    Sweet! I’ve been coding for 3 weeks, and I have this idea for a web app that will calculate caucus results.
    I’m gonna get it out there! Thanks!

    Stefan, you are totally right about using WordPress. I would consider myself to be a frontend dev and WordPress has ticketed me some pretty good clients. With it being so easy, I use my spare time to get into the deeper complexities of JavaScript by learning more about React and building side projects. I use WordPress to make the doughnuts and will use React to become a ROCKSTAR REMOTE DEV! Thanks for the awesome vids!

    Other alternatives are MS Share Point and Life Ray Application Portal for Java. Life Ray does let you do more hard core development while giving you a good security module and dashboard management

    Thank you for this video. Same as photography as soon as the workflow can be faster it's a positive.
    Concerning CMS, I have never worked for any big companies using this. It's even a chance if the clients I worked for where using Symphony framework...
    I think the big companies working with the big IT companies are too slow. They are miles lagging in term of technologies especially the banks.
    And the reason is simple and you said it yourself once a company has chosen a technology they don't wanna change it and sometimes even if one can demonstrate the loss of money not moving on.
    I am starting to follow your advices to aim at little businesses and it is more enjoyable in the sense that I can finally play with the technologies I want to work with. That's a big change compared to being in big IT companies stuck and wrist-tied by their clients. Probably could you do a video on that topic.

    What would you say concerning using templates to build a website? I’ve noticed that it’s a great way to learn and understand web development. But is this a good approach? Using templates, editing them and adding more logic to it using a framework like Django ?

    • @StefanMischook
      @StefanMischook  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      First rule of programming-club: reuse! Second rule of programming-club: remember rule #1. All developers use other people's code and frameworks ALL THE TIME. So using visual templates is almost always a great idea. For StudioWeb, we are custom, but that is the exception b/c of the nature of the project.

    Hi Stef! Short, concise question - If you work on your own web app business, what are your preferred ways of balancing marketing and the product-development/coding? Both seem to be very large tasks ...

    • @StefanMischook
      @StefanMischook  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question. It is a judgement call in that you need a MVP to be able to market. Often times, it is a subtle feature that makes a product viable .... so you need to be sure you hit the market with the key functions in place. That said, the process is to get the product out ASAP, so you can get the feedback from prospects and thus refine your product. Once you get good signals from the market that you product is indeed viable, then you can tilt your efforts and push hard on the marketing.

    Love the videos, but wanted to ask do you think that someone should work for a few years as a developer first before trying to start their own freelance business or can they just learn along the way while they are in business?

    • @actionphotopassion5082
      @actionphotopassion5082 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm working for big IT companies now for more than 15 years I think by now.... Well in those companies it's often more like an administrative job in the end.
      But there are lots of things to take from it: good and best practices, management learning, businesses of the clients, errors in processes or lack of processes, and last but not the least contacts.
      As a tech' those companies they just won't care what YOU wanna do or learn. They just have a specific need for a position and eventually your profile would match.
      But the tech of the final client, what they call the project and I always laugh at this statement, you may not like it... So be there take what you have to take from them. There is a learning curve, once you see that the gap between the next new knowledge on this particular project and what you already know is to slim, well it will be time for you to move on.
      Since 1 year I have decided to stop with big IT companies mainly because now my value is too high for those companies due to my xp now and because they can't cope with my expectations in term of challenging my knowledge. I really love to be challenged and there is a big need in a topic I have everything to learn it is AI/ML and I'm all in with this since 1 month and it's so exciting and refreshing 👍

    • @StefanMischook

      No. You can do it now. That said, remember what my my good friends now dead, but once famous TV director (uncle Bob) once said: "If you want to be a director, start directing. The biggest mistake people make, is to think that they have to do other jobs, to work toward being a director."

    Thank you King Dino Nerd! I'm not worried about squarespace and sites like that. In fact I know of some silly small companies fired their development team expecting web builders to solve all their problems. Some genius executive at the company's thought "why pay a person a full salary when we can pay $9.99 a month to do the same job?". Now they are basically bankrupt

    I am going to school for Computer Science programming transfer and minor. Most smart people get double BA. I thought it smarter to double minor one at a time. My transfer is done and now I am in C# class. I am 47 and noted permanently disabled and don’t have to pay my loans when I am done with financial aid, like Elizabeth Warren is working on. However in the claim if I go back to school then the loans come back on, stupid. I am actually poor as well. I am hoping to go to work for some body and transition when good time is to freelancing app design. I have a design certification as well and could get to making desktop and laptops with a team. I would like to work for Apple or whom ever but my poor status makes me think of elitist idiots with $40,000 desktops as out of touch with reality and what the true history of computing science is supposed to be. It is supposed to make life easier connected and cost effective. $40,000 dollars for a desktop is insanity’s royalties, which is some entity’s hand controlling you through manipulation rather than you being informed formally and educated to self governance. May the Lord show mercy and prosperity promotion.
