I enjoyed.
It's a wonderful discovery for me to hear that rare and happy combination of instruments, this wonderful piece is so well served by that combination ! Thanks a lot for having playing it ! I like very much the sound produced by the piano, so well chanting !
@bill Bloggs Franck wrote this piece for piano and harmonium originally himself, then later transcribed it for organ. It's not a stretch to imagine he'd have agreed to transcribe it for piano as well. Bach transcribed pieces between instruments with great freedom and frequency, as you probably know. Each piece on each instrument is its own piece and has its merits to be played on it, unless wildly unsuited to it. I play the piano, not the organ. I don't have access to an organ. Why should I care about the organ version? Yes, it's the original, so it's somewhat important to know the composer's intent as to what it should sound like. For me as a pianist, the only question is if it's a good piano piece, even as a transcription. For now, i won't be able to play it on an organ anyways. I'll guess that organ is your favourite instrument, at least for this piece, so i can understand that you would want to share that with others. But everyone plays and likes different instruments, and you can't play or study all of them.
this is the original setting by Franck for this work....he transcribed it for the organ...Franck was serious about the harmonium and he published two books :L'Organiste, volume 1 and 2 for the harmonium...or the organ. Joris Verdin recorded them.,..exquisite...
@yyjchou You can purchase the score from Durand et Cie. in Paris. I think Joris Verdin is also selling his own typeset copies of the piece. Just google his website ;-)
I only know where you can buy a recording by Joris Verdin and Jos Immerseel. You can buy the album in Belgium: fugalibera . com You can "Google" the name of the artists to try to contact them.
My initial introduction to this work was on the old Command label LP, performed as a duo piano piece. I think one of the performers was named Steinberg, but I'm not certain. Can anyone help me to identify the performers?
Hello friend, Did you already find the score for this Franck for Harmonium and Piano ? If not I can help you. I have a pdf copy. Just send me a message, then I will send you a copy. Regards from sunny Brazil. Dib
The pianist played with such self-serving importance as to drown out the harmonium with arpeggiated chords. His big fat fingers probably don't know what "delicate" means. He could have had the piano's lid down, but no, he's too important.
you're just a non-emphatic guy with a sublimation-disorder or/ and an alcoholic. That's probably one of the reasons why you're partner left you. Try to listen to the music instead of watching and you will understand.
It is fascinating to hear Franck's exquisite contrapuntal masterpiece for organ in his version for harmonium and piano.
That chord at 3:11 has to be one of the most dramatic and beautiful ever written. This is so beautiful. Well done!

Schattig
What a wonderful combination.I just love thte sound of the harmonium !I grew up and sang in a church that still used a harmoniun.
I do but sometimes reminds me of pugwash
Every time I listen to this, it gives me the chills...
The melody on the harmonium gets under my skin.
I have heard this exquisite piece played at Ste Clothilde. Played in three parst during Mass. One of my most incredible musical experiences ever.
Maravillosa composición del maestro Cesar Franck. Muchas gracias.

interesting...and very well plaied, beautiful cantabile, I really enjoied it...bravi!!
Heel apart en mooie originele uitvoering.
Masterpiece.
oh right, i only knew the solo piano version. this sounds gorgeous!
@bill Bloggs well, in the 9 years since my original comment, i've indeed gotten to know the organ version as well ;)

Indeed, the grand piano in this videoclip is a modern Bechstein, on the cd-recording Jos has been playing on a period "piano Érard".
Very nicely done.. nice to hear the way it was written to be played even if I am an organist.
Joris Verdin and Jos Immerseel recorded this piece.
You can buy the album in Belgium:

Interesting Frank's Chorale version; very good
Score is in IMSLP .. head to "FRANCK", then to the op.18 and you can see the listings of the arrangements of this piece.
Deels mee eens.
I don't know any details of this version. My father recorded this back in 1997.

I love this duet, I think it's sound better than at organversion from "6 Pièces".
A sweet moment I just passed. the original one, like the Verdin's one. Harmoniums are really dreamboxes, not just chamber or church instruments...

I didn't know it was written for piano and harmonium originally... Now I want to find the score... :-)

I have the score of the duet, I have the harmonium, but I don't have the piano and the pianist...
@yyjchou it is edited by Joris Verdin himself. Use google to find his "Artis Renatae Series" ;-)

Joris Verdin on harmonium and Arthur Schoonderwoord on piano.
@@ayishas4385 I was speaking of a duo piano piece.
I think there must be a pianist here on TH-cam. Maybe you can organize a audition like the TH-cam Symphony Orchestra!
I miss Han too, please let radio4or vpro hear this... Back to the olden days!
I have tried to find the duet score for many year, where can I buy a copy of it?

Melodia molto moderna

hardly anyone gets RUBATO, it's just sounds lazy .....but you guys hit it bang on the nail!!!! hugz
WHERE I CAN FIND THIS TRANSCRIPTION FOR PIANO DUO?
I did'nt know.
I did'nt know it. I always heard this work playd only on an organ ... Very good performance indeed !
I know that the harmonium is a legitimate, respected instrument, but I kept thinking of "Sous le ciel de Paris...", sorry.
Too bad the sound engeneer ruined it all by a mike too loud on the piano.
Loudness war is more concerning, the recording is just fine for general audience. Sound engineer ruining anything is maybe a bit extreme.
Well, you can focus on what you dislike, or enjoy what you do like.
To me, this is magical music.
It only sounds (very) good on piano, Bauer transcription.
What's with the prison issue clothes, the wig and fake glasses?

ouch, his playing is actually very delicate, just the tone of the particular piano comes across as ham-fisted, not the musician..
The problem is not the pianist but the sound engineer. I have the cd and it is perfect on it. It's on Amazon.
