Now that I've got a whopping 2 days of experience with this company and driving this truck.. I feel like this is another training company. I don't mind doing 65 And a hyper speed of 68.. But with all the sensors and sonar.. I'm not a happy camper. Do you know how many cars and semis could fit in the 400 to 500' distance ahead of the truck... I'm referring to when it's on cruise control and you approach slower vehicles.. That 4 or 500' is very extreme. I've got a perfect driving record and unblemished driving history. Not to mention the camera they installed in my truck for 60 days. All I can say is that 1st paycheck better be a good one.

I retired two years ago after almost 40 years in trucking,11 of which I spent at Crete. Although not perfect,Crete did a better job of planning than any company I worked with. There was a time when most of my loads averaged over 1000 miles,and then they suddenly dropped to about half that. The pay at Crete was always good,near the top of the stack of dry freight companies. They had what I considered too many silly-ass rules. Military experience helps in tolerating that. I will say that they're evenly applied. There was less favoritism at Crete than any company I worked for. The equipment was always good,well-kept,and slow. Be safe out there and slower traffic keep right!

@@TheJoyofTrucking My wife corrected me. I was at Crete for 14 years. The 11 years was at Dart Transit and I certainly can't recommend them. They used to be a decent company until a generational change,after which they sucked.

Werner was terrible for maintenance on tractors and trailers. They did the work it just took forever and a day. One of the biggest reasons I left Werner was the splits. Rarely had a load from pickup to delivery. I got mad about it and ignored the message for a day and they finally called me on the phone. Lol they were kinda upset. The reason I believe you're not having tire problems is a better class of drivers. Werner drivers stay upset about everything. Short runs, low pay, constant breakdown and just being a green rookie driver. Create is really a training company so you get a more seasoned driver IMO. You sound happier where you are and that is half the battle. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.
I didn’t mind live loading or unloading, but sitting for 4 days and getting 1500 miles doesn’t work. Don’t count on getting home with 3 weeks notice to make a family gathering. I guess loyalty doesn’t matter these days even working through Covid without taking a sick day.
Werner is a training company.. not just for drivers, but for office staff as well.. Inefficient.. but they're still in business making some money. Lots of good info, thanx. I plan on staying out 30 to 45 days.. I'm hoping for that 100K+ and I've been with a handful of big trucking companies.. each one WILL screw you over.. it's just a matter of time. It's the Joy of trucking.. lol.. ps. I'm a million miler.
@@TheJoyofTrucking oh.. that's the first I've heard of that phrase. I've been driving steady for the last 11 months so I'm pushing almost another 100000 my last ROLLING 12. So far I'm at a whopping 1534 in this truck. Baby steps.
I've been driving 24 years, and my 4 month with Crete has been a good experience Better pay than old job. I haul refer on Shaffer side. Nice mix of live and drop hook. And they don't baby sit drivers.
Give it some time..your miles will drop…my first 90 days or so were great then the bottom fell out.8300 mi month avg never turning anything down and staying out 6weeks at a time..
Numbers like 70% drop and hook is for the entire fleet, won’t necessarily reflect what you’re going be doing. Best advice I ever got was remember they are telling you the fleet average, bigger the fleet the easier it is to have impressive numbers
I drove for Crete was not that impressed with their regional. I wanted to avg 2k miles a week they never did that for me. In fact one of the office guys told me you will never get 2k miles a week as a regional driver.
I get t-call loads but they are always preplanned. So I know ahead of time. They usually run me Arkansas and west. I'll pickup up a load and take it to a terminal in east Texas so I can turn around and drive in the part of the country that I agreed to when I started.
I like what you said about being able to refuse a load with crete, when I was with werner I refused a load and because of that I sat for 3 days until I got another load, I'm sure it was because I had refused a load, and I wasn't a person to refuse many loads
If you switch to the reefer division you will have more drop and hook, more money and shippers and consignee are bigger and easier to find. In and out easy.
One exception to that, Baylor trucking Pepsi dedicated. Was supposed to be primarily drop and hook. In reality, only 30-40% actually ended up being d and h.
I went right into deck work by the mile. But soon jumped to deck by commission and oversize and only ran cross border.... was able to start taking home 10k a month on average.

