Glory of Barcelona and ARTS: for me Jose Carreras was a splendid performer, a natural beatiful voice, a deep heart when singing without a correct tecnique. Anyway one of the best singers of 20th century.

It's not that she's a bad Carmen. Just because someone's a mezzo doesn't mean they should automatically sing Carmen. Ms. Soffel was lyric mezzo who sang higher lying roles like Octavian, Giovanna Seymour, Rosina etc. Not the earthy we are used to hearing in this role. That being said, Mr. Carreras was a lyric tenor who sang with much passion, but roles like this and Cavaradossi/Calaf taxed his beautiful lyric instrument
Jose Carreras will always bring me back to this. His voice is both touching and magnificent, and he is just swoon-worthy.

I'm going to see Carmen in May coming up. It's my first opera ever at 17 years old. Pretty sure I'm going to cry. What beautiful masterpiece!
