The first comedy feature film. The quality of this 1914 film is unbelievable. Marie Dressler (1968-1934) and Chaplin (recently discovered), from the Vaudeville theater, were already two geniuses of comedy with total mastery of pantomime. The beautiful Mabel Normand (1892-1930), actress, producer, director and screenwriter, plays Chaplin's old girlfriend, completing an unusual love triangle. Dressler began his career at the age of 42, went through a difficult period, of unemployment, for defending the labor rights of artists. She only returned to work with the arrival of spoken cinema, through a screenwriter, because Hollywood needed actors with stage experience. Dressler's success was instantaneous. Already old, in the early 1930s, she drew crowds to the cinema and won an Oscar for best actress. Unfortunately, a terminal cancer killed her in 1934. She is still remembered for her talent, both for comedy and drama, and for her generosity towards her colleagues.

Hmm, they say Chaplin was the star, but wasn't it Marie? Clever Mabel avoids all the slapstick, until the last part. "It had little merit!" Said Charlie in his autobiog.