Hi Kevin, my hubby drove for Crete, my hubby got lung cancer n to be honest I will tell you, Crete treated us with kid gloves, dr laura always made sure that dispatch always treated my Brian well, all Brian had to do was call me, n I had laura on speed dial, especially if he got sick n such. But the manager at the Des Moines terminal , because my hubby passed in 96. But I must say my Brian was for the most part treated with respect, the only time I saw that they did t time is someone got sick or something. Brian usually always had awesome equipment, good luck, stay safe. ❤❤❤❤ I know I sure miss seeing that truck in the drive when he would be home.
My fiancé left Crete a month ago after being there for 2 years. He was treated like a bottom list driver and was taken off loads making it difficult for him to pay his bills. One of his last check was $.20 because they had scheduled for his truck to get into the shop which was being completely unreasonable to work with him. They couldn’t find him a new/replacement truck, and they wouldn’t give him breakdown pay. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!
Ohhhhh. That’s bad. We’ve never heard of anything like that happening at Crete. Sorry he went through that. Hope he landed somewhere that works out much better for him.

Drove for Werner for a few months, Had about 10+ trailers that needed new tires or something. Very relatable statement there, I knew you looked familiar when i clicked. I watched your vids before starting at Werner, Now I'm with another company with only red Kenworth's. Slower but the miles are way better, you should be careful promoting a carrier. More drivers means less miles & possibly more split loads my guy. I like Crete's trailers and im a huge fan of freightliners, If something happens bad enough this video was pretty helpful. Stay safe and keep trucking tho.
Your drop and hook percentage will go up when the freight market improves. I think Crete is having to shuffle loads around the past year because of the economy and their customers having supply chain issues. But you notice your miles stay good. They also eliminate customers who constantly delay drivers.
I'm thinking of joining Crete to do Walmart dedicated in, MT, WY, CO & UT. Do trucks have inverter to use microwave? Do they complain about using too much optimized idle for comfort?

No they didn’t compensate for those miles below 2500 miles also got into a altercation with my previous team mate but not physically so got put on Coke regional account been on it for about a week but going back to the Hobby Lobby account gonna give it another shot also this month December makes 5 months on the road still learning of course definitely have improved in a lot of different areas. But you’re definitely right Werner is a teaching company but imma stay with them a while longer but please keep the videos coming I always appreciate the POV from another company’s perspective. 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼Also I lost 2 weeks due to my International being down for 2 weeks and them not really wanting to change my equipment which was upsetting but that breakdown pay was alright to get by on for a minute but still not acceptable. Also they’re taking away our Personal Conveyance in January😢
All the trucks Werner has you would think they would give you a rental car and get you to another truck. That is what Crete does. If you are going to be broke down for more than a few days they will get you a loaner to keep you rolling. Been at Crete for 21 years.
With any brand truck, it's either good or bad. Some trucks will never have issues, others will be in shop allot. Nothing to do with brand much of the time

You get a new trailer with each new load. Sometimes you have live unloads and use the same trailer again. But it’s rare to keep a trailer for several loads in a row. Crete requires 8-12 months experience depending on your school and who you are driving for. And you need a good driving record. For more details check their website. 🤗

