The team behind this needs to work with Nintendo to make a new FZERO game. It is so much fun!

CookitVEG Not gonna happen. If it wasn't profitable on the gamecube being handed off to another developer how could any money be thought of being made with Nintendo making it and in HD with online. F-Zero ended in 2004 and won't be coming back.

Actually Nintendo tried to bring F-Zero back. It was supposed to be a Wii U launch title developed by Criterion Games. Unfortunately they didn't have the time to make it happen.
Also F-Zero from Shin'en is not going to happen. They spoke about it a couple of times and they prefer to do their own things. Also the core dev-team is basically just 3 people.

I like how everyone forgets to mention that the first entry in the Fast-Series was on the Wii. And it was great right from the beginning.

That mechanic was in the original on Wii as well.
I played the original fast racing, and it just felt... meh.
I don't know what it was, but it just doesn't feel as impressive or even as fine-tuned as Neo & RMX
nah, it has aged horribly, mostly due to one mechanic: you use an orb just to change color.
Hero mode really felt like F zero, with the boost being your shield as well

For what this game offers, $20 seems like a decent price and the file size is under 1GB. It looks great, too.
It's at a point that Nintendo should allow shin'en multimedia to use the F-Zero ip to their games just to make people happy.
Mario1080p Nintendo should just buy up Shin'en and Playtonic and have them do their thing.

See, this is really weird from my perspective, because that "I love it despite my grievances" is EXACTLY what I expected in the Breath of the Wild review!!
I don't know if its a disconnect in review approach between you and Andre, but it was clear that he loved what the game was doing, even if it didn't do everything right. That's exactly the same tone I got here, despite the different review scores.
The Breath of the Wild was "I loved it, but docked the score due to some issues", whereas this is "I loved it, and so didn't dock the score despite the issues."
I don't see a score anywhere...
This ties back to a point I made in the comments of that video - I understand your reasoning for moving away from the stars, but the limitations of your ranking system cause many games of differing quality to be grouped together.
It'll be interesting to see if Breath of the Wild ranks higher in the 2017 GOTY discussion than games that end up getting a "Loved" rating. Breath of the Wild is now in the same tier of games as Super Mario Run, Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, and Mario and Luigi Paper Jam, all games that you all liked, but none of which were groundbreaking.
In fact, I think Paper Jam is one of the most apt points of comparison. Just compare the closing statements:
Derrick (Paper Jam): "So while Paper Jam could be seen as just another entry in the Mario & Luigi series, I still liked it a lot. It may be just another entry, but these games are fun, and I always look forward to playing another."
Andre (BotW): "So, overall, I liked Breath of the Wild a lot. It's a liberating experience by Zelda standards, and one that guarantees everyone's voyage will be unique and truly their own. It's an adventure that is frequently brilliant and puts exploration & freedom back at the forefront, giving you true agency over your own adventure. While it may not be perfect, such as with the lacking story, uneven voicework, and everything about that stupid inventory, it otherwise provides a truly fun and unique experience while setting up an awesome foundation for Nintendo to build and improve on.
You see that? The games have the same review score, and yet one is a groundbreaking new classic with some issues, while the other has barely been mentioned since. To put it in perspective, would you have given Super Mario 64 a "Liked-a-lot" due to its bad camera angles? I doubt it.
You guys always ask for bold new ideas, and yet these games (including Fast RMX) all play it safe, and yet they get equivalent / higher scores. It's a bit of a letdown to see that, despite being one of my favorite gaming journalist groups, you guys still don't actually reward change.
+Kc Clark You're thinking too hard about this. I'm pretty sure Derrick and Ash would agree I just happen to be harder/more critical on games in general, which is why we use a subjective scale. That score only tells you what we personally thought; it has no relevancy in acting as a metric for comparing games between reviewers. You mentioned Yoshi's Woolly World instance--had I reviewed it, it would have probably only gotten a Like. The score does not reflect GX, only the specific reviewer. ~Andre

GX, this is the problem with metrics and ranking systems nowadays: people care too much and they don't even know how to interpret them. And then they blame journalists.
The fact that we're getting two amazing racers within the first two months of the Switch's launch really makes me hopeful for the system. Can't wait to pick both up when it launches!

This is an absolute blast. Totally deserves a Switch Smash trophy.
Fast RMX *feels* closer to F-Zero in terms of control & course layout, but it *looks* more like Wipeout in terms of art style.

And I don't say this to hurt anyone, but in my eyes, the people hoping for a new F-Zero on the Switch are holding onto non-existent hope. And that's coming from a fan myself, having played the Gamecube game back in the mid 2000s.

