    I bought a MVP3 stainless put it on my Duramax and plowed 8 miles across Mille Lacs lake in Febuary. 4 Tire chains and was having to give it a lot of throttle in 4 low. I had rolls of snow higher than my truck hood. Was super impressive. I've had it for 8 years now and it still looks brand new (doesn't see salt) What sold me on Western was the chain so it can float better and stack higher and nothing to go wrong. I also liked the added structure. Compression springs just make way more sense.

    notice that on the trip blade test the boss plow was going way faster than western

    • @sunxil3534
      @sunxil3534 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      agree, and do you notice that western hardly trip but jump up when hit the obstruction, which means that if you plow with western in normal speed, your teeth will tell you the truth when hitting obstacle

      even the speed test was biassed considering the boss has rams triple the size and strength of the western(hmm wonder which ones will last for a decade and which ones will start to leak and fail because they are under built)

    I’ve used both western and boss I like them both they are top notch plows the boss it’s bit more complicated to take off and put it in the western it takes less than a minute.
    I’ve used western for the last 8 years it never let me down the only thing went bad on it in 8 years was the controller
    I just bought another truck with western mvp3 plow I absolutely love it

    So basically this is an advert for Western Plow. Biased load of crap which is basically saying don't buy a boss plow they are crap, buy a western they are amazing.

    Western is better than boss, but speed should not be in the cards, when plowing, take your time and be safe, a few seconds will not matter, it's always the great job you do, and best job.

    as a former western plow dealer, it was very frustrating to sell a plow, or even worse, a customer would have say a western plow on a 2003 GMC THAT WAS STILL IN GOOD SHAP, BUT THE TRUCK WAS TIRED, SO HE BUYS A 2009 GMC, WELL THE WESTERN PLOW THE WAY THEY ARE MADE TODAY is some cases you could buy a 2200$ conversion kit to work on the newer 2009, but most times you don't have that option, witch means buying a whole new 7000$ plow now, not like back in the day were you could take a western plow take it off a 1980 ford f250 and in a few hours have it up and running on a 1985 ford f150 and out plowing, not the case any more, so if you change trucks, be ready to be cash grab in the market when you replace the truck, as you will be buying a whole new plow, not just a mod to the hook up on the truck, I would never put a plow on a new truck, there not built to take it, if you plow a lot be ready for a front end re-build after every winter, never mind your box bolts all stretched out and raddling

    I've had both and am 100% convinced that when I went to Boss 9'2" Power Vee after having Westerns, there was no going back - not even with Westerns attempt to compete. I can plow lots to "military specs", to all corners, stacking as high and able to push back as far as I need without needing to load my bobcat up and bring with me to clear corners. Boss is BOSS - that's why it's called THE BOSS! :-)

    I have owned Fisher v - plows for over 11 years and was very satisfied. I just purchased a new Fisher extreme v2 and am very dissatisfied with how noisy the blade is. The blade clatters so loudly that it caused a few of my tenants to come out of their homes enquiring about the noise. I called the manufacture and they suggested felt or silicone between the ribs and face board. If anyone else has had the same problem, and you have fixed it, please share your solution with me. Other than that, the plow works great; however, if I had known about this problem, I would have purchased a Boss or Meyers. Probably a Meyers, because of the 5 year warranty and that the face board is welded to the ribs, would eliminate the loud clatter. Sorry Fisher, hopefully engineering can get this right. Other than that, you have always had a great product. Larry

    I run a Western but this just shows how good both are. The fact that they are nitpicking things on the Boss that really don't matter shows they are fairly equal. I've used a Boss plenty of times and they are great plows and probably will be my next one if this Western ever wears out.

    I had a old curtis plow on my old truck, and people can say what they want about those plows, but that plow was a BEAST.. The only issue I had with the plow was getting any service parts for it, as the dealership network is almost non existent. I got a newer truck, and went with a western plow. This is my third year with it, and most likely my last year with it. Upon installing it, I went through two light modules. I got a good one, FINALLY, then ran the plow. This year, I mounted it, and it raised and froze. The controller went into a security lock mode, and ran to my nearest dealer, about 45 minutes away so they could use a master controller on it to free it up, put mine back on it and it worked for a whole 15 minutes. As soon as I got it home, it went into a communication error mode, and wouldn't function. I called that dealer back and was told that the plow module NEVER GOES BAD, but I should diagnose it myself! Basically making me feel that because I do some minor residential usage with it, that i'm not as important as any of their commercial accounts! I can not diagnose it myself without the test harness, or I can cut wires and try to jump the plug, or borrow another controller to narrow it down. Two snow storms later, and after contacting the western plow main headquarters, that dealership got me in, and they were able to diagnose it after 3 hours finding that the module was bad! WTF?? On a 3 year old plow, one year of which we had no snow!!!! GARBAGE!!! I shouldn't have had to replace the plow module so soon! After this season is over, I plan on pulling the entire setup off my truck and selling it all. Looking at a BOSS or Meyers. Screw fisher and western!

