The Texas did not destroy any tanks, unlike the USS Nevada, because the Nevada had better guns and or crew, but the Germans did disband their counter-attack because they saw and heard the rounds of the Texas landing near by.
Fun fact: The other New York class Battleship, the USS New York, also served in both world wars, survived both wars, and then resisted two nuclear explosions during the Bikini Atoll nuclear tests. She was then studied to learn the effects of radiation for a few years at Pearl Harbor. Her end came as she was used for target practice in 1948 - it took 8 hours of torpedo bombing practice to bring her down. Truly, another fascinating ship.
I do work on the Texas with the First Texas Volunteers and beleive me, we could use some more help. The Texas is a great ship that deserves to be maintained. It is sad to see how time has bent her under her own wieght by buckling walls and decks below, but still a great ship to visit. Texans are working to get the money to dry berth her, but will take a while.
Can that sort of damage even be repaired? It sounds like the structure itself collapsing under gravity since the designers never thought it would be around for so many years...
I was a fire controlman on the Texas pacific theater IWO and OKINAWA 18 yr old now 90 yrs The movie Clip brought back many memories. I would like to see the Mighty T again in Texas I am very proud to serve on it and be part of this great generation that served our country.
+Sam Gelose, Hoorah Sailor! My uncle was in the pacific theater during WWII, I miss the stories. You're a National Treasure, thank you for speaking up here, and Thank You for your service \o If you ever sign up to play this, send me a message in game! (JohnnyO777)
Very cool man!! I am a history nut and this is much better than watching gameplay of World of Warships and listening to someone talking about the history of a ship. Keep them coning and can we get one on the Independence?
My father and his two triplet brothers served on the Texas during WWII and historically became the first triplets to serve together in the US Armed Forces.
Chase, I find your series of war ship videos absolutely fascinating and very educational as to how these ships were fought and defended. I guess some of my high level of interest is due to the fact that I had an uncle that I never knew that fought and died with the Marines on Guam. Many years later (1972-1975) I volunteered my services to the US Army Signal Corp and now find all sorts of weapons fascinating. Please keep up your great work. A suggestion; maybe a video of the fighting PT boats, and maybe a review of how some of the guns were removed from their ships and then used as shore defense weapons (mainly in the Atlantic wall, but quite possibly on the various Islands protecting the Japanese bases). Thanks again. Great, quality work. All the best, Rick...
I live in San Jacinto were the USS Texas is harbored and is a utter Beauty to stand on the deck of, it is amazing to be on and you can feel the power just standing near the guns. When I went up to the command deck I was in utter shock at how tall it was if you ever get a chance I highly recommend coming to San Jacinto to see the ship and the monument only hundreds of yards away
They're moving forward with the plan as they get funds for each step. Unfortunately they don't have enough cash to fund everything that is needed up to and including the construction of the actual berth. But that is still the plan. Right now I THINK that Taylor Marine has completed a big phase of internal structural work. There may be more structurals that are needed before she gets re-skinned. But re-skinning will require a dry dock. So the plan may be to start trying to raise the funds they need for the actual dry berth and then just skin her in place once she's dry. I spoke to Andy Smith a few weeks ago when I made my donation to the foundation but we didn't have time to talk about what the current progress is. The last I heard though was that Taylor Marine was ahead of schedule on structural elements below the boilers and engine room.
hallis1 Taylor Marine has just finished their work on ship. We've had our keel fixed and actually became the first ship in the world to have its keel repaired while afloat. Right now though a dry dock is really far in the future.
Thanks for the presentation and documentary of my state's Battleship. I had the pleasure of touring the Texas in the late 60's and I look forward to seeing her again soon!
Well done! Good mix of information and fotage. Even if a lot is not actually the correct ship :) I really want to vistit the USS Texas some day. (I life i Europe though) She is the only old Dreadnought left. It has always surprised me that the British and French did not preserve any of their old battleships. It's almost a crime that HMS Warspite was scrapped, she would have been a great sister museum-ship to Texas on the other side of the Atlantic. And for anyone playing World of Warships the USS New York is a grand old brute. Tough and with plenty of firepower from those 14" guns. Even if she is a bit on the slow side :) Keep up the good work!
