Much of the lyrics are from Audie's 1947 poem Crosses Grow on Anzio. Audie Murphy played himself in the autobiographical movie To Hell and Back. His son thanked the band for the only non-C&W song about his father and gave then vintage movie poster of his movie.

      "The crosses grow on Anzio,"
Then, perhaps, his blue eyes wept,
      For the countless heartbreaks he had known;
      The secrets that he kept.
How could a nation duly honor him,
A youth too young to shave,
      And yet upon the battlefield,
      The bravest of the brave.
Young, perhaps, but more a man,
Than most men will ever be.
Who saw more sorrow than any youth,
      Should ever have to see.
      "The crosses grow on Anzio"
      Of friends passed on he wrote;
But they were gone and would never know,
      It was a hero's quote.
      "The crosses grow on Anzio"
Then, perhaps, his blue eyes wept,
For the countless friends that he had known,
Were friends in death who slept.
      Author: Audie Murphy

Sabaton does not glorify war, but they do spotlight the sacrifice, heroism, honor, and humanity of individuals and groups in the horrible cauldron of war. With Sabaton you get a free history lesson with every great metal song. Sabaton live concerts are amazing with awesome fan interaction. I recommend the live version of "40:1" or "Ghost Division" from the 2012 Polish Woodstock festival with 550000+ in attendance. Great reaction, keep rocking.

Welcome to the best way to learn history. Sabaton is a heavy metal band from Sweden and all of their songs, except 1 album, are about military history. It's important to say that they don't glorify war itself and they don't take sides- they simply tell stories. They also have their own history channel - Sabaton History - where a historian explains a historic background of each song (also worth of a reaction). I recommend their songs Bismarck, Christmas truce and Last Stand for start

Audie Murphy is the only man to be given every military award in WWII. At the end of WWI there was a man named Alvin York who was also given every military award at that time, and Sabaton did a song about him as well; it is called 82nd All the Way.

Sabaton has a great catalogue of songs that tell the story of multiple events in war, mostly the world wars and an album specific to Sweden’s involvement in the 30 years war. Every song is creatively written and played in a tone that matches the events of the story, for example “stormtroopers” and “ghost division” which sings about the blitzkrieg of Poland are fast pace and hard hitting to match the fast pace nature of the blitzkrieg.

    THE CROSSES GROW ON ANZIO
Oh, gather 'round me, comrades; and
    listen while I speak
Of a war, a war, a war where hell is
    six feet deep.
Along the shore, the cannons roar. Oh
    how can a soldier sleep?
The going's slow on Anzio. And hell is
    six feet deep.
Praise be to God for this captured sod that
    rich with blood does seep.
With yours and mine, like butchered
swine's; and hell is six feet deep.
    That death awaits there's no debate;
    no triumph will we reap.
The crosses grow on Anzio, where hell is
    six feet deep.

Audie Murphy had his experiences put into a book titled "To Hell and Back" with help from another writer. Murphy would later star in a movie based on the book, thus the scenes from the movie are in the video. Murphy was a Private when he first joined the Army and made a battlefield commissions up to First Lieutenant. He was a Major in the Texas National Guard. Unfortunately he died in a plane crash near Roanoke, Virginia in 1971.

You are right, Sabaton makes songs about war history. They are from Sweden and they have been around for more then 20 years. So they have a huge song collection. For the last few years they have been working with yarnhub, an animation film production firm. They explain their songs is a very fascinating way. There are a lot of songs I can recommend. Let's start with " no bullets fly". A very heartwarming story out of world war II. AND OF COURSE THE CHRISTMAS TRUCE. Easily one of the best songs and video in rock music ever made. Crosses grow on Anzio is a poem by Audie Murphy. Some of those war scenes are from the movie To Hell and Back starring Audie Murphy as himself. Anzio was a beachhead landing in Italy in WW II. Murphy entered the army at 17 and fought in North Africa, Italy, and Southern France. He held off 250 Germans. He was a sharecroppers kid from East Texas.

