Turned out excellent sweet video. I am more of a wood guy, I'd have left it natural wood. Still looks fantastic! Great info for restoring thanks for your hard work!!

At first, I was wondering why you would paint it orange like that, but I see what you did there, and it actually looks pretty darn good. I love the contrast of the faded orange and black. Nice job. I bought an old snath at the antique store about a couple of weeks ago. It was grey from being left out for so long. I sanded it down and applied "Gunstock" oil based stain and once that dried in about an hour, I gave it one heavy coat of boiled linseed oil. Massage it into the surface of the wood until you feel the palms of your hand get hot. Then buff clean with a microfiber. The end result was what looks like an original 100 year old finish shined up by years of being handled. Like an old stair case railing. Looks absolutely beautiful. Now on to the handles next and it will be ready for a new or used blade. I can't wait to finally get out and do some mowing with it. Gonna save me tons of gas. LOL

Paint has faded a lot so I need to touch it up or maybe redo it entirely. Thx for commenting.

that isn't a sickle it's a harvest scythe traditionally used for farming a long time ago

Actually, they're still a bit popular on homesteads. Much gentler, precise and quieter than a weed eater, all while getting a light workout.

@@Reish1 Me too! I'm currently restoring a thin grass blade. Head bits are all scrubbed, the blade is next, don't know if I'll be able to use the same snath tho. Really old and dry.

@@derekfuqua1254 any tips on getting rid of blade rust? mine is a hay scythe it has a ton of rust, also try a lot of boiled linseed oil it could bring the wood back to life

@@Reish1 Best thing to eat rust is to soak it in vinegar for a day or two, it will just crumble off with ease. Also, poly seal is the best waterproofer for the wood.

Thought you were doing a great job until you sprayed it red! Would have been much better just waxing the beautiful natural wood. I have lots of these and wouldn’t dream of painting them. Plus I would not have painted the metal work either, just de rust and then a coat of linseed oil and wipe the surplus off.

Valid point. Coincidentally it's been weathering so I plan on refreshing it and may very well follow your advice. Thx.

Seriously ruined it with all that spray paint. What the hell.