Did a stint at Werner, dedicated Budweiser Columbus OH. Ok money but eld was a pain using it for personal transportation. Their failure to respond to my messages done going home caused them issues. I’d be trucking to work at 0545, I’d get the proverbial you are violating your 10 off msg. I’d tell them to fix it or I’d go home until tomorrow, lol. They did. Did a stint with CRST, never again. IDK what they tell you they are lying. Spent most of my driving time at Able Transit out of Newark Ohio as an owner operator. They were the best.
Been watching a lot of your content lately. CDL for 3 months. Crete says 1yr required. I'm curious if Crete let's you drive your tractor home. I know Werner does and they'll take me straight out of school. Right now I drive tractor trailer for a big company consolidating freight between 4 warehouses and a main terminal in a 60 mile radius (typically two buildings a night) and load it myself. It's $30/hr 50hr weeks. But id love to drive out of state....
Thank you for watching our channel! Sounds like you have a pretty good gig. But you are right, if you want to see the country and get paid for it 0TR is a great way to do it. Crete told us that you need a minimum of six months, but then would still have to go out with the trailer. Then they said at 10 months you can come without a trainer, depending on your experience and with which company. So maybe try calling recruiting again if you are interested in Crete. As to your question, yes, Crete lets you drive your tractor home. As a matter of fact, we heard that Werner no longer allows personal conveyance. At Crete you can still use personal conveyance to get home after you’ve finished a job. That is much better!
Left in September due to severe lack of miles…8300mi a month..never turned down loads and staying out 6weeks..i know for a fact there is drivers there that will not run more than 350-400mi a day..they cater to those drivers evidently…
We are so sorry to hear that it didn’t work out for you at Crete. I know it’s too late now, and we hope you found something else that you are happy with, but here’s an insight for your. Kevin’s asset manager told Kevin that he can turn down loads that are unproductive…and Kevin does. Not sure what the ‘planner’ is thinking sometimes with the load assignments. Kevin will turn down unproductive loads that would cost him too much time between loads. So you were trying to be a good cooperative employee taking all the load assignments…and that cost you miles. Hopefully this insight can help you in the future. We had an old timer at Werner tell us to remember that the ‘Fleet Manager’ is not our boss, but rather that they are the driver’s partner. It’s tough getting out of the ‘employee’ mindset, but we keep reminding ourselves that Kevin and his asset manager work as a team and Kevin has a say in the loads he accepts. Anyway, just thought I’d share that detail with you. Hopefully where you are now is going well for you!! Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!
@@TheJoyofTrucking I have screenshots of the load planners absolutely get smart ass with me because I turn down 500 mile 2 and a half day loads… Management there absolutely sucks. I have text messages from Erick cutter the president of Shaffer and he basically blows off any concerns after? He asked why I left… It’s no wonder a lot of these trucking companies get away with the crap that they do because they have people that will turn around and bow to them and get on their knees for them and not believe anything is happening even if it’s happening to them right front of their face… I have dozens and dozens of screenshots from the PeopleNet app, showing the messages on how rude they got, and when you have an asset manager that talks to you like a two-year-old because she thinks she knows more than you do as a driver which I’ve been driving for more than 25 years and management does nothing about it again that shows just how bad management is and how little they give a darn about the drivers because they have drivers come along. A dime a dozen they don’t care… All the crap that is going on over there now whatever never happen under Dwayne Acklie why do I say that because I work for Shaffer back with Dwayne acklie ran the day to day operations and he would’ve fired half the people in Lincoln for that crap… Crete is just another mega carrier on the same level of warner, swift US, Xpress, etc.
Depends what you mean by ‘safe.’ Safety is their number one concern. With at least a year experience they think you are a good driver. Officially you are there for expected to have the skill to do all loads that are assigned to you. But I would think if you build up a good relationship with your asset manager you can talk to them about it. If it’s unproductive in terms of time you definitely can talk to them about it.
would they even offer you a load that runs the risk of being late? Are they looking at the feasibility of that preplanned load or is that all on you in which case you might not have the time to assess that preplan til you have time to stop

Hey there! Kevin is out of DeLand, FL. As far as we know it makes no difference. Our thinking is that it’s convenient because you can park the truck at a terminal and are close to home and also have work done on it there while you are home.