Dear Chase, Your level of commitment in what you do truly inspires love for the upcoming game World of Warships. Trylant Thank you so much for the support :) I have tons of fun making these videos and seeing the comments that people post, especially posts like these. I will definitely continue making more and I hope you stick around for them :D
My dad served on the New York in the Pacific and was a part of Operations Crossroads. I only find out a few years ago when I found a memo marked " classified" that discussed the cleaning of the ship.
my father served on the New York 39 till 42, after Pearl Harbor, he was assigned to LSTs and was in every Atlanta invasion of Europe, Africa, and Mediterranean.
This is a really cool vid, mate. Very informative. And given we now know the Texas itself is currently undergoing testing, we'll soon be able to see her in the shop. God knows she'll sell like crrrraaazy. Not just from fans of the boat itself, but also from being the only USN premium BB ever to hit the shop. Arkansas was a gift to beta testers and never available afterwards :/
It's great that the Americans are willing to preserve their significant warships like the Texas. The British have always tended to sell off or scrap their older ships, possibly due to economic pressures, which has lost some grand old ladies of the seas.
My dad was a CPO on the New York in WWII. I have a few stories about it. Did you know they had to pause a bombardment to remove a sailor's appendix? True story - it was my dad!
I find it odd that while the class name was New York out of the two ships the Texas seems to be the one that was most useful/saw the most amount of action
Both ships saw useful action in the war. The New York had the misfortune of having her antiaircraft armament updated first, and the need to train Coast Guard and Merchant Marine sailors in the operation of her antiaircraft weapons was more important then her usefulness as a slow battleships. She did get her chance in the Pacific in 1944 and 1945 and performed useful shore bombardment. The Texas is the more famous of the two only because she was preserved while the New York was sacrificed at Bikini.
***** I actually fought with wargaming to put the USS Texas into WoWS sadly I lost though :( the Texas means a lot to me maybe one day they will put it in as a Prem.
Been to three of the oldest battleship museums - The (British-built, pre-dreadnaught) IJN Mikasa in Yokosuka, Japan ...The USS Texas in Houston ... and the USS Massachusetts in Fall River, MA. Neat experiences all of them. One of the great "crimes" of naval history is that the ONLY surviving real remotely modern (with main gun-turrets vs broadside guns) British battleship is the one they built for the Japanese. I will never understand why they didn't keep even one of their BB fleet after WWII.
it is such a good vessel when upgraded. When you can hit an enemy with your completed broadside be preparred for people calling you "aimbot" and "hacker" ;)
Question STILL STANDS: At tier 5, Kongou, or New York? Overall, the Kongou is generally more fun to play by a good deal, due in large part to its MUCH greater speed! BUT - the New York just NUKES cruisers, and if you HE loaded, DDs as well - as that extra turret of 2 guns can REALLY help, especially with how terrible dispersion is in any BB until tier 6 or 7 at least.
Texas's "armor plate on her side WAS 12 inches thick," now in places it is paper thin and not even capable keeping the water out. She is being kept afloat thanks to some donated pumps and emergency repairs by local salvage companies. They are continuously pumping out ten tons of water PER DAY. She either needs to be scrapped (something which taxpayers would probably have to pay for), or moved, repaired and placed in an already proposed dry berth. This too would cost tax payers money due to help from the USN to move, and repair (already committed if they can get enough to get her moved, this is NOT enough to do the entire repair/movement) and no one has come up with a way to pay for it. If we can get Jerry Bruckheimer to make another couple of war movies (Pearl Harbor), for which was charged for using her as a movie set, then maybe we can get her fixed. But she is actually number 2 on the list of historical ships in terrible condition, Dewey's cruiser Olympia is silted in and sinking (she too is being kept afloat by donated pumps and repairs), and is actually CRUMBLING at the waterline. These ships take huge amounts of maintenance to repair/maintain, and most of these foundations that own them have radically underestimated what it costs.
