Because you are in a warmer climate , the magi x would work well, I’m in Australia, similar thing, they say the gum x compound works better on the front in colder climates

I actually love my DHF, but after seeing the trails you ride I can see why you wouldn't like it. I'm in the Northeast, we have a lot of rocks and roots and chunky terrain and there's normally some level of moisture on the ground. But we had a very dry July, and my go to trail kind of turned into a dust bowl, and for the first time I felt that the DHF was sketchy. It was like you said, the front end seems like it wanted to slide and wash out in loose over hard condition. Hopefully we get some rain soon to get some moisture back in the trails so they ride better. What I'm looking to replace now is the DHR in the rear, I was never a huge fan, but I got used to it and it was acceptable. It's pretty worn now, so I noticed I've been losing traction on climbs a lot so I'm looking for something to replace it with. Maybe I'll give this Michelin shot!
I agree. The summers here are pretty brutal. (around 100+ deg F for most of it) The rest of the year it's not as dry and the dirt has at least a little bit of moisture in it. After riding on the DHF again this summer, I just couldn't do it anymore. My faith that the tire would hold my line and not wash out was just gone. I thought about trying the Assegai on both front and rear but, I also wanted to try something different all together. Several rides in and I'm still adjusting to how the Michelins ride and learning to trust them. I'm still happy with my decision to switch. I haven't ridden them in the wet yet but, I do have a few enduro races coming up and who knows what the weather will be like. It will certainly be another great way to see how they perform! Tried the wild enduros, didnt like them on whet roots and rocks. I like them in the dry to, very confidence conspiring. But for me the assegai is the best, if it gets soft and very wet/muddy i put a shorty on. You could also try the highroller or dhr as your front tyre, for rough shit the casing and feel of maxxis dd or dh is way better than the michelin. The New michelin dh22 is a fucking beast, there is a bike Park Edition (harder compound) out, its wire bead and tubeless ready. Great as a rear tyre for shredding rough. Got them for 22 Euro 👍

Got a Michelin rear tire, Wild AM 2.8 (like it very much) and my current front is a Vittoria Mazza 2 6(measures 2.4). The Mazza likes to step sideways at higher speeds Grrr. Think I'll try the Enduro Front.
I too am a fan of the Michelin Wild Enduro tyres, but have you given any thought to Maxxis Disector rear and an Assegai front? Rated pretty good for loose over hardpack and hardpack and very good for dry.
Same terrain here in NTX. Rocky, loose and often off camber and blown out. I've been running the Wild Enduro on the front for a bit now and it has earned it's place as one of my favorite tires of all time. Be it home, Sedona, or Angel Fire it's just got a cartoonish level of grip (in a good way). I run the Force AM on the rear just because the WE, as great as they are, are sllloooowwww. The Force AM is just easier to pedal for miles and miles and offers consistent, predictable grip. Not as "grip it and rip it" as a DHR or the Mazza I had on the back but it's not supposed to be.
You need to use the maxis, minion on the back and maxis assegai on front I wouldn’t doubt you were having grip issues if you were running double minions
Going from street bikes using dozens of tires (Perelli, Conti, Dunlop, Bridgestone) hands down Michelin is just the best. Then going to dirt bikes.. Again Michelin is very good. Not sure on Mountain bikes, but I think I know the potential results.
How do you like the Michelins after using it log term. I also live in Texas. Looking for the lose over hard trail tire. Do you like Michelins better than DHF and DHRs?
@@nycalien AWESOME! Yeah, they can be REALLY hard to find right now. I've had success at Amazon and Chain Reaction Cycles. I am currently running Magi-X up front and Gum-X in the rear. However, I just moved to a completely different part of the country (Tennessee) so, I may switch to the Gum-X in the front depending on the terrain here. I haven't had a chance to ride the trails here yet but, stay tuned!

Put that DHR ii in the front. It has a better transition zone when cornering. You won't get that slide out feeling. Try an aggressor, dissector or another DHR in the back.
Good to run across this video. Tire reviews on the web are definitely not Central Texas specific. I have High Roller IIs and I just can't get a bite climbing uphill like I want. I'm considering Michelin or Aggressor back and DHR front. I'm a heavy rider at 220lbs dry, ex gym rat and can put power down. Anyone have a recommendation for tire set up? I also run Cush Core.
I also weigh 215 and can put some power down. I’ve been running dhr 2 front and aggressor back and can’t say enough good things about this setup for the hill country/rocky area.
I don't feel like they are. If anything, I feel faster on them. With the Minions, I regularly had to check my speed before or sometimes in the middle of a corner to prevent a washout. I don't notice additional effort when just pedaling them.

I loved them I had 27.5x2.8 on my Roscoe now I’m back on maxxis trying out different combos have an aggressor on the back and DHF on the front

Michelin are the best. I used them a lot in the dessert in Mexico and never had a problem. Fyi there are cactus everywhere.

I am now on my second set of the Michelins and I absolutely LOVE them! I don't (willingly) see myself ever going back to the DHF/DHR again.

DHF are too open in channels , I don't like that on/off feeling. Much prefer DH34 or Magic Mary .