Hey there!! Thanks for watching our channel! We are glad that you are getting some good information from our videos! Congratulations on recently getting your CDL! That is an achievement you can be proud of! Yes, Kevin got his CDL with the Phoenix Truck Driving Institute just around the corner. Lol! So we know the neighborhood! ;-) You have a number of opportunities to start driving for companies based in Phoenix. Kevin did his first year with Werner, but there are other options for you as well. Werner has its issues, but we thought it was a good place to start and they provided a lot of training opportunities. Everybody has different priorities for choosing their company. It seems to us that a lot of the companies that take new drivers will have a very steep learning curve, but will give you the opportunity to get experience. Once you have 6 to 12 months experience, you will have a lot more options and the ability to earn better money. So you just have to learn as much as possible and stay the course during your first 6 to 12 months. Kevin stayed with Werner one year. He is now finishing his first year at Crete. He is much happier here and making much better money! You can call Crete recruiting (1-800-998-2221) and find out what their minimum required experience is right now. They have different options, as far as we know. Like maybe with six months experience if you go out with their trainer. Otherwise we’ve heard 10 months, though their website says one year. So best to ask a recruiter. We don’t think they take rookies with no experience. Unfortunately. We definitely recommend Crete as soon as you can get here. We meet LOTS of long term drivers here who say it’s the best company they’ve worked for. And we are also happy and see no reason to change companies. Best of luck! Let us know what you decide to do.
This was an interesting video but imo you have to step away from the large fleets and go to a smaller size carrier. I personally say 50 or less trucks. Business models change fast once a company grows large. Usually for the worst and they get more exploitive
The bad thing with the crete mechanics in all the terminals is they refuse pretty much to fill up or check your tire pressure level. Most of the companies I worked for just do that automatically without having to ask. Another thing is they like to micromanage your climate in your truck. For example if it's winter time and you're in Florida for home time or working and you have to use your air conditioner, you'll have Lenoir City calling you prepondered on why you are not with their national average. Even an explanation is just not good enough you'll just have to sweat it out partner.
Noticed a few things with other companies versus Crete. Cant unlock my passenger door with a crete truck. No luxuries in crete trucks. Super confusing communication. Eld is terrible. Planning is not dispatch. It's not easy to get dispatched . Ive resorted to writing load detsils. No big deal. Home terminal sends me wellbeing message
Not sure. We’ve never needed it. Maybe a more experienced driver could chime in. You get detention pay after 2 hours and then it switches to layover at some point.
@The Joy of Trucking no luckily I don't have to go with one thank god!!! Yea I'm not sure what the driving test is they just said there's 2 and the second one you have 30 days to do it after hire. They said most people just stay and do it the 4th day.

Re your live load numbers:. If you think of a load as two events, i.e. pickup/drop off or load/unload, let's call your 88 loads as *really* 176 events, or possibilities of live or not live loads. You say 51 (of 88) had one or the other (or both) events as live, but now thinking in these terms what is the actual number? How many of those loads were live at the beginning AND at the end? A few? Ok, let's say you had, idk, 60 live events. Now you're almost exactly at that 30% marker, and maybe that's what Crete meant. 🤷

Hey there!!! Everything was spot on, except she thought we’d be able to store truck at a customer’s yard in Buffalo to head to Canada for a vacation. That turned out not to work out. We got a storage spot ourselves. But everything else was true as she told us. Very satisfied.
They assign you loads. You do not determine your loads. You can turn them down for being unproductive but not for their destination. Then they have a suggested route. You can drive differently but only make the miles for the route they suggested unless there are serious circumstances of being rerouted long ways due to accidents for example. You can run different routes but preferably not toll roads. You’d also need to use their fuel solution or ask for a new one if you’re on a different route. Hope that answered your question. 😃
Has your assest manager ever spoke to you rudely or logs and compliance. Just out of curiosity, are the ppl at crete friendly as far as operations relationship to their drivers? What's the culture like their? I've been with crete 3 weeks I see a lot of red flags.

Like you said in the video, recruiters will tell you whatever to get you in the door then you find out things are not what they seem but I'm keep on trucking hopefully things will get better. Crete is FORCED DISPATCH. You cannot deny a load if you legally have time to complete the load. But they pick and choose which drivers they enforce those rules with. Also, truck swap after 12 hours in shop is a pain. No layover pay.

Crete is a good company but I didn’t make a lot there, I probably averaged 2400 miles a week, the small company I’m at now I run 3k or more a week, I ran 4500 miles this week.. but if you’re a new driver I’d definitely suggest Crete or CFI

The reason I believe you're not having tire problems is a better class of drivers. Werner drivers stay upset about everything. Short runs, low pay, constant breakdown and just being a green rookie driver. Create is really a training company so you get a more seasoned driver IMO.

I didn’t mind live loading or unloading, but sitting for 4 days and getting 1500 miles doesn’t work. Don’t count on getting home with 3 weeks notice to make a family gathering. I guess loyalty doesn’t matter these days even working through Covid without taking a sick day.

