- 2001 Dodge Dakota - No Brake Lights - No Turn Signal or 4 Way
About 2 weeks ago, the 4-way hazard flashers and the turn signal front and back all stopped working. One week later they all started working again. 1 week later, they stopped working and the brake lights would not illuminate as well. This video shows the troubleshooting steps and what was found to be failing. The lighting on the actual failing module is very low but it is unmistakable under the dash between the emergency brake and the brake pedal.
The picture for the video thumbnail is a photo of the module.
Thank you so much for this video. I did everything you did and it came to that last part near the break pedal. I took it to O'Reilly's Auto and a great guy there found a replacement part gave me a great discount and even installed it for me. Sure enuf hazard, brake and turn signals back on. Only think it doesn't show there on on my dash board. But thanks for another day. Thank you again for saving me a whole lotta money.
Please what is the name of the part?
What was the part called you replaced?!?
?
Part name please
Pro Tip: You can test the fuses while they are still plugged in by touching the exposed "dots" of metal on either side of the fuse rating ("10" in this case). Saves you from having to pull each and every fuse.

Thanks for your video. My problem is about like yours: turn signals ok but hazards fouled up. My 2001 Dodge Dakota has the combination flasher just like yours, kinda right above where the computer plug is for troubleshooting/data access; it makes a clicking noise when the turn signals are on. After watching several videos decided to troubleshoot the multifunctional switch on the left side of the steering wheel. According to the Haynes Repair manual I am missing continuity to the pins needed for the hazards to work. So am off to buy junkyard/O'reilly/Advance Auto.
I have a 2001 ram 1500 last night the main brake lights and blinkers quit working. The third brake light up on the cab did not stop working. All the fuse is good all the bulbs good then I watched your video. I tapped on that little white multiswitch or whatever it is. It's located above the driver side kick panel on this truck. Brake lights and blinkers are working again.
😀👍
I wouldn't have known about that little white switch without your video. Thank you sir :-)
thanks to your video i just fixed mine spraying break cleaner into the switch and rocking it back and forth. i guess it was corroded
What is that part called? I have replaced the multi function switch (turn signal) and blinker relay. Hoping that will solve my problem
Hey I just wanted to thank you for the video. I know just enough about wiring to be dangerous lol and have drove myself crazy for 2
Days arguing with everyone lol anyway you saved my sanity thanks again
Thanks for the great video it helped me fix my turning signal I found the same issue you have with your car
What did you do to fix it and what is the part called you replaced?
Thanks for the video. I’m having issues with my 94. I’ll give it a try.
PUT SOME LIGHT ON WHAT YOUR DOING
Hey boss. I got an 03 Dakota. Wire Harness was on Exhaust so i repaired it but i still dont have directionals and my 4 way indicator has to be switched on in order for my brake lights to activate
Did you ever get a replacement part
I have both tail lights working but driver side brake light and turn signal isn’t working.. checked the bulb and fuses and everything seems fine.. any idea what could be my issue?
I've got a 01 Dodge 3500 Fully having same issues that your having yet to find the problem, I've changed the turn signal, 4way switch, wiper switch that didn't fix it, I've replaced the brake switch, all fuses and the 4 way turn signal relay still nothing, I've even went back to the wires and pulled the plus and cleaned them all and nothing, I've got driving lights and running only any ideas?
That is not a module. It is the head of a multipin connector that passes through the firewall. If you have to replace it, you won't find it at the autoparts store and you're looking at a difficult repair.
Any chance u know where I can find that piece
My brother has replaced this switch, I checked all of the fuses that had anything to do with lamps. One question, should the light over the rear window of the cab light up too, third brake light? No show on any brake lights, taillights work and blinkers work. We're stumped.
unbelievable how you can post a video and then find the fault but not shine a light up there to illuminate the component at fault 16 min???
Yep, I needed to see that too and can't. Useless.
I think it has to do with the stock alarm . Mine is doing it also . I have a 1999
I have the same problem...What did you do to fix this?
My cluster lights up with blinker etc. But the lights do not.
I've been going old school and arm or the window to signal.
So was that the problem and what's it called?
Has anyone had the Multifunctional Turn Signal*Dimmer Switch*Window Wiper cause problems with Headlights?? I have Headlights, they just WON'T stay on without me holding the Multifunctional Arm back towards Steering Wheel! This makes for difficult*Unsafe driving at night!! I'm thinking it's a Relay in Steering Column, possibly a Loose Screw??
HELP!!! Have a 2001 Dodge Dakota. I have no dash lights or tail lights. Have checked fuse and relay, both ok. Please advise
Anybody find out what that piece is called??? ???
where would you THINK THE EMER. FLASHER BE IN A 1994 RAM 1500 ????????????????
Any chance somebody has the link to the part
You do realize that you dont need to remove fuses to check them if you have a multi meter like the one in the video.
I hope just wiggling it around will help me. I just don’t have any brake lights everything else is good
BIKELIFE_ FRANK610 what did it end up being
I need help!!!! I have an 01 Dodge Dakota.. rewired the rear end last night... Now everything works besides the break lights... I've replaced all bulbs all fuses and break switch.. what's next? I'm lost lol
Shouldn't i be able to get them from the two wires inside of the brake switch
My 1990 Dodge Dakota brake lights tail lights turn signals dash board lights, low and high beams work only
Kyra Patrick what did you do to fix your problem I'm having the same thing go wrong with mine
opposite for me. low beams don't work but everything else does. fuses are good. cables are great. new bulbs. new headlight switch and lever. still nothing
Mines does same thing, try putting steering wheel all the way up
I have no brake lights I have turn signal but no brake lights I have running lights but no brake light install new brake light switch
I have hazards to
