Thanks Handsome I use your methodology with Crystal Light very good. quick question do any of the other variables in Quad views companion have any effect i.e.% foviate region ect on crystal light or are these just for OG Crystal ?
Works just the same for the. Crystal Light. The only difference is that the PCL doesn't have eye-tracking, so foveate region doesn't follow your gaze around..
So I presume if the Open XR is enabled in Pimax Play that you can then access the menus in game with ctrl-F2. My Crystal Light is in the mail, and I am very happy with how the Pimax software seems to be progressing.
Just to make sure you're not confusing the two, OpenXR is a VR standard, OpenXR Toolkit provides that Ctrl-F2 menu and the extra layers on top of OpenXR. You don't need OpenXR Toolkit to use OpenXR, it's just an add-on with some extra stuff. I'm really hoping that Pimax start to integrate some of that stuff that OpenXR Toolkit provides directly in to Pimax Play, such as Dynamic Foveated Rendering so that we can just do away with OpenXR Toolkit (which is no longer supported by it's developer and will eventually break at some point).
I tried turning off all the external tools and just going with the Pimax Play Dynamic Foveated Rendering (Balanced), ticking Pimax, Eye Tracking in DCS and everything worked fine, except I noticed that I had approximately 20ms of CPU frame time that didn't exist before. I've now gone back to using the external OpenXR ToolKit, Pimax XR Runtime and QVCA and it's back to normal. I read on the forums that Pimax are aware of this issue as someone who plays iRacing at 120Hz brought this to their attention apparently. Although I don't know for sure.
@British_Dragon-4K-Simulations Yes there appears to be a CPU latency issue with the latest Pimax Play. Hopefully, this will be fixed in the next release. It reminds me of the ED tango: two steps forward, one step back.
Is there a guide on how to uninstall the previous configuration of all of this to transition to the new built in settings in Pimax Play? I'm having trouble getting this to run properly and I think it's because of the old installation of OpenXR Toolkit Companion, PimaxXR Control Center and QuadViews Companion.
Hello, I have the original Pimax Crystal and installed the new Pimax Play v1.34.02.01. Unfortunately I can't switch to Pimax OpenXR as OpenXR runtime. Does this only work with the Crystal Light? Thanks...
@kellymcguire4970 This basically replaces PimaxXR. However, if you want to continue using QuadViews Companion, then remember to reinstall QuadViews Foveated -.and uncheck DCS in OpenXR Toolkit.
I have switched to Quad Views via Pimax Play but the quality is way worse even on Quality then it was with my settings via Quad Views Companion App. Unfortunately the Quad Views Companion App settings don´t seem to effect the settings of Quad Views when I run it via Pimax Play. Other then mentioned in the video. Or am I missing something?
I installed the beta version of Pimax Play and then uninstalled PimaxXR Control Center. In FS2020 using TAA, my FPS dropped from 31 to 21 in VR with the Pimax 8KX. I then reinstalled PimaxXR Control Center and started using that again, and without doing anything else, my FPS returned to 31. I'm not sure what's going on here, but the native version of OpenXR in Pimax Play doesn't seem to be ready for primetime!
@@tallymouse I started a new thread on the pimaxplay-beta Discord server to report the issue, but it seems to have been promptly removed! I wonder what I did wrong...

@outspoken78 The 90Hz Upscale option was in 1.28 - it didn't work for some people, apparently, so they're going to work on it and put it back in a later Pimax Play. The OG Crystal should get 90Hz upscale too by end-of-year. Remember to install Pimax Play (then reboot), OpenXR Toolkit, Quadviews Foveated, then QuadViews Companion, in that order.