Werner is a training company.. not just for drivers, but for office staff as well.. Inefficient.. but they're still in business making some money. Lots of good info, thanx. I plan on staying out 30 to 45 days.. I'm hoping for that 100K+ and I've been with a handful of big trucking companies.. each one WILL screw you over.. it's just a matter of time. Better pay than old job. I haul refer on Shaffer side. Nice mix of live and drop hook. And they don't baby sit drivers.
Give it some time..your miles will drop…my first 90 days or so were great then the bottom fell out.8300 mi month avg never turning anything down and staying out 6weeks at a time..

Numbers like 70% drop and hook is for the entire fleet, won’t necessarily reflect what you’re going be doing. Best advice I ever got was remember they are telling you the fleet average, bigger the fleet the easier it is to have impressive numbers

I drove for Crete was not that impressed with their regional. I wanted to avg 2k miles a week they never did that for me. In fact one of the office guys told me you will never get 2k miles a week as a regional driver.
I get t-call loads but they are always preplanned. So I know ahead of time. They usually run me Arkansas and west. I'll pickup up a load and take it to a terminal in east Texas so I can turn around and drive in the part of the country that I agreed to when I started.
I like what you said about being able to refuse a load with crete, when I was with werner I refused a load and because of that I sat for 3 days until I got another load, I'm sure it was because I had refused a load, and I wasn't a person to refuse many loads

If you switch to the reefer division you will have more drop and hook, more money and shippers and consignee are bigger and easier to find. In and out

I went right into deck work by the mile. But soon jumped to deck by commission and oversize and only ran cross border.... was able to start taking home 10k a month on average.

I'm about 80% drop and hook. But I'm dedicated so it is different situation. I still stay out 4-5 weeks and get good miles
Not able to use toll roads without permission, if you do it will be taken out of your pay ,must fuel at the station they give you.
I mean this in the nicest of ways. You belong in trucking or fleet management than in driving a truck.

Hi Kevin, my hubby drove for Crete, my hubby got lung cancer n to be honest I will tell you, Crete treated us with kid gloves, dr laura always made sure that dispatch always treated my Brian well, all Brian had to do was call me, n I had laura on speed dial, especially if he got sick n such. But the manager at the Des Moines terminal , because my hubby passed in 96. But I must say my Brian was for the most part treated with respect, the only time I saw that they did t time is someone got sick or something. Brian usually always had awesome equipment, good luck, stay safe. ❤❤❤❤ I know I sure miss seeing that truck in the drive when he would be home.

My fiancé left Crete a month ago after being there for 2 years. He was treated like a bottom list driver and was taken off loads making it difficult for him to pay his bills. One of his last check was $.20 because they had scheduled for his truck to get into the shop which was being completely unreasonable to work with him. They couldn’t find him a new/replacement truck, and they wouldn’t give him breakdown pay. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!
Ohhhhh. That’s bad. We’ve never heard of anything like that happening at Crete. Sorry he went through that. Hope he landed somewhere that works out much better for him.

Drove for Werner for a few months, Had about 10+ trailers that needed new tires or something. Very relatable statement there, I knew you looked familiar when i clicked. I watched your vids before starting at Werner, Now I'm with another company with only red Kenworth's. Slower but the miles are way better, you should be careful promoting a carrier. More drivers means less miles & possibly more split loads my guy. I like Crete's trailers and im a huge fan of freightliners, If something happens bad enough this video was pretty helpful. Your drop and hook percentage will go up when the freight market improves. I think Crete is having to shuffle loads around the past year because of the economy and their customers having supply chain issues. But you notice your miles stay good. They also eliminate customers who constantly delay drivers.

No they didn’t compensate for those miles below 2500 miles also got into a altercation with my previous team mate but not physically so got put on Coke regional account been on it for about a week but going back to the Hobby Lobby account gonna give it another shot also this month December makes 5 months on the road still learning of course definitely have improved in a lot of different areas. But you’re definitely right Werner is a teaching company but imma stay with them a while longer but please keep the videos coming I always appreciate the POV from another company’s perspective. 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼Also I lost 2 weeks due to my International being down for 2 weeks and them not really wanting to change my equipment which was upsetting but that breakdown pay was alright to get by on for a minute but still not acceptable. All the trucks Werner has you would think they would give you a rental car and get you to another truck. That is what Crete does. If you are going to be broke down for more than a few days they will get you a loaner to keep you rolling. Been at Crete for 21 years.
With any brand truck, it's either good or bad. Some trucks will never have issues, others will be in shop allot. Nothing to do with brand much of the time