I am British and even i know Audie Murphy as he was my late mum's favourite film star. He starred as himself in the film TO HELL AND BACK also many films. My favourite film of his was THE RED BADGE OF COURAGE which he played a young Union soldier during the American Civil War. Audie Murphy is Captain America as he was an Amazing man who went through hell not only in WW2 but After with his PTSD. He died far too soon and too young. Sabaton met his son when they made this song about his dad Audie Murphy, his son loved the song by Sabaton about his dad and said that his dad would of loved it as it wasn't the usual country and Western song about him. Sabaton has a loooong list of history based music, it is kind of their theme, here is a short list
First , Sabaton videos are often have deductions and/or messages at the end, do watching to the end is frequently well worth it .
Animated STORY videos (short history lessons with music videos in them)
    No bullets fly
    Night witches
    Lady of the dark
    Red baron
    epic ones,
Bismark, about the sinking of the ship
    Defence of Moscow, self explained.
Christmas truce, about the spontaneous truce in some parts of the western front during Christmas 1914
40:1, about polish soldiers, badly outnumbered (just under 750 in all) facing 42 000 germans, they where BADLY outgunned desperately defending against the German invasion 1939
Uprising, the Warsaw Uprising during 1944.
To hell and back, they tell the story of Audie Murphy (highly decorated) and his struggle AFTER the war, so about PTSD and drug addiction that returning soldiers can face.
Fields of verdun, the 300+ day long battle fought there.
Screaming Eagles, about the battle of the bulge
    Live performance
    40:1 from poland
    Uprising from poland
En livstid I krig live from Göteborg Sweden (in Swedish but there are subtitles) , very heavy again, about thoughts of a young man going to war.
these are just some, there are plenty more.

Audie was always celebrated as earning the most military medals, including some from France. There was one other soldier who might have earned the same amount. If you get a chance, read Audie's own book, To Hell and Back. He had a writer helping him, but it's clear that Audie's own voice comes through. The film shows his bravery in Holtzwihr, France, near Colmar. 6 German tanks and hundreds of German soldiers began moving towards Audie and his small command. He saw that his troops would get slaughtered, so ordered them back to safety. He stayed, calling in artillery coordinates. As the tanks and troops got closer, Audie got on one of the two burning Allied tank destroyers, found the machine gun in perfect working order, and started firing. The smoke from the artillery confused the Germans, so they didn't know where the machine gun fire was coming from. Plus, they didn't think that anyone would be crazy enough to be on a burning tank that would blow up at any minute. Audie killed many Germans that day, and the 6 tanks retreated. This is one of his most famous reasons to get the Medal of Honor. The grateful citizens of Holtzwihr created a small but heart-felt memorial to Audie and the other soldiers for freeing them from the Germans. Audie never considered himself a hero, and requested that his headstone at Arlington be plain, without the decorated headstones for MOR recipients. You will have an interesting time researching him! What I realized after reading his story: No Whining. He had plenty of reasons to complain about the terrible cards that fate dealt him from the time he was a toddler, but he never complained.

Sabaton is a great band. You could see Bismark,Winged Hussars , Livstid i krig live in Gothenburg and many more.

What I understood Audie Murphy was the inspiration for the first Rambo movie.

You have reacted and liked a Sabaton song. Your fate is sealed. Prepare for an onslaught of us, Sabaton fans, bugging you for more. If you're into that kind of music you'd find yourself coming back anyways, so I wish you fun on the new branch of music.
I will warn you tho, you will encounter some real tearjerkers among Sabaton songs.

You gotta do Alestorm's Death Throws of the Terror Squid. Or any Alestorm song, I'd just recommend that one to start.

Warning: Some Alestorm songs are horribly inappropriate, such as Cannonball and F***ed with an Anchor.

Hi, watched all your Breaking Benjamin reaction videos and I loved them! Great Job!
Could you guys react to Linkin Park's newest releases " Lost " and "Fighting Myself " ?! Also if you're not familiar with Linkin Park ( which I highly doubt) you could react to the majority of their songs.

Thank you for watching and glad you enjoyed!! Definitely have heard Linkin Park back in the day (Love the songs In The End and Numb by them), and I think Rob has as well. Will add the new suggestions to the wheel, it will be interesting to hear what their sound is now. RIP Chester

@@x2zchat These 2 songs are unreleased songs from the Meteora album that didn't make the cut at the time as the band thought they sounded too similar to other songs from the album.

the song volume is too low! stopped watching to go watch the song by itself on youtube to do it proper justice! you cant play metal music at the same level you speak at!
