With a name like Paper Doll I was expecting a Silver Age character, but this is a nice twist. It feels like a modern take on the Newspaper Man from the Wonder Woman comics.
I was ready to comment that last part, lol. Wonder Woman's Paper man and Spider-Man's Paper Doll are so similar even in motivation that I would not be surprised if the writer took inspiration from that Golden Age WW story (th-cam.com/video/9h3KmctFCLg/w-d-xo.html). I mean it would be far from the first time DC and Marvek ripped off of each other. I'd only be surprised that they went for a very obscure character for inspiration.
As a spider-man fan i can perhaps give some insight as to why she got forgotten. Its because she's tied to a one off mj love interest in a story that ONLY existed to push mj away as a love interest from peter during BND...thus there really arent many people interested in revisiting her at all.
I never knew who was this character was before watching this video. I believe Paperdoll is probably is the most unsettling looking villain and how she kills her victim is pretty disturbing as well. She turning her victim into flat bodies is as terrifying as the third Clayface turning his victims into muds.
I love this character. Disturbing and slightly sympathetic. I think the reason she was obsessed with the actor was because he was her escape from the constant bickering of her parents (and possibly kept her "sane" when she transformed for the first time) I love to see her join a new version of the sinister six.
I had never heard of this character, and wow! Just loved her design and powers, she has so much potential, she just needs a better origin. And to help her not fall into repetition, she could kill or give up on Bobby and eventually find someone else to stalk and be obsessed with , that could make her even more scarier and tragic too, a loner who needs an obsession to be happy and complete.
She kinda looks like a yurei ( Japanese ghost ) when at first glance to me especially the ones from ringu/the ring and ju-on/the grudge and reminds me of a art depiction of a yurei coming out of a piece of paper scarring the crap out of a guy
When I read the arc, I was definitely intrigued by Paper Doll and saw a lot of potential in her stalker characterisation and body horror powers. That just feels like a strong combination for a villain. The backstory was disappointingly handled since it’s just so vague and rushed - we’ve got the basic why but not the how, not even a flashback to give us anything to work with. So I’m really surprised to learn that there’s just so little of her put out. I always saw that she could have been brought back in stories like her trying to be cured, her relationship with her parents, her mental health or twists to her powers. Maybe manipulated into joining supervillain groups under the impression it’s for Bobby’s sake. Or even breaking away from her obsession and figuring out what to do with herself, which could lead to her latching onto someone else or something new that gives her purpose and self-justification in doing bad things. Like, finding an art museum to be a place where she belongs, feeling like she can blend in perfectly and be appreciated there, not seen as a freak and thus winds up killing people trying to endanger it, or at least how she sees it.
Paper Doll could been a J-horror caricature to fight Ghost Rider/Ketch or a Midnight Son's contender in the right story. She could been a X-Men threat on the side.
Now this is an awesome character with loads of potential. Her design is good, her powers are cool and make her a good threat, and she has a personality suited for both creepy and tragic stories. The only problems I see, which you pointed out in this video, are A) she could use a more detailed origin, and B) she lacks longevity. Hmm… what to do with such a character? Well, I have an idea. Keep the stalker and need to “protect” the person she’s obsessed with, but make that person Spider-Man himself. Y’see, what I like about Paper Doll as she exists is that she can strike at Spider-Man personally through MJ. She’s the person he loves most (or maybe not, thanks for breaking something good, One More Day), so if she goes after MJ because she thinks she’s the one Peter belongs with, then you could have some more longevity and an emotional core for these stories. I have a potential origin in mind for her, based on this obsessed Spider-Man stalker iteration. For this version, you could say she went to school with Peter Parker. She would’ve been a loner kid like Peter used to be, but she was even worse off. She wasn’t even noticeable enough to get bullied, she faded into the background a lot, and even her teachers barely noticed her or remembered her name. Her parents, while not being neglectful, mainly kept to themselves, mainly socializing with Piper at dinner. They were generally pretty wrapped up in their own lives, and didn’t have a lot of time for her. She never really grew out of her lonely shy phase, but there was one person she could count on, and that was Peter Parker. He was the only one she could