Maharaj Hari Sing wanted to signe documents but Nehru delayed, because of that Pakistan grabbed Gilgit-Baltistan-Pok. then by going against Nehru, Sardar Patel sent army & Maharaja signed documents. Later unnecessarily Nehru brought Article 370 as permanent provision, but after Ambedkar, Patel & majority Congress member's protest, Nehru made that temporary.

If Shaikh Abdullah was an undisputed leader of J&K then why no one opposed Bakshi Gulam when he won Confidence Motion, passed Constitution of J&K and claimed J&K is an Integral part of India. If he was then surely people of J&K must had revolted and came on streets or stone pelted.

Fantastic series. Many thanks to ABP and Shekhar Kapoor. This is something majority of Indians are unaware but must know. Lethargic politics made future generations pay heavy price. Kashmir could have easily been added to India just like other states merged without any special articles.
It was sardar Patel Hyderabad n junagad accession through military which led to attack in j&k ...otherwise a standstill agreement was sighted with pak ..Pakistan after seeingthe military use over Hyderabad n junagad decided to send kabalis in kashmir ...so that India doesn't attack it ...secondly defence was under lordmounbatten (max no of officiers britishers) who had even refused to help j&k till maharaja signed accession agreement. ..

Dear Sir,
I have something important to add here.
1. Maharajah Hari Singh delayed his decision to join the Indian Union because he had seen what horrible things had happened in the rest of the country because of partition and Jinnah's 'Direct Action Call of 1946' where in the Muslim League Government of Bengal under HS Suhrawardy, Suhrawardy and his goons murdered 10000 Hindus and maimed 15000 raping and abducting thousands of Hindu women in Calcutta.Some British bureaucrats also secretly helped them in this sinister plot.
2. Then followed the massacres, rapes, abduction and arson during the migration of the refugees all over, forced to flee their homes. Observing this and Kashmir being a Muslim majority State, the Maharajah purposefully delayed the decision lest the riots exploded in J&K also, till then peaceful. This was in spite of the fact that his own then Prime Minister Ramchandra Kak had secretly conspired with Jinnah and was putting a lot of pressure on the Maharajah to join the Pakistani Union.
3. Ramchandra Kak had a strong logic to support his advice. The Maharajah had written to both Nehru and Jinnah to hold status quo for a while until he could take his decision.
4. Jinnah had readily agreed and also promised the Maharajah that all his royal privileges would continue after he acceded his State to Pakistan.
5. On the other hand Nehru refused to continue the status quo and asked the Maharajah to release Shaikh Mohammed Abdullah from imprisonment, hold elections and hand over power to the popular leader and leave the decision of accession to the popularly elected leader.
6. The Maharajah had no intentions to accede to Pakistan. So he delayed the decision.
7. Jinnah then asked Ramchandra Kak to have Maharajah Hari Singh assassinated. Ramachandra Kak tried to poison the Maharajah through Mallika Pukhraj, Maharajah's favourite courtesan and singer.
8. The plot failed. The Maharajah arrested Prime Minister Ranchandra Kak, appointed Meher Chand Mahajan the Prime Minister of J&K in his place and deported Mallika Pukhraj from J & K.
9. Jinnah then invaded the State of J & K. At that stage Maharajah Hari Singh acceded his State to India.
10. Nehru held a meeting of his cabinet Committee to decide upon the Maharaja's urgent request for military aid expressing his willingness to join the Indian Union. Sadly, here he invited the Governor General Lord Mountbatten to the meeting and requested him to chair the meeting. This was a most inappropriate thing to do on behalf of Prime Minister Nehru.
11. Mountbatten threw many a spanners in the spokes of the wheel and almost succeeded in preventing India from sending military aid to Kashmir.
12. At this stage Sardar Patel intervened and practically shouted the Prime Minister into submission and ordered the army to go for the aid of the Maharajah's troops to J & K.
13. The Indian Army fought valiantly and pushed back the Pakistani tribal raiders JCO'ed & officered by the Pakistani regulars as well the regular formations of Pakistani Army combine.
14. Then under advice and influence of Mountbatten and his wife Nehru approached the UN. He also sent Shaikh Mohammed Abdullah to UN to represent J & K.
15. Here first the US, convinced of India's rightful stand, wanted to take India's side.
16. However, the British told them about Nehru's Leftist leanings and told them that in the so called 'FREE WORLD's FIGHT AGAINST COMMUNISM', Pakistan was a far more reliable partner than India.
17. In the paranoid anti-communism atmosphere of those days the US needed no further argument to get convinced.
18. Worse, two senators met Shaikh Abdullah and put an idea of independent Kashmir in his head. This business of 'Kasmiriat' started from there, otherwise Abdullah knew very well that his State wouldn't survive as a sovereign State between the two powerful neighbours.
19. After the capture of the Zojila Pass by General Thimayya Pakistanis were practically running back. Jinnah appealed to Mountbatten in panic and he along with his wife convinced Nehru to declare cease fire, which Nehru did without consulting the Constituent Assembly, or his cabinet Colleagues, or his military Commanders, or the Maharajah of Kashmir or his own friend Shaikh Mohammed Abdullah who was at that time the Prime Minister of J & K .
20. Seeing the victory snatched away from his jaws by the 'Cease Fire' order of Nehru, Shaikh Abdullah was livid with rage and even stopped talking to Nehru. Nehru then tried to placate Shaikh Abdullah by talking about some special status to J & K and then Abdullah took full advantage by demanding more and more until Article 370 happened against the opposition of most members in the Constituent assembly including Dr. Ambedkar.
