    Not to burst anyone's bubble, but this camera is definitely not 44 megapixels. My guess is probably 10-12 if you are lucky. Even then, the quality looks really poor. I'm not sure why you would buy this when our phones these days are so superior. That "2k" looks like it's running at 15 frames per second. 😳

    • @pricklypearcamera
      @pricklypearcamera  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I tested both images and video to see if resolutions were as claimed and it was both 44MP resolution and 2k video output. Agreed that particularly on the video side, the quality was not great, hence the sample footage shown. The lens type this camera uses is the limiting factor performance wise for sure.

    • @chrisdwyer1477
      @chrisdwyer1477 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Prickly Pear Camera oh I have no doubt the output file is "44 megapixels" and "2k" but they are much lower resolutions that are interpolated to seem like much higher resolutions. It's a trick often used by super cheap Chinese camera companies.(the Minolta name was purchased by such a company)

      @@pricklypearcamera And actually, most of these cameras use the same "camera on a chip" components. Very tiny sensor and often around 5 megapixels true resolution.

    • @nikytamayo
      @nikytamayo ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, specs and performance look very similar to cheap Chinese cameras that sell for about half the price. Likely with a tiny 1/3" cellphone sensor, which could be a quad bayer at 48-50 cropped to 44, but really just outputting natively at 12MP and then scaling back to 44 instead of outputting raw to avoid color casts.

    Hi! Thanks for the video. I’m deciding to get this camera for travel since it’s very compact. I still have a dSLR for other things. That said, do you have a sample image taken from this camera? If it’s up to par with at least an iPhone 8 then I’m quite sold!

    • @pricklypearcamera

      Hi, Here's a couple pictures that I took with the Minolta. Indoors, the Iphone 8 is probably going to take better pics, but outdoors, it does a decent job, although color saturation is a bit muted.

    With the AMAZING untouchable quality of Smart phones, ESPECIALLY the iPhone 15 Pro, Why would anyone waste a second with a downgraded quality brick you have to carry as a second item? Unless you're still a lover of Flip Phones, these devices are obsolete.

      while it’s true modern ~$1k iPhones can produce some amazing shots (I have one and can attest to its capabilities) not every occasion or every person is going for that buttery smooth Ai enhanced photo look. to each their own but the novelty of having a very basic point and shoot is very appealing to me (maybe not this particular camera but I hope you get my point 😅).
      Many famous professional photographers and photojournalists still use these pocketable disposable cameras to stunning effects because they understand their eye is more important than their tech. Furthermore, film grain and poor optical abnormalities aren’t the same as filters aka after effects. To each their own!

    Looked like a good video only I wish there was a way to filter off the annoying music. Finally I had to tap out and not finish the video. What I liked was the shot that the Nikon took next to the shot the Minolta took. I would never buy this camera.

    I bought this camera a few days ago, and so far every picture I've taken has been out of focus. Does this camera have an autofocus? If yes, how do I turn it on?

    • @pricklypearcamera
      @pricklypearcamera  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, out of the box it should be set to auto mode, which would enable autofocus. If it's not focusing properly (with good light), sounds like it may have a problem?

    i hate fujifilm xp no longer being made. second hand market can be hairy and as example above shows, many dodgy alternatives- 44mp? but shows 12mp default- shanadingans! but timelapse mode is a great featrure- my xp60 had that and realy gutted when i lost it and replaced it with a model from usa i didn't have it- all because of a different software tweak.

      They did buy it a long time ago, but as of 2017, according to my research, Minolta was purchased by a conglomerate "ELITE BRANDS" that also produces Rokinon lenses.

      @Lets-Take-Pictures ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pricklypearcamera Interesting, does that mean it's South Korean? Although then again, maybe Elite Brands is one of the US-based importers / distributors for Samyang / Rokinon / Bower's Korean-made products, rather than being a Korean company themselves. I do love vintage Minolta cameras, it would be nice to see the name attached to some more serious photography products again.

      @@pricklypearcamera There are a slew of cheap "Elite Brands" identical point and shoot cameras and camcorders sold by Amazon, QVC and HSN. where is optical zoom???? this is another proof that for some reason tech companiaes are heavily REGRESSED and technically DOWNGRADED consumer cameras, camcorders, action cams, mobile phone cameras and similar devices standards.. look at new akaso v50x (heavy crap), new sjcam action cam (also crap), canon and panasonic are stuck with their sx740 and TZ-95 almost 6-7 years old, NO NEW MODELS at all! the best 4k camcorders are from 2015-2016, no new models since then! something is going seriously wrong.

    • @chrisdwyer1477
      @chrisdwyer1477 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason why there are no new models when it comes to those cameras is because there is very low demand for them. Canon, panasonic and other camera companies are putting all their effort (and money) into mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras.
      And those keep getting better and better.

    • @danbilotto7785
      @danbilotto7785 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisdwyer1477 yes, you're right but these mirorless and high end cameras are only for professionals and are very expensive. for average user there is practically no new models and the existing ones have a lot of flaws or obsolete features and out of stock. i love to see improved new panasonic fz-90, fz-400, canon sx750 hs, sx80 hs, nikon b800 as examples, also an upgraded panasonic hc-v 180 camcorder, with same small body, stabilization and zoom (90x i) but with 4k quality because now it is technically factible and inexpensive.

    • @pricklypearcamera
      @pricklypearcamera  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, would love to see some advancements in point and shoot and camcorders as well! I agree, things in that realm have gotten stagnant by Canon/Nikon/Sony.

    • @chrisdwyer1477
      @chrisdwyer1477 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Danbilotto there are affordable mirrorless cameras out there. I purchased a Canon m200 for under $500 US and the results are much better than a point and shoot small sensor camera. Also, there are definitely lots of user friendly mirrorless cameras you don't have to be a professional to use. I own many!