count on. He would talk to her sometimes, and they enjoyed each other’s company, and Piper developed a crush on Peter, although she never told him because she was afraid of rejection, and he often had other commitments, so they never became best friends. Still, Piper never forget Peter, and as she grew she began to feel more and more distant from humanity, feeling more alone, except for Peter, whom she still clung to as her best friend and soulmate, and she actually lives on the same block as him. Eventually, after Spider-Man appears, she becomes interested in his heroic exploits, admiring him for his heroism and selflessness. She is even saved by Spider-Man during a battle with a villain, maybe Hammerhead, although he doesn’t initially recognize her. After Spidy wins, he heads home, and Piper decides to follow him. He’s injured, and thus isn’t at the top of his game, and doesn’t realize that she is following him. She then is shocked to learn that her crush is Spider-Man, and at this point her love for Peter becomes an obsession. She follows him around, and start to develop mild hallucinations and fantasies about Peter saying he loves her and that they belong together, and is overjoyed when he and Betty Brant don’t end up working out as a couple. Eventually, we learn that Piper’s parents are scientists working for Silvermaine and the Maggia. Silvermaine has forced Piper’s parents to make weapons for the Maggia by threatening to kill Piper. When Silvermaine decides to have the family move from the block they’re on to a more distant and less populated area, Piper learns of Silvermaine’s involvement in her family’s lives. She snaps after learning that not only will she be forced to move away from her “soulmate”, but also that her family has been involved with one of Peter’s most deadly enemies. She learns of one of her parents’ prototype inventions, a machine that gives the user the ability to turn two-dimensional and blend in with their surroundings. She heard her parents mention that it could be ready for human testing, so she decides to give herself superpowers, become a superhero, team up with Spider-Man, defeat Silvermaine, and she and Spidy could become an official couple. However, when she uses the machine it malfunctions, and she is stuck in a paper-like state for an extended period of time. Her parents decide to hide this from the public and try to turn her back to normal, with funding from Silvermaine who wants the machine to be safe for human use so the Maggia can use it for crime. Since Piper is in that state stuck in their house for years, she doesn’t know about Peter’s relationship with Gwen Stacy, Gwen’s death, and Peter’s relationship with MJ. By the time her parents are able to bring her back to relative a relatively normal state, although she still has powers, the shock from the initial transformation, the years of built up instability, the time spent as basically a living piece of paper, and her learning about MJ causes her to fully snap and become a full-on stalker supervillain. During her time in her 2D state, she learned how to trap other people in a 2D state, killing them. She adopts the identity of Paper Doll, and sets out on a mission to protect Peter, rid the world of anyone who would harm him, and become his soulmate. She could target his villains, his former bullies, and of course MJ. She never reveals Peter’s secret identity to anyone out of fear of someone hurting him, but she does continue to know it. Okay, so this origin likely has some holes in it, you’d need to retcon the celebrity guy she was obsessed with out of her past, but I think this could really work. It would certainly help her longevity, and make her even more of a personal threat to Spider-Man. It could even lead to some moral dilemma stories where Spidy has to protect his villains from an insane villain he doesn’t want to hurt and actually has some good intentions. Let me know what you guys think of this origin, and if you’d change anything about it.
Holy cow, that's retold of Paper Doll's origin sound very interesting, my man. Imagine her reaction of Miles Morales, kinda imagine her believing Miles disgracing the mantle of Spider-Man and possibly have her to be part of Miles' rogues gallery. That's would be interesting to see Miles dealing with someone who is a obsessive fan of the original Spider-Man.
The powers and design of her are interesting and terrifying, but her linked to Bobby Carr is not that interesting and can only work for a limited time which is probably why she vanished. I think she could be used more tragically of wanting a cure or mentally snapping and wanting the world to be 2 D like herself given she’s so lonely being a 2D person, but kills anyone she tries to have join her.
Her connection to Bobby Carr doesn't necessarily have to be removed. I mean you could do a story where she stalks MJ to find out why Bobby liked her so that Paper Doll can get Bobby to like her. Or she could be committing robberies to hire Mysterio so he can build a replica of one of Bobby's movies and trap Carr in it forever and ever.
