Colombia is probably one of the easiest countries in the world to stay 6 months out of every year, however the form you need to complete to get these additional 3 months is not so easy.
In this video I'll be giving you a step buy step guide of how to fill out the form and common mistakes most people make when filling it out.
📨 The link to the 90 Day Extension form is here: apps.migracion...
I recommend you apply with at least 60 days remaining on your original 90 day tourist stamp, to account for busy periods when the government could take 5 or 6 weeks to process your application (yes, this happens trust me!)

If there is a break in between the 180 days what do you do? Ex: Go for a month then leave for the states come back to Colombia stay a month leave for 2 weeks then come back to Colombia for 4 months. Do I apply for the visa from the beginning or when I stay for the 4+ months? Thanks for the video!

    • @AKJoel
      @AKJoel  ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry I don't completely understand your question but I'll try my best to answer.
You can't spend more than 180 days in the country between January 1st and December 31st.
Once you arrive and get your initial 90 days, you should apply for the extra 90 day extension at least 30 days before your first 90 days expires.

Even the untranslated one has user hostile bugs - like how it only knows a single city in a state and forces you to choose that city as your place of birth even though that is not correct (and the city is not even something listed on my passport)
And it also has two items for saying USA... one mispelled in Spanish and another correctly spelled in Spanish.
Fun fact... a LOT of Spanish websites have lists of countries and thought it may have English names, they are sorted by their Spanish equivalent, so USA will often be sorted to show among the countries that start with E (like Ecuador) because USA is Estados Unidos in Spanish.

The video mentions that if one extends their 90 day visa for an additional 90 days...that is the maximum stay for one year. But what if one only comes for the maximum of 90 days...or less....leaves Colombia...then returns for an additional 90 days....does that mean one could not return to Colombia again within that given year, once they leave at the end of that separate trip?

I have been in and out of Colombia at least 10 times in the last 5 years. The first time I stayed 180 days without getting permission and when I left the officer just kinda looked at me as if I was an idiot and let me go through. Last time I had a student visa and overstayed it by 7 months and everyone told me all kinds of horror stories like I would be banned for a year from returning or a large fine. The officer gave me done kind of ticket and I went through and returned months later without problem. They don't really care as long as you're not a douchebag

This video shows an important example of preventing bad programming from affecting your success on internet applications.
    1. Do the most likely thing the internet-based form expects.
In this case, do the form in Spanish.
    2. In other cases, do not let Google or Chrome autotranslation show you a form in some other language.
Computer programs are almost always very literal (though AI may affect that). So when you don't do something exactly like it was programmed for/expected, things may go wrong. Like the example, Joel shows here with trying to put in location info when running in English mode. Because of rule #1 and the prevalence of bad programming these days, Immigration has not bothered to automate testing and they aren't manually testing their English mode forms thoroughly. I wish I hadn't been so impatient when I encountered this same problem almost a year ago because then I would have done the extension myself and never learned about the incredibly bad company expat group who charged me about $100 to do this simple task Joel shows you for free, which gave me confidence expat group would later do a student visa application properly (they did not).

I am curious about your extension @ak_joel. It seems from your video that they did an extension based on the original date of entry, not the calendar year. The immigration law mentions nothing of this while it does give evidence that dates are based on the calendar year. I have had multiple immigration firms and immigration officials themselves tell me my date permissions were based on the calendar year.
