  • Hadley and Oliver begin to fall in love on their flight from New York to London, but accidentally lose each other at customs. The probability of ever finding one another again seems impossible, but fate may have a way of defying the odds. Haley Lu Richardson and Ben Hardy star in the Netflix romantic movie Love at First Sight. The storytelling is familiar, but does it work? Thanks for checking out my Love at First Sight (2023) Netflix Movie Review!

You got it right. I would just add that this is the most family and commitment affirming movie I've seen in a long time. If Netflix hired John Bunyan to write a romcom for the millennials and gen Z'ers, this is what you would get. There is enough humor to make the characters relatable and likeable, but the film is not really going for laughs. Every character is kind. All characters treat each other with affection and respect. Almost every action in the film is other-regarding. John Bunyan would recognize it: this is about walking the straight and narrow path, navigating the banana peel complications along the way. Hadley and Oliver end up as they do because they both live by the same code. Huge surprise coming from Netflix.

Good review mate, perhaps the only thing I don't really agree on is your comments on the edit and cinema photography, it's a really pretty movie in my opinion. It gives that December energy and cutting flow makes sense and works decently. But some of the early shots in the movie really are beautiful x

Was so pleased with your review!
I haven’t read movie reviews for many years, and I admit this is the first time I have read your name, as well as your reviews!
    I enjoyed everything you said!
Only thing I disagreed with is that I did not “see” the physical resemblance between Hadley and Oliver! (Wasn’t there for me!)
Thanks for your remarkable and descriptive review! Very enjoyable and spot on!
I look forward to reading more of your reviews from now on! 😊

This movie ruined my day as i sat down with my mother who has to go through chemo therapy pretty soon. Yeah we all know that we can not avoid the topic of cancer and it should not be silenced away but at least a triggerwarning could have helped… movie in general is good. But as we watched the movie it got anoying how often it was spoken of, that olivers mums gonna die. It was not at all important for the story itself. It was more like „uh, how do we get this movie more sad so people start crying“
I’m sorry, I’m super angry with Netflix and the makers.

Zoey Deutch? From the nose up. Haley Lu seems to do the "quirky nerdy girl" getting attention for the first time very well. White Lotus was good place for her, being it was already a very surreal dark dark comedy. As for Rom-Com; I am just too used to a little more on the genetics. In this one, the boy is completely carrying the charm. It took me 3 views to get past the first 10 minutes. The airport scene is just way too over the top dialog. They jumped the shark with all those power one-liners. Sorry, people just aren't that clever. Just a slice of it here for example -
I was gonna go get some food. Do you wanna come with? Is that, like, a third date thing for you?
What are you researching? The percentage of Americans who miss their flights.
It goes on and on like that between 2 strangers, and in a big airport when one of them is losing her flight and her phone battery is dying. Later, the phone will get smashed on the ground within seconds of an important usage by somebody trying to get across the globe.
I guess typical of rom-com, not to even ask for viewer investment in the story line. But thumbs down.
