Bax EQ is also great for adding 1db in MS to the Side and Curve Bender / PSP Master eq is fantastic!!! Maybe what is missing here are the Acustica Audio versions of the Maselec, Sontec, and Fariman EQs - Scarlet / Ivory / Indigo and of course the fantastic Kirchhoff by plugin alliance
Hi Dom I'd love to see some detailed videos on Passive Massive and Chandler Eq. Maybe some tips & tricks? Also would be cool if you make a video of which frequency are good to boost and cut for various instruments. I know each mix is different, but some bullpark frequeny, that would be cool. Cheers
Fantastic insight as usual... can't wait to see an insight video of you testing the SONTEC MES-432 plugin by Make Believe. It's revered as the most analog-ish EQ plugin ever made!
hey Dom, super grateful for your videos idk where id be in music production without them; please keep doing what you're doing!! your videos are not boring so i dont loose interest! thanks again man !!
Of these, I have the Dangerous Bax EQ, Pulsar Massive, Weiss EQ1, Pro Q3 and Gulfoss. Gulfoss is a different kind of thing really, but I use it all the time and highly recommend it. For broad brush mastering EQ, Massive is hands down my favourite, especially if you tweak the drive levels. I also use Tokyo Dawn Slick EQ M.
Dom, I love your content. Always excited when you release a new video and love going through all your old videos. Do you have any video specifically for EQing a piano? If not, is that something you would ever create a video on? There are so many good piano VSTs out there, but some of them sound "tinny" to me, even the ones that are considered "great". Would really be interested in having a video showing the best way to have a really good starting point for EQing piano. I'm personally looking for good EQing of a piano to literally just jam on by myself. No other instruments in the mix. Just me playing piano and sounding wonderful! But since that's just me, a general EQing piano video would be very welcomed. Thanks, Dom. Have a great day.
what's great about these plugins, especially pulsar. I see you raise the gain way more and still, it doesn't damage the mix. what's left is adjusting to our taste and feel safe :)
I'm a simple man, i like Pultec on almost everything, even the master but i always wanted an M/S version and i found the Bettermaker Master EQ to be the one for the job :)
Chandler sounded great so did the Neve. On the flip side, I feel like the PA plugins sound too harsh digitally. I struggle using their plugins for this reason.
Most liked: PA BAX, R.Neve Design, Kush Hammer and Softube Weiss. I do already have the PA BAX, Kush Hammer and Knif Soma and from your presentation I'm very interested in getting the R. Neve Design EQ 👜 Thank you for this overview 🙂
BAX is absolutey the most musical one in the list, simply amazing. Also suggesting SPL PassEQ as a great one on low-lows and high-air treatment on stereo buss
Would also like to shout out the reasonably newish Metric Halo/MakeBelieve Sontec emulation. That sucker is smoooooooth. I don’t think it was out when you made this video, though. And it’s not cheap, but damn it is good.
Did anyone hear a distinct sonic difference (colour) between any of these eq's. I didn't hear a lot, maybe too hard to tell on YT even though I'm listening on studio monitors.
Hi Dom, Nice video! i have learned a lot from your tutorials in cubase only i am missing this one: Can you make also a video about how you to master a song (Dance/electro/house or trance)?
After watching I might tend towards the Gullfoss and Portico EQ, especially for transparency and some corrections. I think you have to be careful to not overdo the Gullfoss though. Thanks for the video Dom!
Hey Dom, nice videos. Thx for your work. Since you've brought up the Fab Filter Q3 in Mastering, can you please do a video on the new Kirchhoff EQ. Since it has these EQ-Emulations on board, don't you think they are suited good for Mastering. I mean, Kirchhoff is a staple, ain't it?
Hey Dom! Do you think Absolute 5 is still in its value? Do you think Steinberg may introduce some updates in nearest future? May sound stupid but from Cubase 10 I always preffered it over i.e. NI Komplete bundle.
There is a good reason to take the Pulsar Massive over the UAD, man, this Pulsar is absolutely “0” latency 🔥 and sound wise, well I guess it just sound just different, not better or worse but different! But cero latency! Yes you get my money!!!
I got the whole suite on sale. Still a little pricey, but it is a matter of perspective, I guess. Excellent plugins. 1:1 software copies of the originals.
