    Every Maria McKee fan always wonders why she's not "famous" and why nobody knows who she is anymore, but I don't think the music audiences of today would be able to handle anyone like her. She had this rare combination of sweetness and fiery intensity that you don't see in today's female artists. Plus, she had this amazing stage presence with her Telecaster and floral dresses (an odd combination, but it totally worked for her). She was an original, unlike these American Idol types we see now.

      The story of Lone Justice and Geffin records is a cautionary tale for musicians.

      She’d be very popular on the indie scene today. I could see her having similar popularity to great bands like The Regrettes.

      I saw so many shows in the late 80s early 90s. What a blessing to be 20 feet from the stage of these amazing artists. Their music filled my soul; her voice was electrifying.

    Simply awesome, Maria was a class act, cruelly underated.

    Their debut album is one of my all time favorites. Saw them in Norman Oklahoma opening for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

      Agree with everything you said about Maria. I feel very much the same about her music. Listening to her somehow has an almost hypnotic, trance-like effect on me. Very emotionally soul stirring. Always leaves me stunned and with a lump in my throat, especially "Show Me Heaven".

    Actually, Lone Justice got plenty of airplay on MTV and various music video shows in the '80s. Plus, even before their first album came out, they got plenty of press as the band that every label wanted to sign and the Next Big Thing. I remember reading about them and seeing them on TV way before I heard them on the radio, so they were well promoted. Plus, they got to open for U2 on two tours. It's just that most people were not ready for this kind of cowpunk/alt-country music.

    What if back then they put more emphasis on what a bad ass live band they were. I saw them open for U2 in 1985 and I was blown away.

    Happy days. Recall seeing them at the famous, Marquee Club in London, when the great Cyndi Lauper came on to do a duet, with Maria. Don't Toss Us Away, if I remember correctly. What a set of lungs those two had. Breathtaking !

    Maria Mckee has been and will continue to be one of my top 3 female rock vocalists. The other 2 are Ann Wilson of Heart and a country girl by the name of Gretchen Wilson, who is an associate/friend of Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart. She does amazing covers of Barracuda, Look up 2007 mtv Honors, where Gretchen sang with Alice in chains , Nancy made a guest appearance on guitar, she also, meaning Gretchen does great covers of many rock songs including wild side by motley crue, hot blooded and her strut just to name a few

    Perhaps if they didn't have the music industry behind their every step desperately trying to make them "happen", they might have achieved more eventually.

    Lone Justice should have took off but the powers that be at MTV were not behind them. So much crap came out and was promoted during this great music era, they should have been mega stars!

  • @ZoeyPaigeLunaPhD
    @ZoeyPaigeLunaPhD 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is actually better than the studio version with the backup vocals (which I wouldn’t have believed the song would be better without those background singers. But now in hindsight, it made the song too busy).
    The producer really failed to capture this band on their debut

    I'm guessing this is 1985. A potential answer to Cyndi LAuper but it never happened for her. Buggered up by the Music business. But then heaven gave her a second chance.

    I bought their debut album. Honestly, the quality of the tracks was not consistent at all. They should have been kept out of the limelights at that early stage. But.... how could anyone hold back the best female vocalist of the eighties?