The way I see Paper Doll from avoiding story limitations is just moving onto other people to stalk, I think that concept has a lot of potential for a lot of good stories with the variety of different people she would obsess over, maybe Piper would even find someone who loves her, until something bad happens between the two. Her backstory really needs improvement though LOL maybe it could be like a Sandman or Mr. Freeze-type origin.
Yeah, Mr Freeze commits crimes to try and save his dying wife and Sandman commits his to afford the proper medical care for his dying daughter, there are villains whose motivations are justifiable
Maybe in another incarnation she could be obsessed with Spider-man. That would play into the whole stalker angle as well as give some much needed replay value to her motivations
Geez, that's one unsettling concept: someone who can turn themselves and other people into paper. That's creepy and has so much potential. Her origin is pretty lame tho and kinda laughable. Like she gets into a lab accident off panel and then we see her parents argue about it like if her dad forgot to bring her to soccer practice. Way to kill the tension, guys! Personally I would love to see her return, maybe she gets a hold of Bobby Carr now that his acting career is down the drain and goes all "Misery" on him and Spider-Man or someone else needs to do some detective work to locate them. Maybe you could also upgrade her abilities so that she can choose to keep someone alive while inflated.
I think the point the comic was trying to make with the parents arguing is that they are neglectful of her and care more about their bickering and careers than their daughter. Which would explain why she obsesses over actors on her television, because she sees them giving the love and attention her parents refused to give her. Which also would be parallel to her powers, she obsesses over figuratively and literal 2-dimensional people on her TV screen, so she becomes 2-dimensional herself. I do believe if that was the case it was a bit too subtle for a story about people with superpowers and colorful costumes, but I think that was what they were trying to imply with those panels.
A love story between two creeps, that fit each other, where Spiderman mistakenly tries to save the guy from his love intrest. A guy just as obsessed with their cat and mouse game, even breaking her out of confinement, no matter the cost of innocent lives... Two obsessions amplifying eachother, could be fun.

She's no Black Cat or White Rabbit (now I want to see those two meet!), but Paper Doll certainly has potential. Sounds like a perfect candidate for a Sinister Six, in my opinion. Say someone manipulates her by promising to make her fantasies of Bobby reality, in exchange for her assistance. Could see my fanon Spider rogue, the Terroriser, doing something like that. It would be further ironic if the one manipulating Paper Doll turns out to be Quinten Beck.
That was a pretty cool character. I thought that she was going to be lame like Paper Man, and that she too was from an earlier era. I agree that she needs to have more stores and eventually kill Carr. I was wondering how long she was on that van, I think she may have adhesive powers too.
This is the sort of character i really like because she is so creepy looking - she could even work well in a film if the creepy style was used in a live action sense (like that of a japanese ghost film) although without too much CGI as that can ruin the illusion. - She should also team up with DC'S Paper Man.
Interesting character I've never heard of! I'd like to see her in a Spider-Man cartoon series if only because I think her powers could make for some very cool visuals in animation.
I remember Paper Doll. Like a lot of Brand New Day villains, she had a neat gimmick, but not really much replay value, especially due to her obsession with a lame celebrity. Still, her power-set is really cool. I'd like to see her in animation, but an actual well-animated show.
They could definitely do more with this character and if they really don't want to use her in stories anymore they should just do one more that gives us an ending to her story
She has cool powers and I really like her design, but as Mr. Rogues said: the story lacks. She really need to be more fleshed out and something more into her. Her obsession of Bobby Carrs is kinda lack luster and she either needs to have some more motivation or something total different. Her entire plot is flat (no pun intended) and it feels like a huge waste of a character to have this story and so much question unanswered. I honestly have no Idea what else they could do with her, because it's such big empty space for more in the character and you basically could add into whatever. She is litterly an unfinished character. Paper Doll does look to be a goth, so maybe I have an idea of her backstory. This is just a concept, so give me slack. Piper always been alone and kept her emotion away from other people. She believe everyone is hypocrites and would never risk their life to save someone. When she saw a movie of Bobby, she kept her emotion in but something about the movie and his character overwhelmed Piper. On her way home from the cinema, a crook tried to rob her. She told him she didn't have any money on her, but he don't believe her and whack her in the head. Some guy finds her unconsiouss and take her to the hospital. The guy kinda looks like Bobby Carrs ( look at his picture in 4:28 ) and she hallucinate it is Bobby who is saving her. With brain injury, supressed feelings and this misunderstanding make her believe she is in some kinda love story with Bobby. This made her mother worried, while dad is busy with his job. After an accident at the lab (related with a fight with Spider-man against some villain), Piper's dad had to work at home. Piper, being still confused, wanted to put on a movie with Bobby and accidently activate her dad's experiment. This would of course trigger her, already broken, mind to go to overboards. She runs from home and back there the comic starts. This could maybe create an even bigger story for her (maybe). She maybe snaps out from it and try to find the actual guy who saved her. Or, as Marvel kinda tried on her second appearance, try to kill Mary Jane like Michael Myers to all his relatives. Not sure what more we could make cause she feels unfinished and we could think of anything to add to her character and story. She kinda feels to be a member for a team, maybe Thunderbolts.
