We loved the Maryland Renaissance Festival and would love to learn more about Renn Fests around the world. Any suggestions?

I see a buddy of mine at :50. Guy with the red hair and shaved sides. He’s been going to MRF for 10+ years.

If you’re ever in the Houston Texas area in October-November the Texas Ren Fest is pretty great. 55 acres. There’s a lot of overlap with these Ren Fests around the country, but each has their own little unique features.
TRF has at least two features that are similar to others, but imho better.
    1. The jousting arena is huge and similar to Greek and Roman construction with jousting shows and a fire show after dark culminating in a fireworks show as a finale.
    2. The Sea Devil tavern has a stage in the form of a pirate ship with its own pirate band, Pride of Bedlam (as seen on TH-cam) that performs 4 times a day, the best being the last evening show with added lighting and fog and a longer pub sing show. They draw a huge crowd where the patrons don their best pirate attire, sing along with tankards held high and revel in the merriment of it all.

Heh. Me with the tambourine at the 2:37 mark and look back on it now going "NO I'M NOT LOOKING AT THE CAMERA. REALLY. I'M NOT.". :) a total failure to 'act naturally' that time around. must have been the heat.

This is the first year in almost 20 that I have not been able to go because COVID shut downs. We normally go the weekend of my birthday and this year I don't know what to do for it. Maybe I will just wear my kilt at home and drink mead.

Oh wow! Sorry that you're missing it this year, but I hope you have a wonderful birthday!

@@CountryCrushTV I may have to stop by the vineyard that makes the mead. They are local so I can dress up at my house. Hope the neighbors are too freaked out. Thank you.

Nice video, you captured a lot of the fun- I wish you had included more of the fabulous shops there, we (I’m an artisan there) have quality and unique crafts you can’t find anywhere else- we are one of the best faires out there for handcraft. There are festivals all over the US, some of the larger are in AZ, CO, TX, Mi,Mn,CA, IL- just google the state and ren faire together! MD is still the best though- unless you like bawdiness then go to TRF. MD is a family show.

So glad you enjoyed this episode! Thanks for sharing your festival suggestions! I was so impressed by the artisans. I hope to visit the festival this year. Maybe I'll see you there!

Thanks for covering this festival! It's a cross-generational family tradition for me. I would like to mention, however, that performances by patrons (non-contracted performances) are explicitly prohibited at the Festival. Just wanted to let you know in case you wanted to put a disclaimer somewhere. Also I'm a bit late, but maybe for next season.

Glad that you and your family enjoy the festival! We had such a good time. Thanks for the guidance about the performances! We'll encourage people to check out the rules/regs before attending. Have a great day!

I came on this very late, but I'm the person juggling the sticks. It's not a "performance", I juggle the sticks to keep myself amused at faire. A carryover from juggling sticks at the original Renaissance Faire in Southern California, started some 30+ years ago. I don't take money and I don't hold official performances for anyone. Just juggling for the fun of it (and my family does it too, just for kicks).

We visited friends in Maryland and went to Renn Fest yesterday. The weather was great, the food good and lots of people watching. Unfortunately, It's not the same as in past years. It's been four years since I last went and was very disappointed at how very boring the shows were. Add to the fact that some of the shows like "Shakespear's Scum" was taking shots at president trump left a sour taste. It's bad enough that Hollywood celebrities think that they can tell what people should think, I don't need to hear the same dribble by fourth rate Renn Fest "actors". Just entertain us and shut up about politics. This will probably be my last visit to the MD Renn Fest.
