    "Dirk wears white sox" deserves to be "up there" with "The Clash" and "Never Mind the Bollocks..." IMHO.

    Amazing what Stephanie Gluck did with NO budget - it was made on peanuts budget.
    Adam's dancing is lovely - his physicality is such an integral part of all his performances.

    The "Geli/Gilly" of the chorus is actually Geli Raubel; she was Adolf Hitlers young half-niece, and Hitler was totally obsessed with her. Geli tried to escape his clutches by fleeing to Vienna, where she met a man and wished to marry him, Hitler however, forbade the relationship. She committed suicide by gunshot at just 23 years of age.

      Yep. And the possibility being if he had managed to have his disgusting way with this young girl then maybe his unparalleled evil might not have been inflicted upon the rest of the world and millions and millions of other innocents.... how awful - how does anyone weigh THAT particular balance? Only Maat. But we live in a universe where she killed herself and Hitler murdered millions. And Adam Ant wrote this. Hmmmm.

    'Dirk' was the 2nd album I ever had (first on cassette!) and I feel delighted to have enjoyed it, especially when aged only 6 or 7. 39 years on and I'm still reaping new rewards from repeated listening.

    God one of my all time favourite songs; and has been since 1979. The song is about the relationship between Hitler and his half-niece Geli Raubal; that's who "Geli" is when Adam sings "I said to Geli"....Hitler said that Raubal was the only woman he ever truly loved.

    This song is based on the German Question "The Jewish Question". Made into a film called "CONSPIRACY" with Kenneth Branagh and Stanley Tucci. Made years after Dirk Wears White Soxs. A stunning but deeply disturbing film, and it is still going on some 70 years later - today being the 23/03/2015. Adam Ant was years a head of other people, even with his own demon's that he has had to deal with. Buy and watch the film and the Album on CD, you would think these animals were talking about destroying elastic bands.

      Most retarded comment I've seen. Explain how this song can be based on a film produced years after the song was written,

    • @Dani92670
      @Dani92670 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol - just looked up the Wikipedia on that movie - wow, never heard of it and can't believe it's over 20 years old. It never ceases to amaze me just how many propagandist movies have been made on something that is illegal to question in about 18 countries now. There were no gas chambers and there was no "final solution" as they love to continually lie about. I am not denying Jews were murdered and mistreated, far from it. I am just sick and tired of the lies because we all have been paying the price for it. Most of all, the German people have paid the price and the majority of the world will never know. Right out in the open, however, there WAS a very REAL "final solution" the high-level, Jewish supremacists of that time had in mind, as one can read in black and white for him and herself in the 1941 book you can read for free as the PDF is widely available, fancy that. Here is the Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germany_Must_Perish!

    @Msosw And indirectly turned him into a massive star. I very much get the impression that Adam recognises that McLaren splitting up the Ants, (bastard!) was what really motivated him into becoming the household name he was to become. Still, one can't help but wonder what the follow up to "Dirk" might have sounded like without "Talcum" Malcolm's interference. One thing is for sure; it wouldn't have been anything like "Kings"!

    It was, table talk
    The evil I see
    Sends bad vibrations through me
    And oh what a square
    With your diagonal hair
    It was, table talk
    I said to Geli (Raubal)
    'how do you do table talk?'
    'how do you do table talk?'
    And this is what she said;
    'love love love love

    Too close to become a wife
    And the death of this girl
    Came close to saving the world