She could be that type of character who just falls in love with random people and get obsessed with them until they find someone better. Imagine a comic where she is obsessed with Peter Parker, maybe she even find out his secret identity, that would make an interesting story
Nah, she should be scared of Freddy Krueger. I remember that in one of those movies, a guy got turned into a literal paper man and Freddy cut him into pieces, killing him painfully.
Alright with the whole MJ stuff, I blame Brand New Day. The fact Peter going to Mephisto. After all that, Peter and MJ couldn’t get their relationship right, even back then they couldn’t. Back then they did work it through the rough patches, now it’s a mess more then ever before.
There's a pretty obvious way of telling more Paper Doll stories, I'd say: extend her obsession to other people. That DOES happen with stalkers; you get people who are super-obsessive about one celebrity or other, and then something happens to 'blacken' him or her in their eyes, and they become equally as obsessed with someone else. I'm also reminded of the '90's thriller, 'The Crush', where this mentally unstable teenage girl becomes dangerously obsessed with her family's new lodger, only to, at the end, be transferred to a mental facility, where the last time we see her, she's transferred her obsession to the hunky young doctor in charge of curing her. You could easily pull off something similar with Paper Doll. Poor Piper just wants someone - ANYONE - to love, and she'll transfer her obsession to any likely candidate who might happen to appear. There's a pretty good kick-off point for this: have Bobby Carr die, which puts her into a tailspin; she frantically refuses to accept it. He CAN'T have died! Not without the two of them getting together! That's not how this WORKS! No, no, Bobby isn't dead - because 'Bobby' can be ANYWHERE, you see; he didn't DIE, he's just someone else now. He's in another body, you see. He's... he's... THAT guy! That handsome new celebrity lawyer who everyone's talking about! Her one true love, just like it always was! And so on and so forth. ANYONE, potentially, could be her new one-and-only - maybe, eventually, even Spidey himself.
Now imagine if that "handsome new celebrity lawyer" was Matt murdock aka daredevil. I think it be more interesting if instead of her new Bobby being spider-man, it's peter parker.
Wow. What an interesting character. You have to wonder if Piper was mentally ill before she gained her powers, or if the accident amplified something small and turned it into something monsterous. Personally, I'd like to see her return, having gotten some psychological help, and maybe trying to make amends for her past by becoming an anti-hero. Just a thought .
Batman and Spider-Man really need more female villains so I am in support of them bringing this character back. Since most of the current ones are either not used or portrayed as heroic anti-heroes for both characters.
You could have her stalking guys similar to Bobby Carr because they represent a past crush she wanted but couldn't have for some reason. She might be looking for her ideal type but kill men that don't meat her expectations or those she sees as competition.
I would like to see any video your willing to make about public domain characters. Like you forgotten heroes. Specifically I would like a quick top 10 of public domain heroes but different hero’s than the other TH-cam videos I’ve seen
Hey Rogues here is an ideas for forgotten super villains if you want :Southpaw from She Hulk comics from the 2000s, and 8 ball from Marvel comics who was once recurring but has faded into the back ground...
Yeah, she was one of the first new villains after One More Day. The controversy was bad enough, but Peter came off like a real jerk for a while afterwards.
