Take break Jess , You look like your feeling good so please don't over work yourself. You have the rest of your life to finish what you two have started to build out there
Spray that dome with spores after the horse manure. You'll have a mushroom dome, hahaha 🤣 Put some stiff legs to the ground on the lift, that will beef it up so you don't damage the runners going in the building.
Lol, love the "first person homesteader" view with the go pro on your head. The cobbing looks great! Can't wait to see what its all going to look like finished.
The sound levels seem to be getting better. Jim on the ground and Jess on the platform and can hear both clearly and the music isn't distracting and loud while you're talking.
An idea for your dogs..... When the three of you are in the house in the evening, the other dog wants to be part of the pack. Bring her in with the rest of you, but the instant she shows aggression take her back out. Repeat the process at every opportunity until she catches on. "Every time I do this behavior the good time ends" I have successfully trained a dog to stay in an un-fenced yard using this idea. My dog loved being outdoors. It takes time and patience. Find out what she likes, and use it to your advantage.
I love the Spring Time in the desert. Its just Gorgeous Out there in the Spring in Az. Nm. The mountains, hills, and plans, are cover with different colors
Wow! The artistic value Jess is putting into this build makes it extremely attractive. I love love the different textures she adds to everything. This home is going to be gorgeous. What a great team the two of you are!
💥💥💥 what a team, a Duet really, “creative composition”! I love your amazing spirit and commitment! I love your interaction, Jess always so genuine, Jim, always ready to play! Two very amazing people, creating a life and home in the desert👍🏽👍🏼👍🏽👍🏼❤️♥️🌹.
Larry Parish I read your comment to Jim and Jess, and was taken back… My that was quite a lugubrious dissertation on SHTF that you boldly shared in the comments for all to read on this video. I also am a senior citizen for more years than I care to think about, however, my years have obviously brought me a different kind of enlightenment. That said, I would never take the position to assume that I even had an inkling of what their daily life entails living off the grid in the desert. Neither would I ever be impertinent enough to tell them what to spend their money on or what they should be doing instead of what they are spending their money on and what they are doing!! Kiddos. Here is my "senior" dissertation. The Green Dream Project, that I have eagerly subscribed to, has totally enchanted me! Watching the two of you do what you do, and continue to do, while on the margin such as Mr. Parish, is so uplifting to me. I cannot help but wonder where you keep coming up with those innovative ways of solving the daily problems that arise in your life. I cannot help but wonder where you get the ceaseless drive that burns in each of you day after day - year after year! I marvel at watching you working together and witnessing your collective abilities rise to any challenge that befalls you. And after all this time, realizing that between the two of you, you know that you can truly depend on each other. YOU 2 ARE A FINE OILED MACHINE. Watching your videos brings me joy and even though I probably have 30 years on you, I am still learning wonderful things. I will not offer you suggestions on how not to make mistakes that others might have made. It never worked for me as I marched through life. What I do offer you is to keep hope and faith ever present in your lives. That God continues to bless you. And the most important thing is - Love and take care of each other. God's blessings kiddos.
Since you love the view at the top of the dome you ought to consider adding a periscope or 360° camera feed. Why aren’t your dogs outdoors together? Consider adding PVC 90° elbows pointing down on the exposed black pipe ends to keep water out of the interior. You probably should add screen material to keep insects outside too. I thought you would be lime washing your dome to reflect heat away from the dome? Wishing you both a blessed week, gentle weather and restful evenings. Peace
Good evening to my favorite Dirt Bag Couple. Congrats on getting electricity into the dome. Just keep checking off those boxes and you will be in your beautiful home before you know it. Looking forward to seeing the finished house.
Taking turns on the physical work is a good idea, less likely to hurt something through overworking. Exciting to see you guys get to this stage of the build! Keep up the good work.
You should extend the verticals all the way to the ground. That’s where the weight is. The wood extension from the structure is just so the container doesn’t fly all over the place.
I laughed out loud you are too funny when you were explaining your job of mixing the cob at the end of the video was so funny I haven't left out loud like that in a long time love it!
Amazing what you can achieve with time, effort and the will to do so. You are both ahoy and a pleasure to watch and to see how your journey unfolds. Thanks a bunch for sharing. Hopefully I get to buy a bit of land in the countryside in Ireland in the middle of nowhere and build my own dream
Check out Musgum Huts of Cameroon. These tribal huts have a similar dome shape but the shell is laced with built-in steps for climbing. Each dome has a slightly different pattern but all use the same general concept, earthen steps on the shell. They are incredibly beautiful.
Just a thought, maintenance is a periodically thing. It might be useful to keep the lift for the future. So maybe keep those two board sticking out and cut the others. 👍🌻
I'd be a bit worried that rocks that size could dislodge from the cob and become a hazard if they slid or tumbled off the dome, although they might be stopped at the tin can scales level, but the could bounce off the wooden walkway there. I'm sorry, I probably worry too much.
them looked like termites . ants dont as a rule have wings unless there queens the kings have wings to but are much smaller then the queen . nice job on the lift . them rocks will be a big job but will add so much mass radiant heat for them cold nights . good job guys .
yeah ok i googled them and dint find out much other then from images . i think them are ants . but you can tell from the waist area of the ant it will be more thin and ant like . where a termites is more straight and the wings are different as well . i just never seen so many flying ants in one place . most of the time your lucky to see a queen .
Hot dang that is going to be sweet when it is done. The rocks add so much texture, and I'm sure will help against erosion. I am surprised that you didn't start from the catchment at the bottom of the dome though and work your way up. Either direction is great because it means you started the end processes. Keep being awesome 👌 👏.
I think one of the reasons they started at the top was because there is a few places leaking and then also those cracks there just above the rain catchment eve. That's just my guess on it. I totally agree with you on how gorgeous the house will be when they're done with it.
Have you thought about leaving some of that wood up there? Or make some stepping stones big enough for footing to get up to the top in the future for repairs or upgrades Just a thought Great work guys!
Just take your time don't overdo Yourself the heat can get to you Work the early morning and late evenings You guys are doing a great job I can't wait to see the finish outlook
Will be interesting to see how the stone holds up-- like the idea. Being way at the top I would have possibly added one scoup of portland cement per 9 scoops of dirt The rocks remind me of the cap of a acorn- You could also use a pastry bag and mix up some of that ferro concrete and frost around the stones . Are you worried about horse poo getting into your water supply?
You have a beautiful Ideals when you want to get things done you make it work by making a voice the way you did bring rocks up and materials that is very good
Great video folks. I was wondering about the timber sticking out of the top of the dome and the pipes. Now it makes sense. I was honestly skeptical about that lift/material mover but it looks like its definitely going to do the trick. Way to go!
So the boards. I know you said they are coming down, but what about when you guys need to do repairs on the top of the dome or patch cob, how will you accomplish this?
Every hour and every day you work on your dome . The faster you will be complete and moved in . I know that has to feel like a humongous accomplishment to you both and the fur babies. Especially crew cause I knew he will be wanting to stay in where it's cool .
I love you two people (and Crew) Tomorrow my builder is coming to help me install a wood burning stove .If no electricity or gas I wont freeze or go hungry.
You guys are a great team, Jim I Love your morning cheerfulness and Jess your artistic skill makes everything special, You guys work so hard it's amazing👍👍Im wondering why you started at the top? Bricklayers start at the bottom to have something to build on ???
Those rocks are going to make such a difference in the climate inside the dome. I never knew how much different it could be until I bought this house in 2006. I have saved so much money in heating and cooling costs! Looking good, GDP!

