I just finished watching all 19 videos non-stop... I'm looking forward to number 20 and congratulations on taking the huge leap to chase your dreams! 😉
I grew up sailing Lake Erie. Our first Pearson 28 was docked in Huron YC right next to the yacht basin! I miss Erie so much! My parents now have an S2 in Sandusky just across from Cedar Point... going to be up there next summer! Best wishes on your adventure! I'll be watching and following along!! :)
I've made the trip from New England to Florida a number of times. You two are doing great! You'll find that this great lake segment is the hardest part of the whole voyage to FL.
I did mine as a Coast Guard registered vessel instead of Mich State registered vessal. Did away with having to fight about registering it in each state. Made for much smoother going going in every state.
DTE has Fermi in line Newport area. They also have several coal plants including one in port Huron you may have seen in the past. They were only used as backup when I was younger and some might be decommissioned all together now. Yeah my dad worked at Detroit Edison for years. Lol
If you think that Lake Erie was rough just wait until you are on the Atlantic Ocean , 3 weeks ago we sailed from Brighton, England to Montreal and we had 15'-18' waves for 4 days straight. The rest of the way seas were running 6'-8' .Our boat is a 72' Cat
In the States this is known as a documented vessel. You don't see numbers on the huge cargo ships....same thing. Even cops have tried to dispute the fact that no numbers are required. It is registered by name and port. Something you may want to check though, I was required to etch a number on the inside on the hull somewhere. I can't remember what or where I got it from but it had to do with the documented vessel registry. It may have been a hull number that wasn't large enough?? Never had anyone that wanted to check. Also, if you ever are stopped by any one else other than the Coast Guard, like local sheriff or cops, in the States that want to board your boat. They must have a warrant for a documented vessel and you can refuse. You should check with your Yacht Club, they should have a list of all the clubs they have reciprocal agreements with. I was commodore of a club in Portland, OR and we had agreements with a lot of clubs in Mexico 1000's of miles away. It can be worth a shot and save some cash and have some more marina choices ahead of time:)
Good luck with that! I recommend if you have a question do your research. I have been living on and operating a yachts for 20 years. I have had many Sheriff department and coast guard speakers at the Yacht club to discuss our rights as boaters.
What ever, that is the only time any of them have tried to board me and I just explained that this is my home and unless they have a warrant I politely refuse. Enough said. Good Luck:)
Hey Guys, Love your videos. I just started watching about 8 months ago. Is there anyway that we can start watching these in order from the first to the current?
You were literally sailing past the nanticoke power plant when you said Canada didn’t have power plants. It closed a couple years before your video but it was the largest coal fired power plant in North America. Fun fact
I’m preparing to sail out of port Dover and down the Erie Canal via buffalo so I’m re watching your videos. I have a nice Hughes 35 parked in the slip next to my Nauticat 36 so it reminds me of your boat all the time
Scott Stevens ohhh congrats! We’re doing the icw unless something changes. It’s more about the journey than the destination for us so we don’t mind taking the slow way and seeing more little towns and stuff.
This kind come off as insulting a little doesn’t it? Anyway, We’ve been racing this boat for years. We’re motoring because there are thunderstorms, nor’easters, we’re trying to get somewhere, or no wind at all.
.. I think he's talking about the RUSH display at the Rock Hall of Fame.. I haven't been yet since they were inducted.. but The Beatles and Jimmy Hendrix display is out of this world! SOOOO many cool things to see there for people who love to ROCK!
When you hit locks 34 & 35 (Lockport, NY) take a break at Lake Effect Ice Cream - you will NOT regret it!! If I weren't moving my son from MD to TX, I'd treat you in person, but please showcase my hometown for a minute or two in a future video (for my enjoyment, been almost 4 years since I was home!) New subscriber, btw!
Are you guys going to stop in Fairport NY? I can drive you to Wegmans for food supplies, Gas Station for Fuel and take you out for drinks and dinner. My Treat in my home town with the "Effed Up Bridge!" Pleas post your email. if interested. Thanks JJ

I know the waters there around Kelly's Island very well. My inlaws lived on the mainland shore for years.

Thanks so much for all the wisdom :)
Key word here is documented:) The police can detain you and call the coast guard but CANNOT BOARD WITHOUT A WARRANT OR IN SOME CASES PROBABLE CAUSE.

Lots of good racers out of Edgewater I raced on a J/24 for 15years on Lake Erie 2 or 3 times a year at Edgewater
There is a saying "Don't own a boat if you don't want to get wet or go on a roller coaster ride" LOL
I like your video's, thanks guys! So, how are you going to make it over the falls? hehe
quickly ;)
Hey Guys, Love your videos. I
just started watching about 8 months ago. Is there anyway that we can start watching these in order from the first to the current?
Sure just go to my channel- then to videos- then select “oldest” - that should show them in order starting with the first one

Why did you choose to do the loop clockwise? I thought most went counterclockwise for better winds and currents
Cool videos, nice boat! What kind of boat do you have? You referenced a hues 28 . Is this the same boat you have?
Thanks! We have a Hughes 35. Our friend back home has the Hughes 38.
We are in Rochester NY but pick up our boat in FL in Feb. Will be fun to watch your journey down the canal. Doing icw or open water?
Scott Stevens ohhh congrats! We’re doing the icw unless something changes. It’s more about the journey than the destination for us so we don’t mind taking the slow way and seeing more little towns and stuff.
Hello again!
Love what you're doing and will be following your progress. But are you new to sailing? Seem to be using the motor most of the way so far.