Hey Mr Rogues, since you are making videos about rogues, why don't you make videos about real life rogues? U know real life serial killers , like Ted Bundy or 1600s pirates like Francois l'Ollonais or other real life outlaws and stuff.
I would not min seeing her return , They really should flush her outmore, her abilities do remind me of a villain from Jackie Chan adventures called origami air designers to mix between the grudge and ink from Batman beyond
It will be better if she's a mutant and even better that she has a huge crush of Peter Parker since they were kids and have have been the background around Peter for years since they were friends before Peter forget about her when he meet Harry and Gwen which will leave a rivalry with her and Gwen.
I personally didn't like this character at all. I thought her design was laughable and her motivations to be incredibly dull and one note. In my opinion, Paper Doll only serves as reminder of how bad Dan Slott's run on Spider-Man could get and I'm perfectly fine if she never appears again.
With a name like Paper Doll I was expecting a Silver Age character, but this is a nice twist.

I was ready to comment that last part, lol. no wonder she doesn't come to the Spiderman animated series killing people is very dark
Yeah, they're both rather tragic characters
She could return just wanting revenge on Spider-Man.
@@renosh1323 perhaps so
I love this character. Disturbing and slightly sympathetic. I think the reason she was obsessed with the actor was because he was her escape from the constant bickering of her parents (and possibly kept her "sane" when she transformed for the first time)

She would be a good candidate for a live-action movie villain.
Spider-Mans rogues gallery really needs more female representation.

She sounds like a very underrated supervillainess in the Marvel universe. Paper Cut should get mpre attention. I hope they introduce her into the MCU
She sounds like someone who could be in Arkham Asylum.
It’s good to see more forgotten villain videos

I do believe if that was the case it was a bit too subtle for a story about people with superpowers and colorful costumes, but I think that was what they were trying to imply with those panels.
They already did that story with Mary Jane and her stalker(s)
Oh my God! A new Mr. Rouges! He's back officially! ❤️

She'd even be one of the Kingpin's more successful assassins
That was a pretty cool character. I thought that she was going to be lame like Paper Man, and that she too was from an earlier era. I agree that she needs to have more stores and eventually kill Carr.
I was wondering how long she was on that van, I think she may have adhesive powers too.
new forgotten villain video! aw yes boy
This is the sort of character i really like because she is so creepy looking - she could even work well in a film if the creepy style was used in a live action sense (like that of a japanese ghost film) although without too much CGI as that can ruin the illusion. - She should also team up with DC'S Paper Man.
Maybe so
Interesting character I've never heard of! I'd like to see her in a Spider-Man cartoon series if only because I think her powers could make for some very cool visuals in animation.
Oh god i really missed forgotten supervillains please do more of this.
THANK YOU!! Your audio is so much better again. 😍
If you grew up with relatives from Germany, the celebrity being called "Bobby Car" sure has a different ring to it. #childhoodmemories
Her worst enemy is Batman’s eraser.
Nah, she should be scared of Freddy Krueger. I remember that in one of those movies, a guy got turned into a literal paper man and Freddy cut him into pieces, killing him painfully.
Great to have you back, Rogues.
Alright with the whole MJ stuff, I blame Brand New Day. The fact Peter going to Mephisto. After all that, Peter and MJ couldn’t get their relationship right, even back then they couldn’t. Back then they did work it through the rough patches, now it’s a mess more then ever before.
I couldn't agree more!
@@MWhaleK You know he could go to Dr.Strange and ask him to “fix his problem”.
Nice to have you back man
Now here's a villain I've been waiting years for someone to talk about
Odd how you never mentioned that she’s like another character you covered in this series, Paper Man.
Imagine if Paper Doll became an obsessed stalker of Spider-Man. That would make an interesting story.
Tbh if they just made her a Mutant and they’d make a bit more sense
Aah mutants. The perfect characters for lazy writers. No origin needed, just born that way...BORING.
Paper Doll is an interesting character with potential.
Like you I love two face but I was wondering if you like drawing and if you are good at it
Just a thought
.
I think she might of been a mutant or inhuman who was ignored by her parents and hid from the world and developed an obsession of a celebrity
Cool goth paper girl, I love her design!