Would you ever look at doing a Submarine Tender.... A.S. 19 USS Proteus.... Very interesting history from WWII all the way up until late 1990's including being chosen directly by Pres. JFK to be retrofit to become first overseas tender, floating base and home port for nuclear submarines.... Site One Holy Loch Scotland..... But ship had a great history
I'm seeing some ships that aren't quite true to design. You guys going to do the Texas justice and actually give it the loadout it really had? Like torps. Noticed the New York didn't have them.
QE Class had bigger guns (proven to be superior to more guns of lesser size in ship-to-ship combat.) QE had a superior armor arrangement. And critically, the QE Class (the first class of Fast-Battleships) were faster by more than 3 knots than BB-34/35. So yeah, what you said. Just look at the two classes' post-modernization histories, Warspite's story is much more impressive than just shore bombardment, carried out after established naval supremacy.
You can take that attitude of This was better than that" somewhere else!!! notice none of the men who served said anything about there ship being the most powerful or there ships history being more impressive... You can always count on Fact checkers showing up on American military videos and downplaying them, in so doing a disservice to the men who where there... your inability to pay attention to the reason why this ships story is impressive to AMERICANS with its cultural significance AND your last comment, shows without doubt your an imbecile.. in closing..... you make me sick
+Lala Hurd Pretty sure you haven't served in the military, I have. Trust me, we always take the piss out of each other and uptalk the merrits of our own hardware. 100% guarantee this happened back then too. So I think you need to grow up, perhaps serve your country and learn where there, their, where and were go because you clearly don't know English well at all.
23:05 - I'm sorry, they DID SAY 155mm shells, that weighed THREE HUNDRED POUNDS?! If that is accurate, AT ALL - and they aren't just doing something like combining the weight of shells from a given gun emplacement - with more than one gun, like 2x 155mm plus 1x 120mm shells at STANDARD weight would be right around 340 pounds total. Because to cite Navweaps.com - yet again (GREAT resource with values for so many factors of so many naval guns and shell types!) - The Japanese 155mm L60 3rd year type gun used on the Mogami before the refit, and as secondaries on the Yamato and possible other BBs (IRL) - Had ONE Standard AP shell, which weighed exactly 123.2 pounds - obviously WELL short of 300 pounds! In fact MOST 203mm guns -aka 8 inch, fired AP weighing in between 260 and 330 pounds, with the Japanese 203 L50 guns firing 277.4 pound projectiles at a VERY healthy muzzle velocity of 870 meters/second! In fact IIRC the ONLY 8 inch/203mm guns of WW2 that actually not only met, but exceeded 300 pounds, at 335 pounds for their "Super Heavy" AP rounds only (HE weighed just 260) were the USN 8"/55 Marks 12, 15 and 16 - 16 being called "RF" as they were the autoloaded guns from the Des Moines class.
It's really too bad that a someone like a Houston Texans superstar player, with more money than he can spend in ten lifetimes, or a locally successful businessman such as "Mattress Mac", won't donate the tax deductible funds to dry berth this ship. Just think of the legacy they would leave Texas for the next several hundred years.
So torps, eh. Why the I don't have any eels on my New York in WoWS!? *sigh* oh the shame that Gaijin decided not to put the true warships into their War Thunder Naval battles. At least I would be assured the weaponry matches history. Now I am stuck with arcadish HP RNG game.
That's a terrible idea. Watch some of the Battleship New Jersey youtube videos about it. Concrete is porus so water gets down between the hull and concrete. Mikasa's hull basically doesn't exist anymore below the waterline. It's all rusted away.
"like what I do" well I do like the information showed but it is nothing more than a Discoverychannel rip with out the commercial breaks. I was really hoping to see some in game stats and such (yes I know it is in beta, still!)