The cobbing looks great! Can't wait to see what its all going to look like finished.
The go pro has been a game changer. Hopefully more durable than the Canon we had.
The sound levels seem to be getting better. Jim on the ground and Jess on the platform and can hear both clearly and the music isn't distracting and loud while you're talking.

Jess, it's your creativity that is going to turn this into something magical
Jess, be sure to take your breaks and lots of water. You really don't need heat stroke. So be kind to yourself. Live your cap work on the dome.
Dome is looking FINE. You two work together so well.
Your new doggo looks to be calmer and adjusting to her new life.
Such ingenuity is something rarely seen these days. No doubt a lot of people are seeing it for the first time in their lives. Much respect.

Wow very good lift, makes it so much easier getting the materials up top. Glad the female dog worked out she seems very happy.

Lol! So, you don't want to help on the top of the dome?😆
@@ourselfreliantlife I would come and help but not at the top. 🤣❤️👍

I think the smile on Jess face at the end of the video, says it all.😁 I like the rocks too! Looks great.
Jessica, great work, please stay safe up there!
Nice work. No better feeling than pride in one's spouse!
You should extend the verticals all the way to the ground. That’s where the weight is. The wood extension from the structure is just so the container doesn’t fly all over the place.
In other words. The weight is downwards
Yes it takes teamwork to make the dream work, keep up the good work and God bless amen.
Hey Jess make sure there is some beer for you after you're done being in that hot sun all day. All day drink water too. Stay healthy.
Looking good Jess 😉
Well done Jim, your Host works fantastic.
You’re an excellent and considerate spouse for sure.
Hi Jess ,have a good breakfast and while your up there doing cob drink plenty in that sunshine and at least have one break xxx
Thanks for sharing 👍😀
I love how unpredictable I find your building choices. Be great if you could explain more in your videos. Thx
Wow!! Superwoman up there! Awesome job, you two!!

Yall's new dog is so sweet!
Great job Jess but you do need to take more breaks in the heat. You two make a great team.❤️🇬🇧
I noticed that the lifting rig was sifting to the side when you were being lifted. Suggest that add an X bracing to keep the lifting rig square.

You might want to try a short grappling hook so you don’t have to reach over the edge. Great job 👍
Wow the top cob area and stones is goanna look good xxx
i have the same thoughts as below, but i guess we'll see how it all shakes out in the end. great job both of you.
I really enjoy watching you working so well as a team. But, I really think a harness might be something to consider..1 misstep and you could fall.