I recommend Opal by Acustica (Just not if you're using M1 or a laptop, it requires serious CPU), then the UAD AMS-Neve channel strip plugin. The EQ on that is the same digital EQ code from Rupert Neve's first digital desk, used to mix Star Wars prequels. It sounds better than any plugin EQ I've ever tried, including all of these. I would say the UAD Massenburg comes close second. Both UI's are 10 years out of date. Nightmare to work with, but sound the closest to hardware. Typical UAD.
I've owned the Portico 5033 for years but never used it much but after hearing you crank that bottom I was blown away. Time to reexamine it. Also, I just bought the Massenburg MDWEQ6 which I think is top shelf but doesn't seem to get much attention. Have you tried it?
14:45 you should definitely switch to Natural Phase or Linear for mastering with Pro-Q3. And one other question: do you also smiling everytime so obviously when you like a setting if you are mixing alone in your studio? LOL ...but still like your channel and thanks for this video!
Hey Wilson! I would still use my ears when choosing between Linear phasing or not- linear phase is not a panaceas. Especially for the low end. There are many great videos out there explaining several reasons *not* to use Linear phase sometimes. :) hahaha you should see me when playing music then :) it’s not on purpose, I do it instinctively- if I’m not alone I will jump to the other room and tell people “dude you have to listen to this”! It’s one of the reasons I made this channel in the first place - I’m a strong believer that if you don’t get pleasure of what you do in this business you’re not gonna last too long :) Thank you for the kind words my friend ❤️
They are all tools :) I also have analogue EQs and they sound stellar- they can definitely bring something extra to the table. But if you can’t afford an analogue EQ these will allow you to do the job incredibly well :)
Great video. I like and own all the Plugin-Alliance plugins. The BX dangerous and the Soma sound fantastic, even when push to the max . I like the Rupert Neve 5033 too. All by all, all the plugins sound great. Have you tried the AirEQ Premium by Eiosis? You have a unique and pleasant way of providing knowledge and info to the world. Continue to make as much video as you can 👍
I know this comment is probably insane but is that the imposcar claps? Also loving the background synths 💕 cool video i enjoy the Bax on my master already but haven't gotten around to trying mid freq enabled eqs for mastering (though i do have ozone if needed but never use it). I don't think I understand when to apply it after the mix is done. Anyways thank you for this time to demo and learn. ✌️
Great video, but I was surprised you did not have TDR on your list they make great sounding plugins, check out TDR SlickEQ M which is Tokyo Dawns Mastering EQ it has some very cool features. Def worth checking out if you have not.
You dont need 10 eqs, you need only FF pro q3. If you are looking for "analog" emulations instead of knowing which freqs to control you are totally doing everything wrong.
I beg to disagree. It’s not “wrong”. The reason why we use analog emulations (and sometimes, indeed, analog EQs) is because we know that specific EQ curves will work great on source material. pro-q3 is an amazing EQ and can possibly recreate any curve if you really work on it. But on a real session, you don’t want to spend time recreating specific curves (and curves that dynamically change the more you boost with an analog emulation- no , Pro Q3 cannot so this), you want to reach for an EQ that gives you a specific sound that morphs the more you boost or reduce the gain to get to the result faster. Why? ear fatigue and Time is money. All this if you have the experience to know this or you want to explore these options when you’re starting out. It’s absolutely fine to use just one EQ if that’s your workflow. But stating that using an emulation is “wrong” is certainly untrue. These are generalisations made popular by TH-cam and are just that- generalisations. When you mix, you want to get to a sound, not emulate EQ curves with plug-in Doctor :)
Nice. Like your videos., but is time to change that song. I will like to listen the examples with other song. For me electronic music, but anything but that song is just not fun anymore. 😊
Thank you my friend! I wanted to use a different song and I tried a few but the videos get flagged for copyright issues. I am working toward this direction but it might take a bit of time :)
Good Lord! The Chandler made that song jump directly out of my speakers.
It is great to see someone so passionate about their art, great videos that help us all
Yes, please - a video on the Pulsar Massive! Great overall EQ video, Dom. As always, so informative and musical.
Don’t forget the coral which is the bax
great video dom, now eq for mixing🙏🔥🔥
you been changing things for me from the day I sub

