    I'm so glad that you posted this video. It has helped me a great deal as I have 2 orphaned Racing Homers and had to start raising them by hand and they are healthy and growing and thriving. I just wish there were a way to put something in the nest to comfort them better.

    Thanks l’onda for this video. i wasn’t sure my 9 days old rescue pigeons could eat a pigeon seed mix yet and in which size, gave it to them today after seeing your video and they loved it, didn’t get as much air in their crops as they would with semi-liquid formula and they felt full much faster. Bless your heart!

      I use the baby chick food from walmart, and grind put a lot of eater to mix it so its like porridge and feed them withy finger till they can eat them self than I give them small bird seed, move to a cage.I plan to let them fly free nut, I am waiting till the weather is warmer at night, so they are not freezing out side and starfing because they used to have food all this time.

    thanks for additional info. my vet (not extreme pro avian expertise) advice too little food and i suspected it wasn't enough so i thicken the oatmeal (3rd feeding since rescue). but i did learn to check the crop. but i believe it is old enough (7+days) to eat seeds so i'll be getting a bag at least.

  • @SuperManning11
    @SuperManning11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you so, so much. Since I was a kid I’ve always shied away from attempting to rescue baby birds because they always die and it hurts my soul. Four days ago my dog found a little mourning dove chick on my patio. Not sure how many days old he is, but he barely has little pin feathers and fits completely in the palm of my hand, so I’m guessing no more than a week old, if that. I searched and searched for the nest but was unsuccessful. Then several hours later another little guy just appeared in the exact same spot, and again I searched unsuccessfully for the nest. We have Cooper’s hawks here and doves seem to be at the top of their list of birds on their menu, so it’s possible something happened to their mama. Regardless, I had two babies on my hand that needed attention, so I decided to give it a go on feeding them, thinking that it would entail giving them a bowl of water and throwing some seeds in with them and hoping for the best.
    When I first watched this video I was fascinated but thought I could never do this. But now with two very hungry chicks I simply had no choice. I scrabbled to get the right food and utensils and then with great care and no small amount of trepidation, I just went for it. The first two feedings were a bit clumsy for the birds and for me, but the job got done.
    I am SO happy to report that both birds are doing well and I am still shocked at the fact that I am able to syringe feed them with no problem. The first time was indeed very scary-I just didn’t want to hurt these tiny creatures in any way. But now all three of us are used to the routine. I have so much more confidence in myself and the little ones don’t struggle at all when I pick them up because they know a warm meal is on the way! Now I need to figure out when to switch to the bag of grains. I’m hoping they will show me when it’s the right time. They are growing so rapidly so my guess is that it will be soon.
    This means so much to me, and I cannot thank you enough for having posted this video as a reference for me to know what to do.
    I am determined to get these guys to fledge, with the hope they will stick around and make nests of their own one day, bringing generations of joy to my home and garden.
    I’m writing this long comment with the hope that others who may be reticent to even try such a rescue will be motivated to give it a go. The reward for success is certainly worth it!

    I have 2 baby pegeon tjat only 2 days old, abandon almost death and I raise them to be my pet. I just feef them with my finger with the baby chicken food from Walmart, I mix with water and feed them with my finger 2x aday, they grow so rapidly and I pur a lamp to keep th warm in the room and put old towel and put paper towel on top so I van change every day with the clean one, now they are adult pegeon ang star mating to each other, but it still cold winter time, and I just let them fly around the house about two to three hours every evening time to night time, and they go to bed in their cage, the also like to take a warm bath in a big bowl that I put on my counter top so the can enjoy soak them self in that bowl, its fun to see them every day, we are in California high desert area.