So you keep the same trailer for 4 months do they have anything in Minnesota and what are the requirements to get hired?
You get a new trailer with each new load. Sometimes you have live unloads and use the same trailer again. But it’s rare to keep a trailer for several loads in a row.
Crete requires 8-12 months experience depending on your school and who you are driving for. And you need a good driving record. For more details check their website. 🤗

Did a stint at Werner, dedicated Budweiser Columbus OH. Ok money but eld was a pain using it for personal transportation. Their failure to respond to my messages done going home caused them issues. I’d be trucking to work at 0545, I’d get the proverbial you are violating your 10 off msg. I’d tell them to fix it or I’d go home until tomorrow, lol. They did. Did a stint with CRST, never again. IDK what they tell you they are lying. Spent most of my driving time at Able Transit out of Newark Ohio as an owner operator. They were the best.
Been watching a lot of your content lately. CDL for 3 months. Crete says 1yr required. I'm curious if Crete let's you drive your tractor home. I know Werner does and they'll take me straight out of school. Right now I drive tractor trailer for a big company consolidating freight between 4 warehouses and a main terminal in a 60 mile radius (typically two buildings a night) and load it myself. It's $30/hr 50hr weeks. But id love to drive out of state....
Thank you for watching our channel! Sounds like you have a pretty good gig. But you are right, if you want to see the country and get paid for it 0TR is a great way to do it. Crete told us that you need a minimum of six months, but then would still have to go out with the trailer. Then they said at 10 months you can come without a trainer, depending on your experience and with which company. So maybe try calling recruiting again if you are interested in Crete. As to your question, yes, Crete lets you drive your tractor home. As a matter of fact, we heard that Werner no longer allows personal conveyance. At Crete you can still use personal conveyance to get home after you’ve finished a job. That is much better!

Left in September due to severe lack of miles…8300mi a month..never turned down loads and staying out 6weeks..i know for a fact there is drivers there that will not run more than 350-400mi a day..they cater to those drivers evidently…
We are so sorry to hear that it didn’t work out for you at Crete. I know it’s too late now, and we hope you found something else that you are happy with, but here’s an insight for your.
Kevin’s asset manager told Kevin that he can turn down loads that are unproductive…and Kevin does. Not sure what the ‘planner’ is thinking sometimes with the load assignments. Kevin will turn down unproductive loads that would cost him too much time between loads. So you were trying to be a good cooperative employee taking all the load assignments…and that cost you miles. Hopefully this insight can help you in the future. We had an old timer at Werner tell us to remember that the ‘Fleet Manager’ is not our boss, but rather that they are the driver’s partner. It’s tough getting out of the ‘employee’ mindset, but we keep reminding ourselves that Kevin and his asset manager work as a team and Kevin has a say in the loads he accepts. Anyway, just thought I’d share that detail with you. Hopefully where you are now is going well for you!! Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!
@@TheJoyofTrucking I have screenshots of the load planners absolutely get smart ass with me because I turn down 500 mile 2 and a half day loads… Management there absolutely sucks. I have text messages from Erick cutter the president of Shaffer and he basically blows off any concerns after? He asked why I left… It’s no wonder a lot of these trucking companies get away with the crap that they do because they have people that will turn around and bow to them and get on their knees for them and not believe anything is happening even if it’s happening to them right front of their face… I have dozens and dozens of screenshots from the PeopleNet app, showing the messages on how rude they got, and when you have an asset manager that talks to you like a two-year-old because she thinks she knows more than you do as a driver which I’ve been driving for more than 25 years and management does nothing about it again that shows just how bad management is and how little they give a darn about the drivers because they have drivers come along. A dime a dozen they don’t care… All the crap that is going on over there now whatever never happen under Dwayne Acklie why do I say that because I work for Shaffer back with Dwayne acklie ran the day to day operations and he would’ve fired half the people in Lincoln for that crap… Crete is just another mega carrier on the same level of warner, swift US, Xpress, etc.

