I would say HK people are somehow money-oriented because of the environment they are living in. It is difficult to live in such a small place with a large population. Competition inevitably exists and it is not like Hong Kong people want it. Hope you could understand their situation and do like them cuz they are really hardworking and aspiring people! :)
And from my experiences working with HK people, they do understand what inner-wealth is, it is just the fact that not everyone has the courage and more importantly the ability to go against the mainstreams of society. With poverty or complicated family issues, this is just impossible for some people.

Hong Kong people likes to contradict things and are never happy for other people's success. Envy, jealousy and greed are their most common traits. For example, Hong Kong lacks living space and all they ever do is complain about mainlanders moving in, they never take a step back realizing most of these high rent 'inhumane shoeboxes' are created by Hong Kong locals themselves to gain profits out of their own people who are living in low income/poverty. So don't go all high and mighty saying how great Hong Kongers are when all they care about is money money and money. Even they don't look after their own people. People are hard working all over the world, it is the basic of life. But I am used to Hong Kong people making excuses to justify their behaviours.
