    I do not think I ever will made a lawn like this. My own garden goes more into low maintance nolawn territory.
    But it is nice to see you being both passionated and pedagogic in showing how to do things!

    Another great video Robbie, good to see someone following through a whole project rather than just 1 stage and leaving us wondering about the rest! I put autumn feed down 2 weeks ago (Miracle-Gro EverGreen Premium Plus Autumn & Spring Lawn Food) and it says to leave 6 weeks before any overseeding, do you think that's necessary? You say September is best for putting down seed so I'd like to get it done perhaps in a weeks time (3 weeks after the autumn feed) if possible.
    Also, any chance of a video on morning dew removal, including DIY solutions? I think that might be useful for people who want the option of cutting their grass earlier in the day than normal conditions allow!

    • @michaeldonohoe5738
      @michaeldonohoe5738 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Lawnsmith recommends dragging a length of hose across the lawn to knock off the morning dew and help speed up the drying-out process, but there's always going to be an element of waiting for the elements to do their bit!

    • @Premier_lawns_official
      @Premier_lawns_official  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michaeldonohoe5738 depends on the lawn and time of year, finer lawns (fescue or bent) its best to remove the dew in the winter as it creates the right conditions for disease. However, Andrew was asking about removing the dew to allow him to cut the grass sooner. In that case you will want something that removes it from the surface of the lawn, it doesn't take it away it just removes it from the top of the sward

    Great work Robbie. I've have a bit of saga here re lawn and just wondering what you reckon.
    I dug out the old mess of a lawn last April and I bought a tiller and tilled completely as I thought the soil was a bit compact so did the full tilling to 4-6 inches. I sprayed roundup before I seeded (number 1 seed mix of 45% Creeping Red Fescue, 45% Chewings Fescue, 10% Highland Browntop as lockdown meant everyone was closed at the time so I bought online from a supplier). Half the reason for the full tilling was with lockdown I had lots of time! I seeded and preseed fert in mid May. Watered etc and had good growth - but the big issues was that I got huge weed growth - which I guess I could have handled with an autumn weed killer once the lawn was established in September - but I also got loads of clumps of the wrong grass - invasive grass I guess and I know you can't easily get that out bar digging it all out. It was the grass that produces seeds on its stems and throws out runners each side - not sure what it's called but it might be familiar to you? From reading online after I guess now that the tilling brought up dormant seeds etc.
    Anyway. I decided rather than spending 200 hours digging out all the clumps - I started and I worked out from doing a bit just how long it would take and how much of a pain it was - that I'd just start again. Your decision to kill it all and start again was the tipping point by the way! I've sprayed round up at this stage - grass is dying - but my big question is how much of the dead growth do I need to get out - and is there a danger that the clumps with the seeds will grow again as cutting very low/scarifying will drop some of the seeds? Like does the dead growth impede the seed - I know the seed will generally grow once it gets to earth - but does the remaining dead grass hinder it or indeed with what you have left there will it not show up or cause a thatch problem?
    Thanks Robbie and any other advice re my story would be appreciated as I really don't think I want to go for a third time! It is thankfully only 100m2 so it is manageable and as I near the South Coast my understanding is that I can seed until well into October?

    • @Premier_lawns_official
      @Premier_lawns_official  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      U should be able to seed to that time, however if you have an early frost it may impede your plans.
      Something to remember is one years weeds seed equals 4 years weeds.
      That's nature for you.
      Should be a lot handier for you next time around. The key is to scarify down to just below the thatch layer.

    • @legendhero99
      @legendhero99 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Premier_lawns_officialYou're up early answering us Robbie! In my case I'm not as worried about the weeds as I could control them with chemicals when it comes to it - it's more the "wrong" grass, the coarse grass that seems to produce seeds that I'm worried about as I can't remove that easily. From looking online it seems to be infested with annual meadow grass.
      Thanks for all your advice and help in general by the way!

    Hi Robbie I recently joined the channel and the content is super good!! This spring/summer I’m going head to head with another dad on the best kept lawn and Chezz I’ve got some work to do with his already very well established. Over the last 5 years I’ve let it go with the dog and damp dark patches towards the rear of the garage. It’s so in even aswell so I’m starting from scratch with scarification. I’ve followed plenty of your videos for timings and techniques - my question is would I treat the moss with iron sulphate before scarifying after or not at all?? @premierlawns

    • @Premier_lawns_official
      @Premier_lawns_official  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can do it before, can do it after or you can do it before and after 🙂
      I do it after, unless I'm seeding. It's less visits and makes it cheaper for the client, plus I think it works better. But I have professional tools
      For a homeowner, with a domestic machine, it's probably going to be easier doing it before as the moss will be easier to pull out, they could always retreat afterwards.
      It's moss, spray on iron and it kills it. Doesn't matter how we get there

    Great video as always Robbie. Many thanks. After applying the glyphosate do you have to wait for the grass to die off 1-2 weeks before applying topsoil? Due to time constraints I have applied it , done a very deep scarification after 3 days and then applied varying amounts of topsoil between 0-50mm to level off. Plan to reseed this weekend . Will that be ok or will the old grass grow back eventually to mix w the new seed? Bw

    Got a good lawn but weed grass is taking over and my attempts to get rid of it are a battle I’m losing so plan to do this later this year. After killing the existing lawn with weed killer how long do you wait for it to die and then scarify? I guess you don’t want any weed killer left in the soil you you have to wait a while?

    If there's bricks and rubble under the lawn like there is under new builds, (indeed under any lawn attached to a property that was once a new build)) is it better to dig out the rubble nearest the surface to help with aerating by machine / long-handled fork in the future or just level on top? Might need a significant raising of the level and that's a lot of topsoil.
    It annoys me every spring and autumn when I aerate [with the long handled fork].
    Would rubble underneath a lawn cause damage to aerator hollow tines?