Sure, VgChartz is not the most reliable source for exact numbers in terms of sales but still. My point is that, even if the conditions with Xenoblade Chronicles were... bad (the original had a limited physical relase in NA and the "sequel" was relased in the least succesful Nintendo console) it managed to had somewhat good sales for a nieche game.
It's a shame no one plays online anymore I remember when the switch first released this was one if the few launch games and it was very good :(

I see everyone wanting F-Zero everytime someone talks about the Fast Racing games, and people responding "Yeah but F-Zero is dead, nobody cares about it anymore except you", and although it is technically correct, I still think that "F-Zero" in people's minds gets more hype than "Fast Racing", so I don't see why they shouldn't do it. Even if the franchise isn't as popular nowadays, Fast RMX is a great game, and a new Shin'en racing game with the F-Zero license would make a great reintroduction to the series for today's player base, it can only have a positive impact, even if it's a small one.
Will this potentially encourage developers in making a new f-zero? Would love to see it, either way, I think I'll purchase this really soon.
I think I only have 2 major problems with Fast RMX. One is that the music in the game is not as good as F-Zero's soundtrack, and second one thing that most racing games are missing is having a driver with a distinct personality in every vehicle. In F-Zero GX with every machine you unlocked you can read up on the backstory of the driver, and when you get first overall you get interviewed and can get some funny answers out of the interview question.
It's incredible how such a small team managed to pull off such a graphicaly impressive game. German technical skills at their finest.
Lugmillord I love how we get this and MK8 Deluxe within two months of each other. Nintendo is starting off strong with two great ports of their Wii U racers.

I have a feeling a new F zero game is going to come out on switch eventually cause I remember hearing from some where that Reggie said how the Wii U wouldn't be good for it but a different console would be...

They "could" but Nintendo "could" make sequels to a dozen other IP's fans have been begging for.
Idk how the business works at Nintendo but it's quite possible that F Zero and those other IPs might be their Trump card for the Switch. Like so far from what I've seen that a lot of old fans of Nintendo has come back, so knowing that If Nintendo is smart they'll bring those IPs back

My main gripes with the Wii U version was that the cars were too 'floaty' and the tracks too narrow. That said, an unlockable or DLC Blue Falcon would be a fantastic addition to the game!

For people who are asking for a sequel to F-Zero, Shigeru Miyamoto has been quoted as saying "I thought people had grown weary of it. Why F-Zero? What do you want that we haven’t done before?" and "If we create a new type of controller interface, and we find a controller interface that's particularly suited for F-Zero, then maybe we'll do something with it in the future"."
Apparently Miyamoto thinks people are tired of the series and that a sequel would need an entirely convoluted controller just to warrant the effort of developing an F-Zero sequel.
Sjono Those are indeed his exact words. Nintendo doesn't just make sequels. if they can't innovate it, they leave it alone.

For as close as we're gonna get to F-Zero at this point, I really do enjoy the game too.
Just in response to all the "F-Zero never sold so they shouldn't bother"comments though, look at Fire Emblem. That's an even more niche gameplay style and that has become arguably their number 3 or at least a top 5 for Nintendo. The quality for the F-Zero games were there, it's all about marketing and accessibility. It's sadly a problem Nintendo has had with lots of other games. "Well, why should we spend money advertising and promotion if it won't sell well?" Well, it won't sell if you DON'T promote it a ton. Gotta spend money to make money in a business like this.
Great racing game! But it has one massive flaw: On many tracks you can simply get away with accelerating and boosting and virtually not steering the vehicle AT ALL! You can win races by doing very little which is pretty disappointing. A fix to this would be slowing the vehicle down way more when hitting walls, and adding damage. Hero mode has ships taking damage, but it really needs to at least be an option in championship mode. GIVE ME THE OPTION GUYS!!!