I installed 1.32 and switching quadviews on and off in pimax play does nothing. Still seems to be controlled by OpenXR
@@expataviator7107 reinstall quadviews..
Hello, I have the original Pimax Crystal and installed the new Pimax Play v1.34.02.01. Unfortunately I can't switch to Pimax OpenXR as OpenXR runtime. Does this only work with the Crystal Light? Thanks...
@@OldCooltronix it works with the OG Crystal too - try rebooting! Also, check out my video on OpenXR Layers!
@@tallymouse Thanks for your answer. I'll keep testing...
So, do I need to uninstall the other software now for PimaxVR and Quadviews that we had to use before since it's native in Pimax and DCS?
@kellymcguire4970 This basically replaces PimaxXR. However, if you want to continue using QuadViews Companion, then remember to reinstall QuadViews Foveated -.and uncheck DCS in OpenXR Toolkit.
@tallymouse Would I use quadviews companion to change specific settings or can I now change the same settings in DCS?
I hope that when this is fully completed theyll be able to add the amalence software too
Almalence was great, in my opinion - though, something must have gone wrong with the negotiations, because things seem to have gone quiet..
Reinstall QuadViews Foveated, reboot, and then you'll find the the Companion app works again!
Yep - just keep those bug reports coming into the Discord server beta channel.. the devs need as much feedback as possible..
@@tallymouse I was going to contact Pimax directly via a their ticket system. I guess the Discord server is a better way to do this?
@@MikeInExile Yes - that way it'll be collated with other issues and make it directly to the dev team.
@@tallymouse I started a new thread on the pimaxplay-beta Discord server to report the issue, but it seems to have been promptly removed! I wonder what I did wrong...
@@MikeInExile Let me find out the correct reporting method and get back to you!
I wish we could also get a mirror for recording
@@wesleyjansen232 Have you tried OpenXR Mirror in OBS Studio?
@@tallymouse i did but without opening steamvr i only get black screen
@wesleyjansen232 What happens if you use PimaxXR as the runtime?
Also.. check out my "Fix OpenXR Layers" vid.. that may be your problem!
Thanks!
This is positive news. What I really need to know is whether it’s worth upsetting my current stable set up with Pimax XR to take advantage of this. Are there any benefits to an MSFS user of switching until PimaxXR goes wrong?
@johnbarnes7421 I don't see a great benefit of switching right now - however, it's comforting to know that it is being worked on!
Can you still use the in-game OpenXR Toolkit to enable for example Turbo Mode or change the resolution?
@@bubba3133 Yes - OpenXR Toolkit still works!
Signed up for beta but nothing yet, do they typically send an email?
@markm75 Yes. There's a big festival.at the moment in Shanghai, mixed up with the biggest Typhoon in 75 years!
so do we still need the toolkit app? i understand from this video we do not need the openxr app but we do still need the toolkit
@josemalbran2815 You don't technically need the Toolkit for DCS, but I keep it installed for MSFS, so I can still use the toolkit's eye-tracking/DFR
@@tallymouse thanks im on the LIGHT, so no eye tracking. Im only using the toolkit for the boost setting. I dont change anything else, i use the smooth option on the pymax play option, cant wait for your guide for the light, because i have no idea what to do
I would assume that this would work withy an OpenXR application or is it specific to flight sims?
@@justaguydoinstuff Any OpenXR application
ok...I'm frustrated. I installed 1.32 beta and turned on OpenXR in the Pimax Play Client. I'm not seeing these settings. Also not seeing 90hz Upscaling option either. I'm running a AMD 6800xt. Is there anything I'm missing?
@outspoken78 The 90Hz Upscale option was in 1.28 - it didn't work for some people, apparently, so they're going to work on it and put it back in a later Pimax Play. The OG Crystal should get 90Hz upscale too by end-of-year.
Remember to install Pimax Play (then reboot), OpenXR Toolkit, Quadviews Foveated, then QuadViews Companion, in that order.
@@tallymouse hi is this official confirmed with the OG Crystal? I bought the crystal because of eye tracking and was a bit upset when the crystal light was announced with the upscale function. thanks!
I like the FOV of the Pimax, but I can't tear myself away from my Reverb. I also found that for me, OpenXR does not perform as well as Steam VR on my 3080ti/11700k/64gb system in some sims like BMS and XP12. However, it does do better on others like DCS and iRacing. And here's a comment for the algorithm.
@@DerekSpeareDSD It's interesting how some systems seem to prefer OpenVR and others OpenXR. Evidently, there is a lot of variation between peoples' systems, but I've never truly got to the bottom of why SteamVR works better on one person's system and OpenXR better on another...
At last ! I'm not alone !!! In both MSFS and DCS, I use SteamVR to handle OpenXR and it runs much better than when WMR is handling OpenXR. When I say much better, it's faster, and absolutely stutter free !
If you already have Open XR, Pimax XR and Quad Views installed as applications is it better to delete them and run via Pimax Play?
@@Lakedistrictrider i still have them installed as a backup, so I can swap between them - just like swapping between PimaxXR and SteamVR
@@tallymouseCheers
So how does this affect/improve what I’m doing now with PimaxXR and Quadviews?
@laycamwd238 It means that PimaxXR isn't strictly needed any longer, and that somebody (Pimax) is supporting OpenXR into the future..
wow
@@boblatouche2273 Disbelief or happiness? 😂
@@tallymouse awesome
I take it that X-Plane 12 does not support this?
@melvilib Unfortunately, XP12 doesn't support OpenXR natively yet, but I think you can use OpenComposite as a work-around. Note that OpenXR function is up to the sim devs to implement.
@@tallymouse Think I have misunderstood the 'Use OpenXR' tickbox on the VR settings tab. I assume that is using an external runtime then?
@@melvilib Oh.. yes.. I have been using OpenComposite to divert away from OpenVR (SteamVR) .. I should look into the OpenXR button in XP12.. I must have missed this 😂

Any news will Msfs2024 support quad views?
I know a number of people who have been pushing for this on MSFS'S dev forums - and it wouldn't take a great deal of work either.. so fingers crossed.. however, it would make MSFS VR come alive!
I subscribed. However, I feel uncomfortable being called your wingman. I believe, you may be my wingman. I'm good. I'm very good.
@StekuVideo 😂.. ok ice man, cool your heels!
@@tallymouse Does integrated OpenXR offer any benefits (FPS?) other than less complexity for the beginners? And you are not 100% correct regarding Steam: It supports both OpenVR and OpenXR via SteamVR OpenXR runtime.
