As a hairstylist, this is upsetting to hear. It is awful that your day was ruined by the unprofessionalism. I must say, I would've fired her after the bridal shower feedback. All the non-communication would've had me too upset and I would've just found someone local and/or done my own hair. I cringed everytime you had to reach out to her again. I can't believe she changed her travel arrangements! Wow... just wow!

Either she's telling the truth and would be distracted in the way Isi tried to give her leniency for. Which, for such a big only-planning-to-do-this-once occasion...I'm sorry, but no. I will keep you in mind for something with lower stakes or when you aren't going through it.
Or she was lying because she knows loss makes people stop asking questions and be more lenient.
Regardless of either, as the client, I don't need an excuse/reason. I just need to know how you're planning to handle our business.

For such an important event in your life, you should NEVER book with somebody that you haven’t worked with before bc of incidents like these. It’s also best to always have a backup plan. As soon as the girl stopped responding the first time, I would’ve started looking for somebody new just in case.

The anxiety building up in me watching this whole ghetto operation unfold ….it’s too much 😩 I am a licensed hair stylist and I just want to apologize on behalf of the other 15.2% of stylists that remain professional and genuinely care about the health and happiness of our clients concerning their hair. This is so embarrassing and it wasn’t even me. Being your own boss has taken a crazy turn. Girl you live in a hair capital now. You didn’t have to fly anybody out!!! On top of that, you could’ve found a dope stylist that morning when you saw that text and had her a** looking stupid when she walked in. Just a lesson that people need to have contracts for all things wedding related. Vendors take advantage of anything labeled “wedding” to raise prices, so raise your standards and only pay when satisfied!! Black or not ✊🏽

To be honest, I feel like this is an example of being too nice to the detriment of yourself. You should've sacked her so many times before your wedding day Isi. You gave her so many chances until she ruined your wedding. It's ok to not be nice all the time if someone is not respecting you. You should've never had her at your wedding. I'm sorry you went through that, you're a beautiful soul, hopefully you stop being so nice to people who don't deserve your kindness.

The moment she stated directly to Isi,"Oh.. you must not wear wigs because your hair is healthy.." red flag to the 10th power.

I’m sorry you had a bad experience. As a cosmetology student I will have to agree. This is the exact opposite behavior I want to pride myself on. The customer service out here is trash in the black hair industry 😩

@@celinasjourney yep as a black woman that has been my experience. Talent is not lacking but timeliness and professionalism is. These new stylist require deposits but aren’t on time or even know how to wash a head. Nor do they care about the integrity of the hair underneath.

As a black hairstylist this was so unprofessional . I genuinely feel for you. I don’t know how you kept your calm throughout all of this. People like her make it so hard for us stylists who actually CARE and provide good service to our clients. It makes it so much harder for clients to trust a new stylist because of this behavior & their experiences. People who are just in it for a quick buck and have no care or consideration for people need to just leave this profession alone

The so-called hairstylist was TOO unprofessional: constantly replying days later, wasting your money, and had the NERVE to expect to be paid after wasting your time & money 😤. ( & it seems she prioritized the alleged BET Awards business she had going on over you & your wedding. Probably bit off more than she could chew, thus ended up doing a janky, rush job on your hairstyle(s). (Worse than me as a former procrastinating student doing assignments). ) Big S/o to your wedding planner because I would've handed the "hairstylist" her ass, too. She was wrong on so many levels.

I actually cried at the end when you were talking about God, your dad, and Josh getting you through this. It’s beautiful. Through everything you relied on your support system to get you through. I felt the emotion. That lady is so trifling. I’ve had experiences like this. That’s why I do my hair myself.
Your wedding planner is the GOAT. She helped you handle this situation in the best way possible. I was literally crying 😢 when you said that you didn't take your eyes off Josh because you are each others home. The gravity of that statement is what I desire in a partner. The pure simplicity of those words takes my breath away. God bless you and Josh union forever.

The amount of times I said “Oh hell nah” throughout this video. I am so sorry you had this experience Isi. You didn’t deserve that & the unprofessionalism is mind blowing! I completely understand about the lost of the family member if said was even true however there’s no way I’m not communicating with a client like that in general but especially when deposits & expenses were paid, AND it’s something as significant as a wedding. That was so not cool. Unfortunately there’s way too many stories with bad hairstylist & “professionals” in the beauty industry in general.

It’s funny when it benefited the hairstylist she knew how to communicate she knew how to send you messages. She fortunate you paid her anything more importantly because she put glue in your hair when you stressed not to use it. She’s a stylist who told you how healthy your hair is knows glue can be damaging. Sorry you went thru that and love your planner she’s a beast
If we gone be honest, the experience was traumatic. Meaning, it’s gonna work you up every time you think of it for a very hot minute. I’m so sorry this happened.

I don’t play about red flags 🚩 My wedding was September 24th and I had a hairstylist who was the exact same in responding way too slow for me and short responses. The week of the wedding I went in a shop nearby and found somebody else and she was amazing!!! We always have to pay attention to the red flags! Ps. You all looked beautiful! ❤ Thanks for sharing this story time because it’s a message to not work with people who show you how they act the first time!