Batman and Spider-Man really need more female villains so I am in support of them bringing this character back. Since most of the current ones are either not used or portrayed as heroic anti-heroes for both characters.
4:43 She's probably just a crazed celebrity fangirl.
JoJo with [Vitamin C] and [Soft Machine] showed how scary her ability can be used in combat. I do hope she returns.
You could have her stalking guys similar to Bobby Carr because they represent a past crush she wanted but couldn't have for some reason. She might be looking for her ideal type but kill men that don't meat her expectations or those she sees as competition.
It's a real Shame that We Don't Get Too See Paper Doll Anymore She's Got a Lot Of Potential
Please do harm from Young Justice next
Nice goth desing, but her motivation (being a stan) sounds so familiar.
if I were to write her story, I'd imagine she would already be obsessed with bobby carr and actually saved him from the particle destabilizer
Paper Doll and Wonder Woman's Paper Man would make a great couple. Besides, both were analized by Mr. Rogues.
I would like to see any video your willing to make about public domain characters.
Like you forgotten heroes.
Specifically I would like a quick top 10 of public domain heroes but different hero’s than the other TH-cam videos I’ve seen
I had seen Paper Doll in my Spiderman Encyclopedia 📚🤓! So I remember this Spiderman villain!!!
Same
Very interesting character. Very creepy too.
I could see her going after people who give Bobby a Razzie now that he isn't viewed as a shinning star making the only films he could lower grade.
Batman’s old villain The Rainbow Creature has the same power, plus three other powers.
Marvel seems to have a bad habbit of creating interesting new villains and never using most of them again.
I know right
Paper Doll is new to me.
Paper Doll is one of The Spiderman Villains that doesn't Appeard in the Tier List Video 😂
Hey Rogues here is an ideas for forgotten super villains if you want :Southpaw from She Hulk comics from the 2000s, and 8 ball from Marvel comics who was once recurring but has faded into the back ground...
Yes
She's LITERALLY shallow.
I mean her character is literally 2 dimentional xD
Never got a video on Catman are u ever gonna do it?
i like crazy characters
so relatable
A stalker who obsessed with a celebrity yeah better then just being evil
Yeah, she was one of the first new villains after One More Day. The controversy was bad enough, but Peter came off like a real jerk for a while afterwards.
Surprised this is a marvel character. I want to see her and White Rabbit team up
reminds me of the dc character Folding man
Wall-Crawler vs Wallpaper
Well that’s definitely different
Why does it feel like Paper Doll needs help and MJ actually is more questionable?
Hey Mr Rogues, since you are making videos about rogues, why don't you make videos about real life rogues? U know real life serial killers , like Ted Bundy or 1600s pirates like Francois l'Ollonais or other real life outlaws and stuff.
An interesting twist
I would not min seeing her return , They really should flush her outmore, her abilities do remind me of a villain from Jackie Chan adventures called origami air designers to mix between the grudge and ink from Batman beyond
You just wait til Jackie's niece, Jade joins the Teen Titans
I don't know why Marvel didn't use her in the Ultimate Spiderman cartoon, or Marvel's Spiderman (2017).
Why use new villains when you can recycle old villains like dr octopus and the sinister six
Yeah, weird, I guess Disney's run by retards in this case
best batman writer runs?
cant believe they mad Mr. fantastic a goth girl
They only should change her human Design: she looks like a copy of Raven from „Teen Titans“.
It will be better if she's a mutant and even better that she has a huge crush of Peter Parker since they were kids and have have been the background around Peter for years since they were friends before Peter forget about her when he meet Harry and Gwen which will leave a rivalry with her and Gwen.
@@EmeraldThingy Just an idea.
@@EmeraldThingy Whatever. I'll stick with it.
Then we'd have another member of Magneto's cause
@@damianprock1650 Yeah after facing Spider-Man
@@dontemorgan1517 true
You make "sardonic" fun again! Now make videos again.. because they're fun.
I personally didn't like this character at all. I thought her design was laughable and her motivations to be incredibly dull and one note. In my opinion, Paper Doll only serves as reminder of how bad Dan Slott's run on Spider-Man could get and I'm perfectly fine if she never appears again.
