  • Mount Marcy is New York State's Tallest High Peak located in the High Peaks region of the Adirondack Park and Adirondack Mountains.
    My wife wanted to climb Mt. Marcy for her 40th birthday. We took a family vacation in August to tackle this High Peak. We enjoyed some birthday brownies on the top while we took in the spectacular views for its summit.

    so jealous, seems like it was a beautiful day for a hike! Marcy was the first High Peak I climbed (and I have a tattoo on my left inner forearm depicting the view from that behemoth) and I loved every minute of it.

      The weather was near perfect when we hiked, a rarity in the Adirondacks. Really happy I got to experience it with my family.

    What a GREAT way to celebrate a 40th Birthday. Congratulations to your wife and your whole family. I summitted Marcy for the first time in 1968 when I was just 9 years old with my Dad (now gone over 30 years). I returned several times before taking a hiatus for almost 30 years, then returned with my own grown kids four weeks ago (August 21st) just a couple of weeks shy of my 63rd birthday, and plan to make it at least a few more times before I get too old.
    What a magnificent and beautiful place.

      Thanks for sharing your story. I bet the peaks have changed drastically over your time in the Adirondacks, both for the good and the bad. I see old pictures of camping on summits that are devoid of alpine vegetation. Now they are dealing with overuse. You must have a unique perspective. Great memories, I actually re-watch this video every once in awhile.

    Mt Marcy is an awesome hike. We stayed at a camp ground a few miles out with the Adk mountain club, and it was about a 15 mile hike altogether. A few miles in to the base and then up to the summit.

      @@OutsideChronicles Underrated also. Everyone talks about Washington and Katahdin but Marcy is just as epic a peak I think.

    Aw, man! Marcy! One of the mountains I want to bag before I croak! Should have done it well before now...but, that's life!

      Hike it by Avalanche lake to Lake Tear to 4 corners. A much more memorable journey than Van Hoevenberg trail.

      We lucked out. I really wanted it to be a nice day, but in the Adirondacks, having great views is a 50/50 thing. You really feel blessed when you get a clear day.

    is there a bench mark up there?

    • @OutsideChronicles
      @OutsideChronicles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are talking about a USGS survey mark, yes, I believe there is a disk on Marcy. There is also the "cloudsplitter" sign just under the summit. Thanks for watching!

      Depends on your pace. It can be done as a day hike, it’s about 14 miles. Both my videos on Mt Marcy are day hikes.