    I've had my Boss V for 14 years and just today one spring broke. Pretty damn good! I always love how they "stack em up" against each other with huge bias! Cool!!! If I'd have watched this video before buying my plow I'd have bought 3 Westerns!!!! LOL!!!! My dad had a Western on his pickup a long time ago and it was a pile of shit. Maybe they're better now but my Dad cussing at his still lingers in my mind.

    This guy isn't biased at all, but western does have cool features, but IMO I think boss is just built better, snow plow mechanic says boss a better buy due to fewer break downs, I guess western has a electrical box that if any problem with it you have to replace the entire box which is a lot of money, overall it's all in your own perspective, they both make ya money!

    Boss hands down I had a western. I run boss now. Lots of labor. Attaching brackets removing brackets for ground clearance. If the western settles in soft or frozen ground melt. Mounting isn't easy at all. It's harder. As for theft . Why they to remember a code. I can just unplug my controller. Good luck if you want to take my plow. Unless you have a controller on you. Boss is heavier then western. That's important on commercial jobs. Scrapping a parking lot to bare pavement. To salt for the hospital. Bring any western you want. I'll bet you 500 I can stack snow higher. And push your piles back more

    Boss is and has always been the better plow. I only have a western now because that's what my grandfather wanted when he owned the business. When it comes time to buy a new plow it will be a boss! The comparison of the controllers was a complete bunch of bs. If you push in the middle of the top buttons you get scoop and middle of the bottom buttons you get vee same as middle of the left both wings operate to give you left angle and same for the other side. There's nothing better or worse about one control over the other because they all have the exact same functions. I guess one better benefit would be that boss does it with only 5 switches so it's less parts to wear out.

  • @marcjudd3882
    @marcjudd3882 11 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I have personal experience with both brands. My first V-plow blade was a Western and I liked it.....BUT I bought a new truck later, so bought another Western V Plow (BIG MISTAKE!!!).
    Here's what changed....I found out later, WESTERN COPIED BOSS'S DESIGN FOR BLADE TRIP ACTION ON MY EARLIER PLOW (that's why my first Western worked so well---it was a Boss design). BOSS TOOK WESTERN TO COURT FOR PATENT INFRINGEMENT AND WON!!...so WESTERN COULD NO LONGER USE BOSS'S TRIP DESIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    So, after losing in court, WESTERN REDESIGNED THEIR PLOW WITH THE VERY POOR "TRIP EDGE SYSTEM". The trip edge system allows only the bottom 6 inches of the blade to trip and the rest of the plow stays put.....THIS SOUNDS GOOD ON PAPER, BUT WESTERN'S DESIGN DOES NOT WORK!!
    So...when I bought a 2nd Western, it had the "TRIP EDGE SYSTEM". YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THIS....IN THE NORMAL PROCESS OF PUSHING SNOW, THE WESTERN "TRIP EDGE SYSTEM" WILL INDEED TRIP, EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVEN'T STRUCK AN OBSTACLE!! So, you'll be pushing snow and the WEIGHT of the snow (NOT AN OBSTACLE), WILL TRIP THE BLADE. With the bottom 6 inches of your blade tripped, snow builds up under the front of your truck and you are soon stuck. I contacted WESTERN many times about this, since it was under warranty and was told it was working AS DESIGNED!!!
    SO AFTER HAVING THIS WESTERN FOR 2 MONTHS....I TRADED IT FOR A BOSS POWER V AND HAVE HAD ZERO PROBLEMS. (I lost $750 in the trade, but it was worth it).
    WESTERN IS A SLEAZY COMPANY....THEY STOLE BOSS'S DESIGN AND THEY GOT CAUGHT. THEY TREATED ME LIKE DIRT AS A CUSTOMER....
    EVERYTHING IN THIS VIDEO IS A FLAT OUT LIE!!! DO NOT PURCHASE WESTERN....I COULD GO INTO DETAIL ABOUT THE OTHER LIES IN THIS VIDEO, BUT THE BIGGEST IS THE "TRIP EDGE ISSUE".
    I LOVE MY BOSS POWER V AND HAVE HAD IT FOR 7 YEARS NOW...ZERO PROBLEMS! FEEL FREE TO ASK QUESTIONS ON THIS TH-cam, I WILL TRY TO RESPOND. THANK!