After telling me how pretty my hair is, I complimented a wig she had on a mannequin head and she proceeds to suggest that I probably don’t even wear wigs and weave because my hair is so nice😅. These stylists really letting us know what they about and we just ain’t paying attention😂😂

That's why I'm pro-local when it comes to any kind of commitments. People are flaky as hell and having to put trust in someone out of state with something so important would never sit right with me. Another youtuber, Onlyonejess had a similar experience with someone who made her wedding dress.

Yeah it did go towards the final price. Because it was $1,200 and she made $200 deposit, that’s why the stylist was asking for $1,000. So Isi paid $650 for the wedding hair + the flight in the end

I'm so sorry for your experience, and I'm glad you are speaking out. I've experienced this from the sidelines as a bridesmaid more times than one, unfortunately. I think there are a few lessons for future brides to be to take away from this story.
1. No response is a response, especially after financial transactions have been made. Run.
2. Contracts with if/ then clauses are essential. Not meeting agreed upon timelines is a red flag.
3. Always, always have a backup for hair and makeup. They are so essential to the daý and time is money and stress, especially on a wedding day. It's incredible the things that go left as the days get close and stress is high.
Lastly, I can tell you were really hurt and disappointed, but I hope it gets erased by the beautiful memories you have had and all the new ones you will make with your husband. I wish you both many great blessings for the future! Thx for the video.

Oh wow halfway through the video and honestly Isi you brought it on yourself. The woman was unprofessional from the beginning and you continued to work with her while having more than enough money to get someone else, closer, asap. There's no need to deal with those problems when you can literally pay (probably the same amount or less) not to have them. I wouldn't have used her for even $300.

I've been beauty gang since 8th grade I'm now a junior in college. You taught me how to do my hair freshman year. Showed me what Black love could look like. Motivated me to chase my dreams and secure the bag. Ive been though this whole life journey and rocked with you through every phase like you were my real big sus. I have so much love and respect for you Isi and even though ive never met you you've really been getting me through. This has taught me to draw up a contract with all of these people. If they don’t meet certain timelines then I am allowed to rescind the contract.

Seriously! She should almost be liable for the photography charge for the missed photos! Photographers are not cheap! I would have charged her per hour for her lateness.

I’m only 15 mins in Isi and I was not expecting this. So sorry this happened to you but that hair stylist was literally a red flag PRIOR to your wedding date! After the first time she didn’t respond back, my gut would’ve told me she wasn’t reliable at all because who wouldn’t be on top of their appointments ESPECIALLY an appointment where someone is booking you a flight/hotel.
Sue her behind. I see these cases on the court shows all the time. But even if you don’t, she’ll get hers.
So disrespectful. I can NOT be as calm and rational as you were. I would be livid and she would have been replaced immediately after the bridal shower ordeal. But you handled that and I’m glad you got it out and had good people around to help.

It honestly amazes me just how many of these stories are out there being shared, so I can only imagine the amount of experiences are out there that aren't being shared. It's clearly an industry in much need of reform in terms of professionalism and respecting the experience of the client.
The second-hand disappointment and sadness I felt watching this… I’m sorry you went through this. I think you were extremely patient with her. Sometimes you gotta call and go “full Karen mode” on the phone when people act unprofessional . I’m glad eventually your wedding planner helped her understand just how bad she messed up. I hope she payed for that flight she didn’t take too cuz that’s crazy. I’m glad you did look amazing on the day of tho and it sounds like everything else went well on your wedding day. I probably would have cried angry tears down the aisle had I had I had been in your shoes and snapped at the stylist tbh. As Entrepreneur myself you learn quickly the power of bad review it can ruin a business. I just hope she learns and does better.

I recently had a similar experience with a lash tech, the lack of unprofessionalism and “get the bag” type attitude is too much for me. People gotta separate skill from customer service. WE deserve both, at the same TIME. I hate this happened to you, but im glad you shared your experience. Ugh the audacity

Yeah, the bridal shower experience should have encouraged you to find a new hairstylist for the wedding .
Also out of curiosity, why was her flight scheduled for the day of the wedding ? With flight unpredictability and delays, it seems like it would have been better to fly her in the day before. Could have alleviated a lot of stress . But also I understand the cost of having to pay for a hotel and things .. .

As a photographer, I appreciate how intentional you were with wearing your natural hair on your honeymoon and bridal events leading up to that! I'm a black couple and family photographer and I'm constantly looking for inspo, especially when planning out photoshoots.
The fact that it got worst each day is terrible smh. So sorry ISI! I’m thinking maybe you & Josh can take those Chicago pictures on your one year anniversary. Still not as perfect as the wedding day, but would be a nice memory to celebrate tying the knot in Chicago! ❤️

I'm so sorry you experienced this!! these stylists who are like that, GOT to do better. they don't understand how their habits, laziness, unpreparedness, and unprofessionalism affect others. SUCH a shame this happened, she will get her karma. The way you handled this Isi was so graceful and classy, and firm. You let her know wassup in a way that was still loving and understanding and for that, you will be Blessed tremendously. The enemy tries to kill anything the Lord meant to happen and I'm glad that you still had a beautiful wedding and that you and josh came together as one.