Something is definitely wrong with the compression in this video, the whole thing has kind of a fuzzy look to it as if the original wasn't encoded at high enough quality before being sent to TH-cam.
Digital Foundry posted a performance analysis of this today, and their video looks fine. Just a heads up in case someone else thinks this doesn't look too great.
I agree with the review but you missed a few details. The difficulty definitely shows up in later cups on Novice where it becomes very hard to finish first on any of the last few cups on the easiest difficulty. The bad part is how it feels like the AI racers will magically pass you at the same parts of each lap, even if you are playing near perfectly. The good part is that they don't have the same AI racers finish the same each race like in Mario Kart so you can sometimes finish a cup at Rank 1 without even finishing first in a single race. On a recent cup I placed 2nd on each of the three tracks and finished Rank 1. However, the top AI racers generally finish 1st-4th so if you bomb on a track, you probably won't finish Rank 1 or even Top 3. It is a solid racer that does feel generic at times. It is certainly worth $20 but works best for shorter play sessions due to the repetitive nature of the game.
Can't tear myself away from BotW to really spend too much time on this game, but the little that I've played it was very enjoyable. It's deeper than I expected and very satisfying when you start to wrap your head around it and your reflexes kick in. Plus that title screen song is catchy as hell.
My main issue with the game is computer rubber band. Even on novice you can get passed while not messing up AND boosting. They have the computer and ridiculous handicap. The computer in second place can be behind you, wreck, and pass you while they're still blinking and while you're mid boost. Sometimes it's almost like they teleport in front of you. Also, the stats on the vehicles don't seem to matter much. The rubber band effect happens even with the ship that has the highest speed rating and while boosting with the ship that has the highest boost rating.
I had debated about getting either this game or the new Shovel Knight game at launch, but the visuals on this game alone were enough to get me to buy this. No I'm not one of those that thinks visuals and graphics are all that matters, but let's face it, it's fucking gorgeous. Not to mention the soundtrack, controls, and frankly, the option to play either at home or on the go, is what also convinced me to get this. Yeah the game can be challenging at times, but that's a good thing. I like a good challenge. Nothing over the top, but at the same time, something that doesn't hold your hand the entire time either. This is my first game from this franchise, and now I'm curious to see what the others are like.
But the story mode in F-Zero GX was the best part of the game;;

Simon Huus Kristensen Fast racing neo is great on the wii U.But fast rmx is still worth buying later on as it has 12 new tracks that the Wii U version doesn't have.
it still feels kinda weird to me that almost nobody mentions ikaruga when talking about the color changing mechanic.
I don't know why I didnt notice the colour change!! I was so confused about the "change forms" button because I couldn't see a difference. A brief tutorial would have been nice

This is F-Zero, a *_good_* spiritual successor to F-Zero. Truthfully more people need to get this game. Its amazing value sitting at 20€.

Been looking for a racing game similar to wipeout, f-zero, jet moto, episode 1 pod racer. This game looks fun as hell!
Looks interesting but I prefer racing games that have powerups or weapons, Extreme G is my go to futuristic racer.
I like this game a lot. The only thing I regret is the lack of "cockpit" mode or 1st person view, like the Wipeout provides.
Hah! Casuals. I beat the game on the Wii U and unlocked all the modes the hardcore way; by beating the sonic and subsonic races.
I love Fast RMX, but I still really want F-Zero. There's just so much more to that game. I especially like all of the content that Sega brought to GX including the character profiles, videos, story mode, and garage.
I want this game, but I want a new F-Zero more. Especially if said F-Zero game has a metal soundtrack.

It sounds so strange to hear Ash in a scripted video. He sounds completely different.
Now, I haven't played this game, but just going off the footage, I feel compelled to ask something. How do people feel about the camera angle in this game? Just looking at the gameplay here, I can't help but feel the camera angle would be too low to see the track ahead well enough (provided you're new to the tracks in question). So... is it? Or do you think it's fine? The game looks absolutely gorgeous and all, and I'm sure it's a lot of fun (at least for the right people), but I feel like I'd get a headache trying to play it.
Basically, this game is the illegitime child of F-Zero and Ikaruga.

This could be the game to get me back into non-cart racing games, but the fact that it is digital only kills it for me. Neo got a physical release, there's no reason for this one not to get one.
The GameCube fzero GX graphics still hold up imo but the gameplay is still superior
The GameXplain Score just shows what the reviewer felt about the game. It's not as closed-minded as a score which I like, but people kind of see it that way, which is a shame.
Love this game. I didn't very deep yet as I spent too much time on Zelda at the moment. I love this arcade type racing. Quick and fun. Some of the obstacles are little unfair, but it's still a great game.

Well, i got introduced to F-Zero back in th 90's with the SNES, and one if not the main reason Star Fox Zero didn't do that well was because of(Rehashed SF64 Story, Forced Motion Controls, Lack of online or local multiplayer content.) basically the entire game was done from the ground up wrong. As for F-Zero if Nintendo would come up with equally unnecessary stuff like they did for Star Fox Zero then yes it will fail, but that doesn't mean it can't be done right.
Great Review, Agree with it and think there is a lot of wipeout in here. One query, is the spinning of your vehicle because you have been hit, or can you use it as an attack?

I hate when people complain that games are too hard. I want hard games! Adjustable difficulty is great, but I like to have at least some content that is punishingly difficult.

If we could get an F-zero game this would be a perfect opportunity. Think about it we already have a Mario Kart game on the switch so why not an F-Zero game to change it up a little.
