Thanks for this video, very inspiring. Love watching north koreans for their disciplined technique. They're the antithesis of starfish stanced power cleans.
North Koreans are absolutely crazily fast compared to the Chinese. They seem to have very different lifting philosophies overall, Chinese seem to lift slower but smoother with a lot more strength reserve, whereas North Koreans don't seem to put up giant squat numbers/etc in the training hall, but are just crazily fast under the bar and in general.
Glad to see these girls smiling- certainly they live a better life than the majority of their countrymen. I cannot imagine the pressure they must feel to succeed.
Charles Staley i think they are happy to be there to represent them as a lifters on the world competition. Anyway they are too proud to complain, anybody does his own business.
bunnyswallows that's a good guess. you know why? because its very accurate. not only that, when they go back they spend one month in a camp to "reinstill" NK values and love for the dear leader in them. basically they threaten them with the terrible death they have if they speak a word of what the outside world looks like. these athletes maybe the only ones who know that NK isnt the greatest place on earth.
Charles Staley I do not think they are smiling simply because they lead a happier life. Rather, it reflects more of their positive and cheerful attitude (and maybe it is just plain innocence or shyness), and how they must love this sport. Wrt to pressure, I am sure every participating lifter feels a certain internal and external pressure to do well. These are just normal folks representing their country. It may be unintentional, but I hope you do not bring in stereotypes when viewing sports and athletes of another nation.
Rationalthought83 no, this one is. it's bad. i mean you already know how russia was under extreme communism, with a psychopath leader. now imagine 3 generations of psychopaths who think they are gods. and imagine a people with no knowledge or a chance of a glimpse at the outside world.
They're Asics TOW 727, only made and sold in Japan. Average Broz imports them to USA but they are expensive ($329 US, plus shipping). You can order them from Japan on Rakuten where it's a bit cheaper but all the stores there are usually out of stock. They are also only made up to size 28 which is about size 10 or 10.5 US. You can order custom made larger ones with all kinds of leather and colour options but they're like $600.
Anyone know why the girl doing pulls around 14:40, pulls up with her arms after dropping the bar? Is it to simply finish the second pull, or another reason? Curious.
+Beaver489 Watching her do this improved my technique greatly(over the last two mo.). Try to pull your arms/wrists in the same motion that she moves in during a real snatch/clean. You will try to move in this way, but your hands are hook gripped in. It forces you to point your elbows out; the 3rd and 4th pull will be stronger. At least it has for me. She brings her hands up and in as a completion of the engram. I've seen this vid many times now, and just noticed what she doe with her head and neck during the concentric portion of the squat.
any good material like nylon or leather will do, Mark Rippotoe covered it on Starting Strength the book, and his barbell shrug video on youtube on how to use it.
The lady at the start with the smart tracksuit top, she moves so well! so smooth.
03:54 almost like putting a mirror next to one athlete
Synchronize lifting gonna be a thing in the olympics
why are the koreans always the ones doing this barbell ninja shit! its cool as fuck!

They also probably have less resources than the Chinese.

Charles Staley yeah, maybe the goverment holds their families as hostages or threaten to hurt the, if the athletes doesn't come back to north korea.

That Mobility!
Same clothes, shoes, height, build, haircut, obviously similar facial features. It’s like they just clone super athletes
14.50 I have never seen straps like that before. Looks like 2 thin strips. Does anyone know are they leather or otherwise ?
