You know I just found this piece and I'm falling in love with it almost as much as I do with Brahms, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who hears the parallels. For a Francophone composer who studied in Paris, there is a lot of German qualities in his music. This interpretation is also marvelous
Абсолютно согласна с выражением"красота за пределами этого мира" именно это ощущение у меня было при исполнении симфонических вариаций для фортепиано с оркестром. Обожаю Франка!!!

I am researching to write a piece on André Gide for a British Council 'Cities of Literature' commission. Gide loved and learnt to play this. I have listened to many versions here on TH-cam but this one captures the mood of how I imagine Gide playing this on piano. This version sounds the notes quite separately, with less Romanticism in the chords, I feel that this, slightly more Baroque rendition, would have been close to Gide's preferences.
Thank you for this brilliant analysis of this enormous master piece of music. As to the pianoforte recording, thank you for making it. It was very interesting hearing with what kind of instrument Beethoven had to struggle with. Sure, his compositions were to be executed on such instruments but I’m convinced that he would have been thrilled playing them on a modern piano. I believe that he must have been frustrated by the technical limitations of the instruments of his time. Beethoven’s genius is that he composed not for his time but for future generations.
Bravissimo !
What a beautiful piece, at the organ, like at the piano ! I am almost astonished that César Franck did not transcribe it himself for the piano, he was pianist too.
He actually may have. This piece exists in three versions, the original organ solo, this piano solo, and an organ/piano duo. The title is a bit misleading, as Lugansky did not transcribe this for piano, as I've heard this exact transcription performed by legends of the past.
@@erika6651 Franck arranged his original piece as a duo for piano and harmonium. In the early 1900s pianist Harold Bauer (1873-1951) transcribed it for piano solo very effectively, so much that this version is arguably better-known and more often performed than the original, and to my knowledge has not been supplanted by some other solo piano transcription of the piece. This is surely the version you have heard before and performed beautifully here by Lugansky.
One Cesar Franck's listener experience : one feels as if all his internal organs have vanished, to be replaced by the sea. Incredibly delicious or painful, it depends...
It is a little known fact that Franck's famous "Prelude, Fugue et Variation, Op.18", was originally written for harmonium & piano duo (1862). Franck then transcribed it for organ, and it was later re-transcribed for solo piano.

I enjoy it a bit more on the pipe organ, where it is certainly much easier to play; though the piano is equally beautiful, especially when performed by this Lugansky fellow!

i think Franck himself was in love when he wrote this.

Melancholy of Poulenc combined with Profundity of Brahms.. Beauty beyond this world...
