"...and then get dropped off so many cliffs for extra height for their trouble." Followed immediately by Yoshi throwing Mario away in a bubble in search of a bit of extra height, then Yoshi jumping down a series of pits for the rest of the level. Like all good poetry I'm not smart enough to understand it, but I can recognize beauty when I see it.
16:40 18:10 tf was that sound? 30:36 Yea, how much of this is someone's minions, how much is just locals? 31:51 The level of "because fuck you" sure has ramped up a lot. 33:56 Ah, the spectre of localization reappears. 37:58 Well, now I just have Space Core lines playing in my head. 38:49 This is probably not a great boss for some people to watch. I've not flown something that rolls that fast in a flight sim. 39:40 Do not let King of All Cosmos se that score. Yipes.
30:15: Of course the bird tricks are cheep. Why did you expect anything else? 0:35: ...keep it PG, y'all. 5:40: Prototype of Mario tossing Yoshi off a cliff for extra height. 18:45: Illiterate coins :'( 25:15: Fast-acting hubris! 37:30: Is he talking to Yoshi, Mario, or Raphael?
Tbh tho, baby Mario’s cry causes the same anxiety but turns it up thanks to thousands of years of baby cries causing stress in adults so the needs of babies are met. And them being in classic chip sound style doesn’t reduce the response at all.
It still does, but the Switch version is emulated so you can use save states instead of saving and quitting the game. If you do quit the game on the Switch emulator, it will go back to 5 lives.
8:00 that is a face looking at the checkpoint ring. 39:11 in the GBA version, Yoshi automatically runs to the top peg, so that you can see this cutscene the right way up, and not risk that Raphael may turn into a constellation off-screen.
You know, watching this, I can't help but wonder if the ability to bubble in New Super Mario Bros is a reference to Mario getting stuck in bubbles in this game.
Geez the difficulty escalated fast after 5-4. I think that level was about as far as I got back in the day. I believe Dan, free the Yoshi's from the babysitting nightmare 😸
Super Mario World 2 is just the inverse of Super Mario World's plot right? In World Mario saves the Baby Yoshis, and in World 2 the Yoshis save Baby Mario.
40:21 ……please tell me I’m not alone in seeing the among us character there. I know not the intent bc predating the game but good god, human pattern recognition is a curse sometimes.
That is a small, lumpy oval inside a big, tall oval. I can see how someone could see an Amongus, but if you see an Amongus there, you're gonna see it everywhere.
"Felt like the whole world was going up, but I was just falling"
That's deep, man
That’s basically Einstein equivalence principle, in a nutshell. In free fall, you’re not accelerating, the ground is rushing towards you.
The birds flapping much harder when Yoshi’s on them is a great touch.
Dan doesn't always lose lives, but when he does, it's half a dozen in the same spot.
13:50 Dan forgets that he skipped a flower because he doubted he'd have 30 stars anyway. Proceeds to lose all stars getting last flower.
"These penguins are gonna get Mario 64'd."
...So THIS is where Mario learned it from!
This line made me laugh so hard! Definitely a moment for the 'best of' reel!

40:18 And Yoshi wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer. Then he was teleported to the Dark World and was all like “oop nevermind kekw”.
There is an impressive amount of realism in the effects of bird strikes on aircraft here. Not nearly enough fire or screaming, but still impressive.
I love these birds so much. This might be one of the few times I've actually wanted to play an old, non-3D Mario game.
30:15: Of course the bird tricks are cheep. Why did you expect anything else?

Nintendo saw the infamy of Sonic's drowning music and asked themselves, "How can we top that?".

I've never seen that many lives... I'm sure the original game used to reset your life count to 5 every time you exit the game.
It still does, but the Switch version is emulated so you can use save states instead of saving and quitting the game. If you do quit the game on the Switch emulator, it will go back to 5 lives.
2:54 jump off baby Mario for extra height, that will teach him
30:14 no, cheep-cheep are the fish, not the birds :P

I like the wonky perspective. Then again, the constellation is still on-screen.
@@timothymclean it is here on the SNES. The GBA version has to deal with screen crunch too (and manages it very well in general, might I add)
I love the world 5 boss fight so much! Definitely one of the coolest moments in the game. There's a reason I made a custom Smash stage based on it.
You know, watching this, I can't help but wonder if the ability to bubble in New Super Mario Bros is a reference to Mario getting stuck in bubbles in this game.
34:00 I think they were expecting you to go, "What?! No way..."
Precisely. An artifact of the lingo from the era the game was released. "No way!" "WAY!"
Geez the difficulty escalated fast after 5-4. I think that level was about as far as I got back in the day. I believe Dan, free the Yoshi's from the babysitting nightmare 😸
11:19 he finally did the thing!

Honestly, I think it just proves Among Us was too much of a cultural juggernaut that a cloud in front of a mountain looks like an Among Us character.
Ghost of Christmas future wanna play some Yoshi's Island. I say let'em. 🤷♂️
It's easy! 'Way!' is the opposite of 'No way!'
31:23 He's indigo-shi.
Fyi, the seagulls are called "Goonies" hence the level name-
I wonder how weird over time the boss Moltz the Very Goonie will now be now that “gooning” is inappropriate slang.
@iantaakalla8180 I knew someone was gonna bring this up, lol
