That headboard is absolutely gorgeous! You have inspired me to try and make one for my kingsize bed. I’ll have to measure to see how many foam squares I’ll need. Thank you so very much for sharing your talents with us!

Mark the button placement on the back. Stick an upholstery needle from back to front, thread on a button, stick the needle back thru the same hole and into a small cheap button (anchor). Tie the thread tight to the button and clip. Saves lots of time with no chance of front buttons popping off of the hot glue. Foam board was a great idea! Great vid. Succinct verbiage is awesome!

Wow! I love this headboard. I have seen this type headboard as a DIY in the past but heavy lumber and major hanging hardware was always used, also sewing the buttons to quilt the fabric. The whole project always seemed so overwhelming until now. The foam board and straight pins idea is genius and the end result is wonderful! Thanks for sharing!

Kelly, Your headboard is very cool!! I wish I had a guest room or a little girl to make this head board but, I live in a one bedroom apartment and it is just me. For years and years I didn't have a head board but, I love anything that is made out of wood. When I was a little girl in the early 60s my grandfather who owned a construction company - out of scrap wood made my mom a bedside to attach to my bed so I couldn't fall out. It was forked at the bottom to adhere to the lip of the box frame and the other side of the bed was against the wall. About a year ago in my mom's basement I saw the side rail protector and told her I had an idea for it. I took it home and cleaned it up, pulled my bed out from the wall and the forked part of the bottom of the bed rail fit perfect over the frame lip, thus I now have my headboard. It is very plain Jane but, at Michaels the other day looking for some flowers for a new spring wreath for my front door I saw some nice wandering vine type of ivy and thought that might look cool to weave in and out of the slats on the headboard - but, sticking to a budget - I put that idea on the back burner to maybe get some other ideas from you tube how to dress it up. I was in the Dollar Tree this afternoon and saw all the large white pieces of foam board and thought of a video where the other day a woman made a faux door out of the foam board. I love the Dollar Tree near my house but, it doesn't carry the nice wall decals of Bible verses and nice sayings that other Dollar Tree's have on the you tube videos but, I found for $1 a box of w large spools of jute string today in 3 different colors so I did buy that. Anyway - your headboard is super cool and I trying to think of other ways I can use your idea. Maybe adding ribbon in a criss-cross pattern and gluing the buttons in the middle of the ribbon and hanging it on the wall to slide photos or other cards/ideas in between the ribbons and hang it on the wall over my sewing table. Thanks for an awesome idea for the future. If I ever have a guest room I for sure will make your head board. - Rebekah from Alexandria, VA

This turned out super nice 👍👌❤️ and yes this is definitely a very easy to create a headboard. I too have used this method to create a headboard or two or three or four. LOL! I change my decor a lot. However I typically get my material from the Goodwill and I use mattress foam. It gives a little bit more of the tufted look.

This is your best yet. First functional then aesthetic and and best cost saving. I love the simplicity of it. I would use faux leather fabric material if making it for couples or for my grown up kids. I sew and craft as an acumen. Just needs ideas for a helping hand. This one is hands down is a charmer.

I bought a 4'x8' sheest of foam core board at Home Depot and used that to do basically the same thing you did. I just wanted a little thicker base for mine but I did several layers of batting also I hung mine on the wall. I made my tufting a little deeper & used a gorgeous shower curtain fabric. Like you I glued everything in place except the buttons. For those I used a carpet sewing needle and heavy thread to sew the buttons i place. I found I needed to add a sliver from a popsicle stick under each button just to keep the buttons secure and glued the thread onto those. Headboards are so much fun to make and cheap.. and they add so much to any bedroom!