At hate to take the wind out of this guys sails... Because I like the ships and all but... 3:12 "Most dangerous weapon on the face of the earth." "Largest guns in the world." ~points at the warspite~ Launched in 1913... (Commissioned 1915) 15 inch guns..... (And yes I know the difference) Umm... Well Good thing this guys is a curator and not a Historian.... (I hope) Heck even if the warspite was not around.. There where tons of ships with 14 inch guns at that point... some of them with more then ten.
advance hms Dreadnought had more advance propulsion than she did and she was the first Dreadnought type battle ship ever built, the queen elizabeth class of which warspite was one was commissioned a few months later was faster had better guns and armour and speed. new york class was not amazing or world beating
The British had 15 inch guns at the same time. I call BS. Their ships were faster, had turbines not recips, and used oil with more range. NY class was not that good.
I have to call you out for taking a history channel documentary and replacing its intro with yours. Not cool. Copyright infringement is bad enough, but claiming it as your own work is even worse.
Did you look at the video description? I credit every single source as well. I also do not claim/monetize this work and allow all original content creators to claim their rights and revenue for this video through TH-cam's content ID system.
I've sought out and bought some of these documentaries because of iChase's videos. I fail to see how boosting public visibility of something hurts someone else.
Only ignorant people will think that he is making these documentaries. I salute iChase for sourcing us these videos because they teach us more about history while playing wow at the same time.
mach533x Well I think Wargaming is trying to release the best possible game, be patient, the alpha testers are helping the devs make the best possible game before release :)
21:16 Now that to me, is absolutely badass! I salute you Captain Baker, and the entire crew of the USS Texas!
The Texas did not destroy any tanks, unlike the USS Nevada, because the Nevada had better guns and or crew, but the Germans did disband their counter-attack because they saw and heard the rounds of the Texas landing near by.
Fun fact: The other New York class Battleship, the USS New York, also served in both world wars, survived both wars, and then resisted two nuclear explosions during the Bikini Atoll nuclear tests. bigbil96 Fun fact indeed :)
A shame it wasn't turned into a museum ship like the Texas was. I would have loved to tour it if it was docked in NYC.
jj16802 of the Helghast Army would have but they were never really able to fully deradiate the vessel after the bikini tests!!
jj16802 of the Helghast Army Me too. I build model ships like the New York, and I wish that she was a museum ship in new York.
I do work on the Texas with the First Texas Volunteers and beleive me, we could use some more help. The Texas is a great ship that deserves to be maintained. Love the battleship Texas. They're currently rebuilding her internal support structure to make her ready for dry berthing.
hallis1 That's very good to know, these pieces of history must be preserved
Indeed. She's the only WW1 Dreadnought left.
Really? I thought they halted the progress of the dry dock because they ran out of funds.
They're moving forward with the plan as they get funds for each step. Unfortunately they don't have enough cash to fund everything that is needed up to and including the construction of the actual berth. But that is still the plan. Gary Biggs :) you're welcome
Well done! Good mix of information and fotage. Even if a lot is not actually the correct ship :)
I really want to vistit the USS Texas some day.
Even if she is a bit on the slow side :)
Keep up the good work!
Sorry you can't visit the Texas it really is a beauty in person (I Iive 7 miles from her) I hope one day you can see the old girl
wow, if I ever make my way to the southern states, Il be sure to give her a visit
Great ship design. One ship that will always have a place in my dock in WoWS.
Rick Clines I think that'll be the case for many US battleships for me :)
Dear Chase,
Your level of commitment in what you do truly inspires love for the upcoming game World of Warships. I have followed you for some time and I truly wish you hold in your own heart as much enjoyment in making your videos as I do watching them.
Your knowledge, and your strategic prowess is of great use now that I can play this game myself. Many hours of your footage I have watched. I dare not say that this alone makes me an expert...but I know that if it wasn't for 'TH-camrs' such as yourself that I wouldn't even have half the success going in without experiencing a much higher degree of frustration of failure.
