Once again you've filled the enormous gap between Pimax and their terrible customer support.
I've had issues recently. I currently have an issue I can't seem to get around. In DCS next to the *use Quad Views I have an amber triangle with an ! in it.
Until recently everything worked great following your setup guide from a year ago. Given this latest update which applications do I need to uninstall? There seems to be some conflicting software. Using quad views to check if eye tracking is working it appears it isn't. DCS is also running poorly when it used to be perfectly smooth.
Your thoughts are appreciated and your work is the only reason Pimax is usable for an average gamer such as myself.
    Thank you

Thank you sir, for your generous gift!
I found the best current setup in DCS to be as follows:
Pimax Play: Make Pimax Play OpenXR the default OpenXR runtime.
      Uncheck "QuadViews" in Pimax Play.
      Install mbucchia's QuadViews Foveated.
In OpenXR Toolkit (if installed) uncheck DCS
Install TallyMouse's (handsome devil, I have heard) QuadViews Companion and open it, change something and click Apply.
In DCS's VR tab, check use Quadviews and "eye track use the, comrade"
Ensure that lens effects and bloom are disabled in DCS.
If you are still having issues, you can always revert to PimaxXR as the default OpenXR runtime to see if that fixes it.
I haven't been able to get rid of the yellow warning symbol next to QuadViews in DCS since the latest update.
Another thing to look at is your OpenXR Layers to ensure that there isn't an odd conflict.. please watch th-cam.com/video/K5zHRtHrOCc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mEiOrVJUtZcR_7S0

@tallymouse THAT FIXED IT! Well sort of. At least it fixed the Foveated rendering. I can see the eye tracking is working fine but now DCS just hangs the moment I hit "fly now". DCS doesn't crash, everything thing just goes black, no matter which mission I choose.
UPDATE: If I uncheck "use quadviews" in DCS the missions launch. But the foveated rendering doesn't work. Thought?
Thank you very much. You videos are the but l bridge that make the Pimax products useable for the average consumer. Pimax, if you're reading this. Just save yourself a ton of effort and hire this guy full time!

Also - the latest patch for DCS caused me issues - it turned out that it required updated redistributables. I've only recently done a "nuke the site from orbit" reinstall of my OS drive, and hadn't got around to reinstalling MS Visual Studio yet. The latest DCS patch was causing a crash upon startup that wouldn't fix until I updated the latest C/C++ redistributables:

Not all plain sailing, I’m afraid. I find that the mbucchia QVFR software looks better and runs more fluidly. But the showstopper for me was trying get XRNS centred in DCS, i eventually got it working but TBH it required a lot of faff to get there every time I started up my PC. I went back to Pimax XR and unticked the quad views box in Pimax play. XRNS now functions properly. I realise at some point the mbucchia standalone stuff will start to develop issues, but for now it works. Great to see Pimax are incorporating XR and QVFR within Pimax Play and it is, undoubtedly, the way forward. Pimax need a function in Pimax Play similar to the one in the mbucchia XR interface that centres the view on start up and of course the TM QV companion app to fine tune the QV set up. 👍🏻

So, the new version of PimaxPlay can just be downloaded now and I've tried it (in DCS).
First: if you change to Pimax OpenXR + Pimax QuadViews, the old QuadViews settings are no longer used (and thus QV Companion no longer works).
Easy to tell: just enable debug_eye_gaze in the settings and make sure to either uninstall the old QuadViews OR disable the OpenXR-Layer in the registry (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Khronos\OpenXR\1\AvailableRuntimes).
Now, if the eye gaze cannot be seen ingame, but there it's still washed out in your peripheral vision, you know that you're running Pimax-QuadViews.
Second, I did some benchmarks, there is one caveat though: the Pimax setting "Grade = Quality" is lower quality then my settings and that means for me, I'm still gonna use the old QuadViews until we can set details like the size of the focus section and the quality in- and outside of that area.
(min/avg/max) - this is a CPU bound track unfortunately
    2D: 42 / 79 / 109
    SteamVR: 31 / 38 / 46
    PimaxXR + old QV: 26 / 46 / 60
    Pimax OpenXR + QV: 31 / 53 / 61
FINALLY, Pimax includes their own OpenXR runtime plus QuadViews! Good job!!!
Pro: it's easy and painless and works
Con: it doesn't allow for detailed DFR settings and there is no performance overlay, like with the OXR-Toolkit. But hopefully, that will all come in future versions of PimaxPlay (right? o_O)

Same when I open MSFS the cockpit keeps shifting around all by itself. • @tallymouse
      @tallymouse  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Firstly, the Pimax Discord is a very useful resource, as it's filled with people who've probably had many of your issues and solved them:
      discord.gg/3CMCvFCc
Note that when they removed the XR2 chip from the OG Crystal to create the PCL, the processing for the inside-out tracking on the headset had to move to the computer instead. This means that, in VR, Pimax Play is running in the background.
If you have HAGS enabled (google Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling) enabled in Windows, then this could be pushing the process that deals with inside-out tracking into the background, and that can cause issues. So play with that by toggling it on and off to see what works best.
Also, ensure that your room is well lit, and that you don't have a plethora of giant monitors in front of you. Remember that the inside-out tracking relies on making visual fixes in front of you, so if it's view is mostly comprised of a moving image, it'll create havok within the tracking system...
You can always print out some random QR codes (anyone will do) onto white paper and place them either side of your monitor.. this will help the cameras have an unusual pattern to lock onto.

Just to make sure you're not confusing the two, OpenXR is a VR standard, OpenXR Toolkit provides that Ctrl-F2 menu and the extra layers on top of OpenXR. You don't need OpenXR Toolkit to use OpenXR, it's just an add-on with some extra stuff. I'm really hoping that Pimax start to integrate some of that stuff that OpenXR Toolkit provides directly in to Pimax Play, such as Dynamic Foveated Rendering so that we can just do away with OpenXR Toolkit (which is no longer supported by it's developer and will eventually break at some point).

This is positive news. What I really need to know is whether it’s worth upsetting my current stable set up with Pimax XR to take advantage of this. Are there any benefits to an MSFS user of switching until PimaxXR goes wrong?

ok...I'm frustrated. I installed 1.32 beta and turned on OpenXR in the Pimax Play Client. I'm not seeing these settings. Also not seeing 90hz Upscaling option either. I'm running a AMD 6800xt. Is there anything I'm missing?

    • @tallymouse
      @tallymouse  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@outspoken78 The 90Hz Upscale option was in 1.28 - it didn't work for some people, apparently, so they're going to work on it and put it back in a later Pimax Play. The OG Crystal should get 90Hz upscale too by end-of-year.
Remember to install Pimax Play (then reboot), OpenXR Toolkit, Quadviews Foveated, then QuadViews Companion, in that order.

I like the FOV of the Pimax, but I can't tear myself away from my Reverb. I also found that for me, OpenXR does not perform as well as Steam VR on my 3080ti/11700k/64gb system in some sims like BMS and XP12. However, it does do better on others like DCS and iRacing. And here's a comment for the algorithm.

@@DerekSpeareDSD It's interesting how some systems seem to prefer OpenVR and others OpenXR. Evidently, there is a lot of variation between peoples' systems, but I've never truly got to the bottom of why SteamVR works better on one person's system and OpenXR better on another...

At last ! I'm not alone !!! In both MSFS and DCS, I use SteamVR to handle OpenXR and it runs much better than when WMR is handling OpenXR. When I say much better, it's faster, and absolutely stutter free !
