  • Do you not mind tannins in your aquarium? Are you intrigued by the thought of a magical leaf that has natural healing properties for your fish? Then boy do I have a treat for you, today we are talking about Indian almond leaves (or Catappa Leaves)! 😄 Alder cones? FORGET ABOUT IT.... jk.
    Indian almond leaves leave your fish tank with a nice buffered low PH, and a beautiful orange-brown tinge from its healing tannins. Catappa leaves are an amazing addition to not only black water aquariums, but almost any aquarium, especially if you keep betta fish, snails, shrimp, and so many more!

    I enjoy using Indian almond leaves for a lot of my tanks. My tap water has so much kh that the Indian almond leaves do not soften my water at all, however, I do have some tanks that I use remineralized RO water and it does work for them really well. I boil mine, but reserve the tannin water and use it particularly on my betta tank. I actually love keeping his tank as a black water setup and the plants benefit from the humic acid as well.
    Have you tried Jack fruit leaves? I hear they are even better than Indian almond leaves. I think I'm going to mix them with my Indian almond leaves. I just stumbled onto your channel and thought I'd leave a comment and subscribe. I love to see what everyone of us fish enthusiasts are doing.

    I use them in ALL of my aquariums (all 7). Every fish and invertebrate I have enjoys them. In smaller tanks, they change the water color, but the bettas like that. I have cory cats, bettas, gouramis, neon tetras, cherry shrimp, assassin snails, mystery snails, endlers, and tons of bristlenose plecos (separate communities) - and all of them gravitate to these leaves.

    I love Catappa leaves because they made my Betta so relaxed by simulating a natural habitat, it regrew some fins damaged by rot and its colour has increased from what I thought was a pale pink female betta from when I purchased it in a store to a vivid purple and red betta!! I just grabbed a few today and washed them and put the leafs in a few minutes ago. first time trying it but first reason was because I was using Blackwater concentrates to get the rio negro effect but maybe the filter is too powerfull and it always clears back up in a few minutes. Second reason I just added cherry shrimp to the community tank and I figured it would help.

    Hi I have a 20 gallon tank with two almonds leaves. 1 big and the other medium. I have hard water here but I still worry about getting nerite snails. Since almond leaves drop the ph will it be to safe for nerite snails. I have betta and a few guppies thus why i been ttying to lower the ph.

  • @Fathernsonadventures
    @Fathernsonadventures 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am thinking about using them. But idk if I can because of the fish I have.
    My 1.5 has 15ish neocaradena shrimp, and a black mollie fry. Ph of 6.6 the baby was born in that same ph so he should be okay if it gets a bit lower. I know fish prefer the ph they were born in. So a farm raised fish may not be used to the ph of there natural habitat.
    In my 10g aquarium I have a betta with 3 dwarf crawfish. Also a ph of 6.6. I believe I can use the leaves in there.
    In my 20g tank I have 2 black mollies (the parents to the baby in the 1.5g) 4 emeber tetras, 5 zebra danio, 6 neon tetras, about 15 neocaradena shrimp and 7 rams horn snails.
    I give egg shells to the snails to strengthen there shells. So far they are fine with out the egg shell though. Even though the ph is 6.6.
    Also what other products will work for black water but dont lower ph

    @JohnWick-jz5vo ปีที่แล้ว

    I probably wouldn't try these, as I my last Betta lived close to 5 years without. the other thing is, when you do your water changes, do you have a bucket with these leaves in for a couple of days, or do you just use the good old hard tap water? which might shock the fish going from hard to soft and soft to hard water again. Like your video's by the way 🙂

    I like using these leaves, they give a matured and natural tone to the aquarium and the fish love it

      Totally, Arthur 😸 When I first got into the hobby, I thought black water tanks looked too intense. They've really grown on me now. The orange tinge is beautiful, and I especially love knowing that my fish like it 😊