Depends what you mean by ‘safe.’ Safety is their number one concern. With at least a year experience they think you are a good driver. Officially you are there for expected to have the skill to do all loads that are assigned to you. But I would think if you build up a good relationship with your asset manager you can talk to them about it. If it’s unproductive in terms of time you definitely can talk to them about it.
would they even offer you a load that runs the risk of being late? Are they looking at the feasibility of that preplanned load or is that all on you in which case you might not have the time to assess that preplan til you have time to stop
What's the policy on toll roads? Do they make you go on the little roads to avoid them? Are your routes and fuel stops dictated?
Do you prefer to start with company driver then go for a lease operator after in Crete?

Hey there! Kevin is out of DeLand, FL. As far as we know it makes no difference. Our thinking is that it’s convenient because you can park the truck at a terminal and are close to home and also have work done on it there while you are home.

That is an achievement you can be proud of! Yes, Kevin got his CDL with the Phoenix Truck Driving Institute just around the corner. Lol! So we know the neighborhood! ;-)
You have a number of opportunities to start driving for companies based in Phoenix. Kevin did his first year with Werner, but there are other options for you as well. Werner has its issues, but we thought it was a good place to start and they provided a lot of training opportunities. Everybody has different priorities for choosing their company. It seems to us that a lot of the companies that take new drivers will have a very steep learning curve, but will give you the opportunity to get experience. Once you have 6 to 12 months experience, you will have a lot more options and the ability to earn better money. So you just have to learn as much as possible and stay the course during your first 6 to 12 months. Kevin stayed with Werner one year. He is now finishing his first year at Crete. He is much happier here and making much better money! You can call Crete recruiting (1-800-998-2221) and find out what their minimum required experience is right now. They have different options, as far as we know. Like maybe with six months experience if you go out with their trainer. Otherwise we’ve heard 10 months, though their website says one year. So best to ask a recruiter. We don’t think they take rookies with no experience. Unfortunately. We definitely recommend Crete as soon as you can get here. We meet LOTS of long term drivers here who say it’s the best company they’ve worked for. And we are also happy and see no reason to change companies. Best of luck! Let us know what you decide to do.
This was an interesting video but imo you have to step away from the large fleets and go to a smaller size carrier. I personally say 50 or less trucks. Business models change fast once a company grows large. Usually for the worst and they get more exploitive

The bad thing with the crete mechanics in all the terminals is they refuse pretty much to fill up or check your tire pressure level. Most of the companies I worked for just do that automatically without having to ask. Another thing is they like to micromanage your climate in your truck. For example if it's winter time and you're in Florida for home time or working and you have to use your air conditioner, you'll have Lenoir City calling you prepondered on why you are not with their national average. Even an explanation is just not good enough you'll just have to sweat it out partner.

Not sure. We’ve never needed it. Maybe a more experienced driver could chime in. You get detention pay after 2 hours and then it switches to layover at some point.

Re your live load numbers:. If you think of a load as two events, i.e. pickup/drop off or load/unload, let's call your 88 loads as *really* 176 events, or possibilities of live or not live loads. You say 51 (of 88) had one or the other (or both) events as live, but now thinking in these terms what is the actual number? How many of those loads were live at the beginning AND at the end? A few? Ok, let's say you had, idk, 60 live events. Now you're almost exactly at that 30% marker, and maybe that's what Crete meant. 🤷

Hey there!!! Everything was spot on, except she thought we’d be able to store truck at a customer’s yard in Buffalo to head to Canada for a vacation. That turned out not to work out. We got a storage spot ourselves. But everything else was true as she told us. Very satisfied.

How does the routing work ,they which way to go or is it up to you
They assign you loads. You do not determine your loads. You can turn them down for being unproductive but not for their destination. Then they have a suggested route. You can drive differently but only make the miles for the route they suggested unless there are serious circumstances of being rerouted long ways due to accidents for example. You can run different routes but preferably not toll roads. You’d also need to use their fuel solution or ask for a new one if you’re on a different route.

Crete is FORCED DISPATCH. You cannot deny a load if you legally have time to complete the load. But they pick and choose which drivers they enforce those rules with.
Also, truck swap after 12 hours in shop is a pain. No layover pay.

Crete is a good company but I didn’t make a lot there, I probably averaged 2400 miles a week, the small company I’m at now I run 3k or more a week, I ran 4500 miles this week.. but if you’re a new driver I’d definitely suggest Crete or CFI