    • @michaelkey3915
      @michaelkey3915 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That doesn't happen. it only trips when hitting an obstacle. i've plowed with a trip edge western for years now and never a single issue. clearly you were doing something wrong or had it assembled incorrectly or something of the sort. It will NOT trip just from the weight of the snow. what a joke.

    the first plow I ever used was a fisher and it was the greatest thing since the invention of the wheel. damn thing was older than I was but it was damn good. if I was smart back then I would have pulled it off the old jimmy and found another truck but at the time both the truck and plow was 28 years old and the truck was literally falling apart around the plow. now I have a piece of shit Meyer and this thing sucks out loud. ALL but 2 of the factory welds have broken on it and it is so unreliable I have hung it up for the winter (thankfully I only plow my renter, my sisters, there kids and myself) because of the extreme unreliable nature of the Meyer I have now I did not do any "for hire" jobs this year. so now I'm in the market for a new plow to go on my recently purchased suburban and I don't feel like driving 100 miles one way to the nearest fisher dealer so I'm looking at western (witch is the sister company to fisher) and I have looked at boss plows. I like the chain system for one big reason. In case shit goes wrong I can chain it up and get it home. I've been plowing for a long time and I have learned a lot but the important one is no matter what plow and truck combo you have if it can go wrong it will go wrong and it will never happen 1 pm Monday a block from NAPA. it will happen 20 miles out of town at 8 pm. a guy could ratchet strap the plow up but I have had those fail too. I haven't made my final choice but those are my 2 top picks. western has the chain system witch I love but the dealer is 30 miles away. the only advantage boss has for me is the dealer is 5 miles away. western has twice the warranty boss is offering so I'm leaning toward western. but still weighing the decision.

    unless you do eleventeen driveways a day, how are they cost effective they cost more than 2 of my trucks and I plow miles of driveways.

      I've got a snoway 29 and boss super duty. I'll take my snoway over the boss, I actually have to fight my dad for that truck. It is so much quieter and smoother than our boss. And it has down preassure. That's just us though. Our boss is still damn good. This is definitely promoting westerns plows.

    Hit a curb that is higher than what your trip edge protects. See how that goes and report back

    Gee I wonder if this review was bias or not.. and they also compared a XT plow Not a DXT the better model. To the "top notch western"

    Watching this video makes me laugh.... they pick the small boss plow, they say it doesnt trip in the scoop mode or v mode when i know they do. and you can order the trip edge for the boss. Dont forget that boss stands behind their plows 20 times better than any other company.

    There is only one plow everyone should buy it’s not a straight blade and it’s not a V plow it’s the (boss EXT) and like boss says you get a true 10 feet when compared to your competitors just over 9 feet that would be western… Just like boss says it’s a parking lot plow… I have one and I have been plowing for 34 years and as far as I’m concerned it’s the best plow ever made!!!

    Western plows are obviously the best just don't buy it from Trux Outfitter in Ithaca New York

    You’re wrong about the straight blade control on the boss. If you hold down both buttons on the left the blades will straight blade to the left same to the right. The fewer buttons the better. Read the damn owners manual!

    this guy and his video is a JOKE. most of the features he's pointed out in the video that boss has are the very features I chose my boss blades over a western for. that's right I said blades with an s. I've been so pleased and happy with my first boss blade I purchased a second one. went from a straight blade to a v blade. so after this video to answer the mans question of which blade do I want? the boss blade.

    Good thing western let's you change plows from a vplow to a straight blade by just switching out my control, oh wait I can't, who's the BOSS

      This is 3 years late, but even 3 and more years ago you could use the BOSS v controller and run a straight blade. AND you can run a straight v blade with a straight blade controller but will only be able to use it in the straight blade configuration. I know this because we have 3 BOSS plows. 2 v blades and 1 straight. I needed a backup controller one night when out but only had an extra straight controller in one truck. That was able to get me through the night when I could get the correct controller and the other fixed