man this!! appreciate your time sharing your experience, open and fair to all of us. Greetings!!
Excellent EQ demo, I really like my Pulsar Audio Massive and 8200, along with their Smasher, 1178, Mu compressors.
hey Dom, super grateful for your videos idk where id be in music production without them; please keep doing what you're doing!! your videos are not boring so i dont loose interest! thanks again man !!

Thanks! Dom Sigalas. This video demo helped me to make clear decision &
buy Pulsar Massive.
great

I love the FG X Mastering Processor from Slate Digital for acoustic music. But I it’s good to have some options for EQ👍! Looking forward to the video!
I took them all, so that the arsenal is complete. 🙂 Thx a lot Dom. You are a great man
I hoped you would include the Tokyo Dawn Slick EQ Mastering Edition. It’s fantastic.
My fav is AMEK EQ 250, not mentioned here. It does something to the stereo image that i like
Chandler sounded great so did the Neve. On the flip side, I feel like the PA plugins sound too harsh digitally. I struggle using their plugins for this reason.
Pulsar massive is the EQ I've been waiting for, I would love to see you do a video on this one
Hey Dom! Please do a comparison between the portico eq and the noise Ash 533 eq
Nice one Dom! Keen for the Pulsar Massive and the Gulfoss - both currently have discounts on them btw ;)
Hey man! Indeed both are killer! Found the discounts and added them in the description :)
great video,.....i always wanderd why there are always knobs too the 10 on eqs if we are "not supposed" to use that setting :)
Yes please, a video will be great for Pulsar Massive. Have you compared it with other ones like UAD Massive Passive?
BAX is absolutey the most musical one in the list, simply amazing. Also suggesting SPL PassEQ as a great one on low-lows and high-air treatment on stereo buss
I'd be curious to see what you think of the Clariphonic MKII from Kush Audio
Absolutely love it! I’ve talked about it on another video!
You should also try SPL PQ if you didn't try it yet. It could be in the list also, it's really amazing
Would also like to shout out the reasonably newish Metric Halo/MakeBelieve Sontec emulation. That sucker is smoooooooth. I don’t think it was out when you made this video, though. And it’s not cheap, but damn it is good.
what you think about bettermaker 232d ? thanks
The Rupert Neve Design 5033 Portico EQ is gone on the Steinberg website.
Sadly :(
@@DomSigalas in replacement for 5033 Portico EQ, NoiseAsh Audio Tools Need 533 can do the work:) Try it, Dom!
The PSP Master Q2 sounds very nice. Maybe it is the right one for me. Thxs for the demo's.
That "Nothing To Prove" track is a real earworm. Where can i pick that up Dom?
Great walkthrough of EQs, but I'm still waiting for you to check out and give your view on the SPL PQ from PA. :)
Thanks Dom! Very informative
Need this videooo! 🔥🔥
Pulsar massine sounds (I borrow your words) absolutely musical. I would appreciate a deeper look like you suggested.
Coming up :)
After watching I might tend towards the Gullfoss and Portico EQ, especially for transparency and some corrections. I think you have to be careful to not overdo the Gullfoss though. Thanks for the video Dom!
Hi Don what do you thing about windows 11 and cubase 13 work?
Hey Dom, nice videos. Thx for your work. Since you've brought up the Fab Filter Q3 in Mastering, can you please do a video on the new Kirchhoff EQ. Since it has these EQ-Emulations on board, don't you think they are suited good for Mastering. I mean, Kirchhoff is a staple, ain't it?

massive and weiss eq sound amazing
How can you get the portico ? Steinberg doesn’t offer it anymore?
There is a good reason to take the Pulsar Massive over the UAD, man, this Pulsar is absolutely “0” latency 🔥 and sound wise, well I guess it just sound just different, not better or worse but different! But cero latency! Yes you get my money!!!

Hi. Wondering why you didn’t mention the SPL PQ. And the Amek 200 or Amek 250. And the Bettermaker
What do people think of the Waves mastering plugins?

Can you give a link to the song you are playing "nothing to prove"?
Nice video. I thought I had a lot of mastering equalizers lol!!!
'CMOOON...
Please, these EQs are all so good I can't find proper words...
im missing the Eq's from Acustica Audio special the Opal you would love it !
where can we get the track (Nothing to Prove) is it release already ??
cara eu amo essa sua sua música balanço gostoso de ouvir!
Did you ever checked the MAAT EQs or the Ameks?
Seems like you didn’t disable the bax eq when playing around with massive passive
Acustica Opal is one of my favorite EQs for mastering.

I Like the Candler. Whats about the version of UAD ist in sale now.
The UAD and the Softube are the same plugin.
weiss eq1 vs pulsar massive?
great video! also this song is a banger..got me boppin my head n shit lmaooo
What's this song and where can I find this?? Can anyone help???
How do these compare to analog EQs that many mastering studios use?

Oh btw
I demoed the dangerous Bax but found AA Coral a better fit for me. Both sound good.
I see you as a teacher, Good job
What a shame the Steinberg Portico is not compatible with Apple Silicon, won't you agree?
Totally! I miss them so much :(

informative video 👌
Plugins?
Flux-Epure
bro that was bucket of coffee god damn.
Have to admit, am surprized I did not see a TDR Slick EQ M here today🤔
aa ok so this is the networkchuck of audio engineering that's hilarious😂
Ur moving them knobs so fast .. how can we tell the sound changes lol .. zhip and next.
Maybe give us time to appreciate the settings?
Try Satin on your master
Nice
Cubase wouldn't be the same without Dom (probably Dom wouldn't be the same with Cubase too)

Acustica Azure = WAY better than the PA version of Knif Soma. I like some of PAs stuff, but a lot of their EQs seem sterile to ne