I implore and openly encourage that you keep doing what you are doing. The enlightenment of knowledge you bestow is of great use to anyone humble enough to except it. After-all, the best game in the world would never hope to reach recognition in the brilliance of for-thought if there weren't passionate players such as yourself that shed light to the real challenging nature of this game that makes playing it so pleasant.
Sincerely, I thank you!

My dad served on the New York in the Pacific and was a part of Operations Crossroads. I only find out a few years ago when I found a memo marked " classified" that discussed the cleaning of the ship.
Melinda Hensley That is awesome, always nice to find out something like that :) o7 (that's a salute) to your father :)
Glad to see this ship in game now. I enjoy your videos a lot, keep them coming.
my father served on the New York 39 till 42, after Pearl Harbor, he was assigned to LSTs and was in every Atlanta invasion of Europe, Africa, and Mediterranean.
Nice presentation
John Williamson Thank you :)
Respect to all heroes! Americans, Poles, French, Brittish, Morrocan, whatever: very hero, from every country: i salute u, and thank u for our freedom.

I think the USS New York class Battleship IS going to be in the game I think it's going to be the tier 4 or 5 battleship.
NouseEmpire Probably, but we'll have to see
iChaseGaming Yeah you can go on the WoW website and the second news page it has the US Battleships, The New York is going to be the tier 5
***** I actually fought with wargaming to put the USS Texas into WoWS sadly I lost though :( the Texas means a lot to me maybe one day they will put it in as a Prem.
redred413 i don't think they will rename a whole class of battleship only because of 1 new york class battleship named Texas.
I fought for them to put it as a prem v_v not for the main class
Been to three of the oldest battleship museums - The (British-built, pre-dreadnaught) IJN Mikasa in Yokosuka, Japan ...The USS Texas in Houston ... and the USS Massachusetts in Fall River, MA. Neat experiences all of them.

Excellent job. Thank you.
Larry Spiller Thank you ^_^
it is such a good vessel when upgraded. When you can hit an enemy with your completed broadside be preparred for people calling you "aimbot" and "hacker" ;)
Thanks for doing this , these are the BEST!!
They actually play most of this video on the Main Deck on the Battleship Texas!
Alberto Bertorelli well yeah because it’s the same ship

hey great series going on...what about HMS Vanguard?
Wait wait....there were people who stayed on those target ships and held the targets up?? Thats just nuts!
***** Well...people have done some pretty crazy stuff before (watching nuclear explosions at distance that is way too close.
Great video!
my great grandpa served with her. He was a MM3
Nice job
I am learning the ways of battleships
I live a couple of miles from the Texas :)
UndeterminedCoolAviationName Sweet, hope you visit somewhat often :)
iChaseGaming I haven't been much lately, though I may join the volunteer crew and go do some upkeep on her.

yup. and having fun. her AA is a beast and her gun arc is slightly better.
South Carolina plz :)
You should do Arizona class next
Stacie Knighten I think I did the Arizona already th-cam.com/video/TdaDQb4M9Fo/w-d-xo.html
You mean Pennsylvania class.
I wonder who would win, 3-4 New York class battleships, or 1 Yamato class battleship
It would be turned into Texas toast.
Maybe create some videos on Submarines?

Do the cikuma is in the game
Good video
Thank you, glad you liked it ^_^

+Lala Hurd Just to clarify, "banter" is what we call it.
English may still need work as you pointed out... but I served as a 13-B field artillerymen in the US army. served in Iraq AUG 2010 to AUG 2011.. 3ACR
My understanding was Texas was hit by an 88 mm at D day which did little damage and can still be seen.
Republicans are titewads.
Great video but this talks about the Texas Battleship nothing about the USS New York ( BB34 )..
+Harley Pride The USS Texas was a New York Class Battleship.
Dumbass it’s the same ship
Fear Keeps You Alert
A nice video on the Texas, but hardly a word of the New York! That gets you a thumbs down.
what was battleship Texas price with armor an guns anyone know
$59.72. Theres been a lot of inflation since then. Houses used to cost $4.00.
