I'm blown away by the quality of your interviews Aaron! You're guests are fantastic and the depth of discussion really puts your journalism on a level far beyond what we get from any of the mainstream sources available. An inspiring example of the kind of media landscape we should be building. Huge thanks and appreciation. Thanks to Alex too for an enlightening discourse, what an incredible scholar!
Utterly fabulous! I put Bastani Factor on to get some education while houseworking. But this time? I could hardly do much for wanting not to miss a snippet! Had to pause it a lot just to get my own cleaning done! Wonderful, fellas! Big appreciation! More please!
I know what you mean. It's like listening to pearls of wisdom from one of your grandparents, only to miss the bit where they let out the secret that you were adopted because your mind lost attention for a moment. I think in summary though 'Classical Liberal' = Humpty Dumpty = Sargon of Akkad = Gudetama.
Wow, what an incredible interview, the level of scholarship on show here is awe inspiring! Particularly impressive to see an American with such a deep understanding of modern British history. Fantastic stuff Novara
TBF always excellent but this is a real stand-out. What an erudite guest, so impressed with this interview. Thank you so much Aaron for bringing this to us.
This is a fantastic interview Aaron, really insightful and dense. Can I recommend a few people to interview after TWT? All psychologists: Jonathan Haidt - Author of "The Righteous Mind"; A prominent voice in moral psychology and understanding how people of different political persuasions have different moral priorities (See: Moral Foundations Theory). Paul Gilbert - Author of "The Compassionate Mind"; Great writer about positive psychology/mindfulness who's book had great criticism of capitalism of being against human needs. Gabor Mate - Canadian Psychiatrist specialising in addiction; has really good critiques of current affairs and treatment of indigenous Canadians.
I would just like to say that speaking as a slightly older woman who grew up obsessed with politics it's great how you hardly ever have on anyone over the age of 50. Before you came along it really seemed like nearly all political commentators and experts were old white men, and occasionally old white women. You'd still think that, looking at today's MSM unless they want to discuss how wokeness is out of control. Before I started boycotting the BBC after the GE last year I was getting so tired of only hearing old white men and middle aged women stuck in the past when analysing societies ills on Radio 4. Honestly, there was one program where a woman was going on about how we shouldn't used the word "mansplaining" because it was terribly upsetting for the poor insecure teenage boys, and some man actually spent half an hour telling us that women really don't have that much of a sex drive, and went on about "Lesbian bed death" as evidence. Why did we even need a program about that? Radio 4 was just getting more and more stuck in the past as far as I could see. And isn't getting any better from what I keep seeing of the BBC generally. So yes, nice to see young well informed people discussing political issues and it's just what you do, not something you make a big thing of.
C'mon Aaron I can forgive Alexander for incorrect pronunciation of Elgin & Palmerston. 37:10. However not your mistakes with Apogee & Laissez Faire. Apogee is not French and Laissez is !
All in all, very good! Only one clarification, Spain NEWER has Civil War, that is the terms of language, the fascists' propaganda wants to have;l Spain had a Coup de state, very much in the line of the Bolivian one but in Spain, in 1936, not all the army was disfavour of what Franco did and that made the war but it wasn't civi;.
I see the Economist quoted Aaron Bastani in an article on the Labour left in their 22-28august edition; 'The left is "still numerically strong...institutionally it is quite weak", says Aaron Bastani, co-founder of Novara media, a socialist news site.'
The titles of these interview episodes are always the title or subtitle of the book in question. So the title here is actually "Liberalism at Large: The World According to the Economist". I imagine if you just copy and paste the title of these videos into a search engine you will find the books quickly (just tried this - yes it works).
The only contact I've ever endured with this particular shitrag is watching it's former editor, Bill Emmott on television, contemptuously talk down anyone who had the impertinence to suggest that invading Iraq might not be a good idea. Pompous, condescending entitlement personified.
The irony being that the Economist ended up retracting their support for the Iraq War and eventually expressing a mea culpa for having been so gung ho about it

Brilliant interview! Zevin is lucid and fantastically erudite on this important issue - which is in effect, the nature of historical liberalism. .

Great call, Aaron, fascinating , brilliant scholar.
Fascinating. Can't help but think about Michael Brooks role in internationalism and coverage though :(

Incredible interview. Great guest!
The Economist reflects M. I. 6’s opinion, in my opinion.
Justinian Deception - Hidden System - Dog Latin - Magna Carta
Zevin is amazing
Thanks for a wonderfully informative and enjoyable conversation!
Excellent! Really informative and entertaining!
Fascinating, be interesting to see an editorial response to this book / interview from the Economist. Great work

@And so 1, lots of people voted for Jeremy Corbyn, just not enough, 2, how is this a relevant answer to my initial comment?
Thoroughly enjoyable
Nice to mention Diplo.

You’re showing your youth, Charles Kennedy was never known as Charlie Kennedy
Why would you assume it's anything other than Aaron's own phrasing/mode of expression?
