the rate the leasing company sets for you.
Go on-line and learn how to compute a lease payment. It is simple and knowing the simple math will help ensure you are not scammed by a dealer.
Love this video.
Thanks for this!
Really great video 👏 👏 👏
This video should be required viewing for anyone buying a car.
THANK YOU
"gotcha toyota" 😆
As a consumer 100% ZFG the 'dealers' business sustainability or maximizing their profit margins - its a numbers game to them and bottomline 'units' can be defined by vehicles OR buyers ... $$$ is ALL that matters to them, we the consumer, are simply the obstacle
The buyer should tell to the salesperson “ if the manager makes the decision, why I am wasting my time talking to you?”
I have a used auto where I am upside down by $4k. A friend suggested I take advantage of the rebates/incentives right now at dealerships for something newer and work them down the otd price but not give a D.P. but I don't think that can work to offset the price with the dealers and banks, Right?
Do these rules work with certified pre owned vehicles as well?
Yes. ALL used vehicles.
@ thank you.
"gotcha toyota" 😂
How do you negotiate a deal on a new ordered car or do you lose bargaining power, any help thanks
Same way, a little less bottom line discount
@@Mark-rt6fy thank you
This whole exchange is why I decided to stop buying vehicles from dealerships altogether😂
I was going to comment something similar. I would have walked out. I loose trust when sneaky language is being used
Yo u ain't lying this shit ridiculous
Is this the same for used cars?
Yes!!!
For sure
What if you are paying for the vehicle in cash with no financing?
Buying a car is universally one of the most negative experiences there is. It’s uncomfortable, difficult and adversarial. I’d honestly prefer a root canal over going to a car dealership to purchase a vehicle.
Oh I tell them all the factors how I want them I want my monthly here I want no down payment I want to pay this much for the vehicle I want this long of a lease or loan with this amount of miles I know what a good deal is if they come back with anything other than what I requested I leave immediately I'm not going to spend more than 30 mins in a dealer. Gotta assert dominance🤷🏻♂️
Having purchased/leased over 30 vehicles over the years I always recommend answering all car sales people's questions. Just answer them in a manner to help you and to throw the sales person off his or her game, in a manner to remove control from them.
but what if there is a different price for financing vs buying outright
...welcome to the point...
I slipped up once and said I'd like 3500 from my trade in. Its worth twice that amount but I'd be ok with 3500. Guy goes off manager comes back says I have a deal you would be happy with shows everything I looked at him and said nah I'm not happy have a good day and walked out. Only offered 2000 for trade in and everything else was garbage.
📣📣THANK YOUUUUUU FOR ACTING THIS OUT🩷🩷👏🏾👏🏾💙💙🥰🥰📣📣
Brilliant
I would never buy any "plan." Tires; engine, oil change, yada yada, and here's why. If that dealership closes or if someone else buys it and slaps a new name on it. They don't have to and won't honor any "plan" you had with the previous named dealership.
Be cool if your site wasnt peddling 1000 dollar concierge packages, and 40 dollars to see an invoice price, it would be an awesome site.
Zach is too accommodating for a real world scenario
Besides selling you a car, dealerships try to sell you a monthly payment.
Gotcha Toyota LMAO
Before test driving any car, get the full price first and save hours of wasted time.
When they try to ask my monthly payment, I just pull the veil off entirely to reveal I know about their stupid finance tricks.
Clickbait-free title! Thank you.
Can we get a bad credit buying 2024
What about $ 200 a month?
Super easy with the right down payment lol
I lease and tell them I want the same monthly payment. I've been paying $250.00/month for four cars and 12 years.
Recently started a three year lease on a Hyundai Ioniq 5 for that amount.
How much is the average monthly payment?? 750.00 ??? Not for me. 😎
Would any dealer seriously cooperate after I answer none of their questions?
Who cares. Just answer the questions in a manner which you choose. A smart car buyers knows how to use those questions to benefit them. For example:
How much do you want to pay a month? Say $100.
How long do you plan to keep the vehicle? Say the length of the manufacturer's warranty, three or four years.
Where do you park the vehicle? In a garage, whether or not you have a garage.
How much do you plan to put down as a down payment? Not important, I will decide if I get my price.
What is your credit? Not an issue for me.
Who the hell good to a car dealer and is asking about monthly payments
Disagree. I’ll go into a BMW dealership and say I want a new 750iL for $200 a month. We take it from there.
Seems like such a hassle just to buy a car 😂
Understand these guys have a vested interest in making people think the process of buying a vehicle is a hassle. They want people to pay them for their services.
For those of us who understand the process and understand financing buying a car is time consuming but not a hassle.
wow i feel like YOU were tryin to sell me stuff the entire video. cheats and edges and whatever all that crap is... anyways, as a euro dealer tech of 22 yrs.. NEVER. EVER. finance an ext warranty on a toyota, honda, or other highly reliable vehicle. you are betting a losing hand. if you really want an extended warranty buy one cash in a separate transaction from a separate source. also NEVER buy maintenance plans for a new or really any vehicle from a dealer. you are payin 3x the cost in the end after financing interest is added on and the techs at those dealer svc shops do NOT treat the pre-paid svcs the same as they do the cash paid or walk-in customer pay services. the dealer pays them less so they do less and you are not getting the value you think you are. anyone tells you otherwise they are lying to you.
why are so many bots commenting on this vid? lol
Sure just say i want the $45000 car $250 a month.
That doesn’t work.
Hi guys, I love your videos but I have to tell you that I just left a Mazda dealership in Montreal, Canada and was surprised that there was none of the BS that you describe happened. I am a cash buyer and didn't hide it and they didn't flinch. They worked with me and tried their best to stay within my budget. I even got 4 winter tires at half price. US dealers are crooks. I'm sorry to say that because I was born there. The culture is so different between the two countries.
What is all this "let me talk to my manager" garbage?
Just the sales game. The reality is no one should ever buy a vehicle from a dealer without getting the sales manager involved. Car sales people are merely middle men between the customer and the sales manager. If a buyer does not get the sales manager involved in some manner, the buyer almost assuredly paid too much.
Don't tell me what to do
That’s why I always lease all my cars, I’m not buying them . I am buying them out after the lease ends . as a used car manager for Infiniti I have no patience and I have no time to shoot shit back-and-forth for 5 to 8 hours I call Broker And he delivers my new car to my house end of story. I’ve been doing is the last 20 years
So you actually do buy them. When you lease and buy at the end of the lease you are buying.
Of course, every time you lease you pay an acquisition fee which means you end up paying more when you lease and buy out than you would pay if you bought.
And you are also paying a broker to do something anyone can do with little effort. Particularly someone who is a "used car manager."