Torpedo tubes?!
If WoWS comes out i will grind and grind till I get Texas and she will stay I will not sell her
The War Monger XD you're gonna love it
i saw some CBT footage there is a new york class
Is it possible if you could research and showcase tthe Indiana class Battleships of the United States Navy?? BB1, BB2, BB3 all commisioned in 1894.
if Texans liked the ship they'd all contribute
Thats socialism boyo. Rust and degradation is the capitalist way.
26:50 wtf is the "dapanies"
BlueLegoCat
26:49 The narrator meant *Japanese*. Probably just an audio editing error.
he still said dapanese
So what happened to the New York?
Little bit late, but she got sunk as target practice in 1948
Kaboom!
I play Star Trek Online and have a ship bearing this ships name
Is it rusty as all hell?
And today , her greatest enemy is her own age. She is going to have to be concreted. A sad fate
+Xarcht Long live the Battleship Texas
+Xarcht , Better concreted than scrapped.
if Texans cared about the ship they'd all send in money an get her steel an concrete coffer dam like mikasa
"she proved to be not out dated" by shooting a fuckimg ammo depot? withkut return fire? common seriously.
At hate to take the wind out of this guys sails... Because I like the ships and all but...
3:12 "Most dangerous weapon on the face of the earth." "Largest guns in the world."
~points at the warspite~
Launched in 1913... (Commissioned 1915) 15 inch guns..... (And yes I know the difference)
Umm... Well Good thing this guys is a curator and not a Historian.... (I hope)
Heck even if the warspite was not around..
There where tons of ships with 14 inch guns at that point... some of them with more then ten.
It was the most dangerous to its own crew. Lead paint, asbestos, high heat, unstable explosives, flailing engines. You know, like Hood.
advance hms Dreadnought had more advance propulsion than she did and she was the first Dreadnought type battle ship ever built, the queen elizabeth class of which warspite was one was commissioned a few months later was faster had better guns and armour and speed. new york class was not amazing or world beating
yes, yes and yes. typical American propenganda
Yep.
US did'nt pull ahead until Iowa class which was designed to go against Yamato.
The British had 15 inch guns at the same time. I call BS. Their ships were faster, had turbines not recips, and used oil with more range. NY class was not that good.
at 21:55 its an amarican tank lol
Clifford Doutre X_X yeah.....documentaries do sometimes get the footage wrong
thougth that as well, looks like a stuart
Are you Ronnies son?
I have to call you out for taking a history channel documentary and replacing its intro with yours. Not cool. Copyright infringement is bad enough, but claiming it as your own work is even worse.
Did you look at the video description? I credit every single source as well. I also do not claim/monetize this work and allow all original content creators to claim their rights and revenue for this video through TH-cam's content ID system.
I've sought out and bought some of these documentaries because of iChase's videos. I fail to see how boosting public visibility of something hurts someone else.
You totally miss the issue. Putting his own intro on it makes it look like he is taking the credit for other's work.
Only ignorant people will think that he is making these documentaries. I salute iChase for sourcing us these videos because they teach us more about history while playing wow at the same time.
This vid is all about the Texas not the New York. (change the title name)
+Jay Chocc The Texas was a New York Class ship.
"the ship"? stupid comment. oen thing does not ever win a war.
THIS GAME needs to hurry the fuck up!! i was reading about it in afghanistan fucking almost 2 years ago! grrr..!!! ROID RAGE!!!!
mach533x Well I think Wargaming is trying to release the best possible game, be patient, the alpha testers are helping the devs make the best possible game before release :)
Ugly ships tbh
Juri ugly yeah but they shoot rounds bigger than your car
Head on the Tx. has a squat purposfulness look I like. And you can always use a 5th turret. The Iowas are the best looking.
@@parkerschultz7822 The German rail guns had shells twice the size of a 16 inch.
